  1. convoy to stealth rr day as suggested 8.15 at toddington services? then bang up the m1
  2. i would, his work bores me to death lol
  3. when you go back to the dealer/garage that did the orriginal work, ask them to show you the bill they got for having the head skimmed as they would have had to send it away to a specialist to be skimmed. as NO garage will have the facility to skim a head.if they can't show you that bill you can pretty much presume they never had it done. and as having the head skimmed is part of the work involved in having the head gasket replaced you can show the citizens advice bureau or trading standards that the garage did not do a satisfactory job.
  4. ugh garages! i used to go to a so called 'specialist' garage in st albans, i saw one of the mechanics getting stoned at lunch time then when i went to pick my car up he was standing on the cill of my car and swinging on the door!
  5. i'm now slightly worried about my head gasket being replaced, i couldn't choose where to get my head fitted as it is still under warranty and had to go to the dealers workshop. also slightly worrying is they had to go and buy special tools to do the job so obviousely they havn't done a vr head gasket before. is there any way of knowing if the head has been skimmed by them or do you just have to take their word for it?

  7. sounds like a plan( if i get my car back in time, after they fit the head gasket they'll find out it was the oil cooler all olong) ! lol
  8. lol i think you have the right idea justin! is there going to be a a little convoy action going t'up north????
  9. in think it will be the strangest sight Southam petrol station has seen, a long line of vr's waiting to use the the pressure hose! lol
  10. ah... that could be a problem then, i was hoping the ecu could be tweeked to adjust the idle?
  11. i had mine vag com'ed at stealth when it went into have the coilies done and it came back clear, someone suggested on e38 cleaning the breather pipe?
  12. i've put it down to s*** awful weather lol
  13. there is something that looks like fibreglass resin, on my car. only about 2" square, whats the best way to remove? tried white spirit, brush cleaner and picking! (lost most of my thumb nails) not much joy..... possibly soften with heat gun?
  14. ah i see... learn something new everyday, cheers i have a feeling after doing the head they will find out its the oil cooler
  15. i thought all vr's had an external oil cooler on the bottom front of the engine?
  16. its weird, they tested the head and said it was ok, oil temp never went above 104, pressure was at a constant 90(never went over) got no warning lights and it shifted like the shit off a shoval! now having looked at the oil and coolant they said the only thing that could cause such a mix would be the head !dodge but in my last vr the head was replaced(by the previous owner) because of the same symptoms and it turned out to be the oil cooler....
  17. would the knackered head have damaged anything else in the engine that i should look out for? also just out of curiosity, how much would a head gasket replacement cost at a garage?
  18. hey, it turns out after all that the oil in the coolant is a the head gasket being knackered, even after it was tested to be fine (how glad am i that its under warranty !!!) will the knackered head gasket have affected performance? will it come back quicker and sharper when its replaced?
  19. cheers guys, put my over worrying mind at rest!
  20. hi all, my idle is a bit high i think, idle at 900-950 rpm it starts at 1100 then drops to 900-950. also it will drive itself, in second gear if i take my foot off the accelerator peddle the car will continue to drive at the same speed! is it just cos the weather is cold at the moment?? :|
  21. personally i'd have it removed asap, it depends how much business you give them. i've had alot of refunds for kicking up a fuss inform them the coolant was pink when it went in and is now blue,if you supply the coolant i would expect them to do it for free. but its tricky if you don't specify things before any work is carried out,now i assume the garage wil do it wrong so i check and specify everything beforehand.
  22. ah, when you said 'a couple of months' i thought you would do my miles (about 200 per month), might be worth pm'ing Vinesh (mk1dubzter) on e38 mk3 forum aswell http://www.edition38.com
