ADVICE REQUIRED ABOUT GEARBOX
stockers replied to HIGHLINE VR6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
i just had the gear linkage adjusted on 2nd gear cos it was a bit crunchy and its smooth as silk now, i know 3rd gear synchro is prone to wear but if its occasional it sounds like an adjustment is all thats needed. -
mine didn't happen all the time either, now its like a new box....super smooth
-
hi all, after taking it up to my mechanic, it turns oout the oil was fine and all it needed was the gear linkage for 2nd gear adjusting slightly, so if anyone else has a bit of a crunch primarily on one gear only have this checked out, my bill was only £20 !!!!!!! cheers all
-
hi mate, yeah she has been very well behaved recently (touch wood) excelent threads thanks, think i'll go for the vw stuff as thats whats also recommended in the bentley manual
-
hhi all, has anyone topped up or changed their gearbox oil? i know vw don't specify changing the oil but my gearbox just feels a little 'un smooth' i guess and thought that maybe changing the oil would make it a little smoother, going into second can be a bit crunchy. not the best decription i know lol

hi all, my oil pressure light flashed twice tonight. started the car, let it warm up, drove off, braked at a roundabout after about 2 minutes of driving and the light flashed twice, the light went off and didnt come back on, then finished my five minute drive. the chains were done at 100k and the head gasket done at 90k. is it just a case of waiting to see if it comes on again or should i book it in for testing.....what test do they need to do? thanks in advance

Petrol smell for first five minutes.
stockers replied to Marky's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
you may not get a fuel smell if the lamda is fooked, mine was, had no fuel smell but was eating petrol like a bugger, getting 9 mpg! and loads of popping i had a fuel smell in my old one and it was knackered pipe at the fuel pump in the boot, might be worth having a sniff in there if you get someone else to start the car. -
can you remove and clean the lambda sensor thingy? or is it a new one if it goes? mine came up on a fault on vagcom what are the aftermarket ones like cheers
-
hi all, as title really, need to know what diameter the top radiator pipe is. thanks
-
i have either a black or a chrome one both mint, £7 inc p&p for either one, oh and the only bagde difference for a highline is the boot badge
-
mine mis-fired when 1 of the leads was knackered, although i dont know why yours would do this if it had been unused for 2 months, i guess the easiest way is get another set of leads on the bay ,or borrow a friends and test each one in turn, if youre near st albans get in touch as i have a some leads we can test yours with. adam

hi, do you mean the glass is moving when you push it? if yes, open the sunroof on 'full tilt' then you will see a black plastic guide cover, slide that back (its in a 'u' shape so you will need to unclip it on both sides, the glass is held in by 4 screws that you need a special size 25 star shaped allen key to undo, they hold the glass in position so it sounds like one or more has worked loose, it usually takes a couple of times to adjust it correctly, but when you see it close (from outside the car) it should pop back into position without catching anywhere. hope this helps mate.

stockers replied to a topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
ifyou try to start it (or ideally get someone else to start it lol)in the dark and see arching on the coilpack its knackered you can also spray a fine mist from a plant sprayer around it to see if it arks aswell -
odb2 Timing chain in the south. know anyone???
stockers replied to motormadj's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
i had mine done in St Albans by my usual mechanic, £680. My orriginal quote was for £580 but a couple of other bits needed replacing, it included new oil filter and oil change.and coolant change parts £222.30 labour £ 360.00 vat £ 101 Marsh Motors 01727 852018 ask for Dave -
almost certainly a lead problem, i had exactly the same problem missing between 800 - 1500, new leads cured it, it may just be a buggered end on one of them, bit labourious but just remove and replace each one individually then you will be able to pin point which connection is faulty.
-
lol, yeah you'll never be able to push them in by hand unless you have a similar physique to Geoff capes! As above though one bolt on the wing and one bolt on the bonnet, very easy mate.
-
very clean fella, just drop it a little and and it will look sweet.
-
yeah i did it, took about 2 hours, which is fairly quick but i mirror polished a set of 928 wheels so i got it down to a fine art.
-
cheers guys, mmmmm might you be selling one Justin?.......price?

after having the timing chains replaced a week or so ago, i have now pretty much finished the engine detailing. I think it ties in well with the rest of the car, quite standard but with a bit of bling. comments welcome. [mod edit resize pics] Moderator edit by: cadguy

hi all, i have just had my timing chains replaced, whether my new problem is related i don't know..... symptoms....lumpy and jerky on low revs (750-2000) accelerating, it isn't as bad if i'm applying the accelerator VERY slowly. Then a big bang from underneath the car, presumably a backfire. Slow return to idle after revving. I can't hear any whiring noises from the throttle body after disconnecting then reconnecting the battery (with an hour disconnected) it was fine when i first left the garage but started happening after i had parked up and set off again. i also now have a whoosh/whistle of
