  1. thanks mate, the £250 set it is then. Cheers Dave
  2. Guys and girls, I'm gonna order some suspension at the end of the month and want 40mm lowering thats a comfortable ride but still gives great handling at a good price. I quite like the look of the spax kits they do a vsx kit which is fixed damping for £250 or practically the same thing with adjustable damping i.e the psx kit for £350. My dilemma is is it worth the extra 100 quid for adjustable damping when you'll only probably ajust them once anyway ?? What do you reakon?? Have any of you got either of these kits? Dave
  3. mine is usually exactly the same as yours mate, i was having panic attacks about this recently aswell.
  4. mine does it some times aswell, but hey it still steers !!! is it actually causing you a problem??
  5. Ever since the Mk3 vr's came out i have been a huge fan, I was looking for a VR for ages and stumbled accross mine by accident one day at the local car yard, it had just been traded in and i had to have it, its a '97 dragon green got climatronic, sunroof, full recaro interior, i love my VR completly its reliable and i think that i got alot of car for the money good performance (however getting bit boring now). Due to my OCD condition my VR is really really clean. I've had it for nearly two years got a few thingys need doing to it but i don't think that i'll part with it for a long time. just g
  6. My VR is a obd2 and its on a p plate. It does move don't get me wrong and it is really clean and well looked after, it has regular oil changes and i only use super unleaded. I don't think there is any thing wrong with the ignition timing as she appears to be running perfectly, no smoking ect..... To be honest i've had it for 2 years and it has been trouble free motoring apart from a coked up throttle body which was soon rectified. I think that i'm gonna get it rolling road tested as you suggested just to be on the safe side. I was speaking to a friend of mine and he told me that they can now
  7. my VR is standard apart from K&N air filter. the mini was a cooper s it didn't completly leave me standing but it did win, it must have been one of the more powerful models. The ford couger completly left me standing, it was far quicker than the vr, i can only imagine given the info above that it had been given a blower or something. Do any of you guys know anything about putting a mk 4 12v head gasket on a mk3 to increase the compression ratio???? What gains can be expected from this mod???
  8. pulled up at the lights next to a new mini and had the usual drag race off the lights and i hate to say it left me standing, shit happens i suppose, i have also been smoked by a ford couger not sure what engine and also a pug 206 gave me a run for my money. I don't really care and i'm happy to admit that VR's aren't the fastest cars on the road and it would appear that there are alot modern hot hatches that have alot more power, a mate of mine has just bought a clio 197, i'm avoiding him. Just wondered what your most surprising defeat in your VR's have been?
  9. i started to have problems of a similar nature, car would only start if i applied gas and generally ran like a pile of shite. took it too VW main dealer and the problem turned out to be the throttle body was coked up and not operating properly, so off it came and was given a mega clean and the car ran like a dream. according to the guy at VW this is a common problem with vr's. It might not be whats up with yours but its worth a try .
  10. go and get the proper titainium ones from vw they are expensive but really good. any main dealer should stock them.they'll probably fit them whilst you wait. which is what i wish i had done, the tool for removing the leads that comes with the car is shite.
  11. http://www.proalloy.co.uk/cgi-bin/sitewise.pl?act=sect&pt=52_139&s=342&id=proalloy Sorry i can't get the link thign to work but heres the web page .
  12. The fans on my vr are shite and really noisey, i found these on the internet and apparently they are really good, 1/4 of the size more power and virtually silent. and only £135 for a twin set and mounting bracket. They are used on rs500 cossy rally car so they obviously perform well. Just wondering if they will work on my VR amd if anyone has any idea on how to wire them ??? act=sect&pt=52_139&s=342&id=proalloy they are the ones at the bottom of the page . I was thinking about cutting the standard fans out and then mounting these in there place, i'm not good at wiring so any
  13. are you certain its a misfire?, i had a dirty throttle body and it had the same symptoms aparently vr's are prone to this. mate took mine off and gave it a major clean and problemo solved, i was fearing the worst also as mine was stalling at junctions and not starting and spluttering sounds like you've got the same prob mate.
  14. 91k engine spot on, regular oil changes(gtx mag)plugs and leads. no chain rattle. just a radiator fan problem.
  15. Please can someone help me, i really need a wiring diagram for the Radiator fan, my fan is only working on speed 3 and before i bung out on a new fan i want to check the wiring. Thanks Dave
  16. Thank you all for your input on this issue. Whilst scouring the internet trying to find a solution to this and i came accross a mk4 site, can't remember the exact site but anyway apparently this is a very common problem on mk4's and after speaking to other people it appears to be problem with vw fans full stop. alot of people have this problem and don't know about it until its too late i.e Head Gasket. or apparently it can damage the air conditioning, as it doesn't get sufficiently cooled. Kev could you post details of the SPAL fans that you were talking about as i think my bad boys are headi
  17. when you click on the air-con should the fan come on straight away?
  18. i'll try those mate, i tried the FCU tonight but did't help. the fan seems to only run on full speed what ever.when its on its on full. bloody thing!!!
  19. Just incase anyone is interested or is having the same problem. The fan appears to only be working on the highest speed which would account for the noise, apparently if you have air con the fan should be on when the air con is turned on, which mine isn't!! all i get is full speed fan now and then, this could also account for the air con flashing a fault code. I think i'm right in saying VR's have a 3 speed fan. Anyway spoke to a mate that works for VW and he's asked a tech and he's said that it could be the FCU (fan control unit) that has gone up the spout. I'll post when tried new FCU. I h
  20. Hi all, As you can probably gather from the name of the thread i have got a really noisey rad fan, it really isn't doing my street cred any good, when the fan kicks in at traffic lights it sounds like a plane waiting to take off!!! I was wondering if there is any way that you can re-lube the motor or is it gonna be a new fan job. Any advice would be most appreciated. thanks Dave
  21. Not sure how many miles to the tank but was on a steady run the other week doing around 70ish and my MPG went round to 34MPG !!!! I put this down to regular oil changes(Magnatec) and also Greased Lightening engine addative which quientened my engine dramaticly and has given me this sort of MPG. I would definatly recommend it to anyone.

  23. Hi mate, If i were to choose between the two i'd go for the bottom ones. it's always easier to pick other peoples though, i'm having the same trouble choosing myself. check out POTN.com there is hundreds to choose from at good prices.
