  1. You took the words right out of my mouth Jon - im a bit confused by all of this Didnt some chap from up North buy your old Mulberry Highline from Canterbury recently ?! - is this the one youve bought back ?! Pete.
  2. GSI's have a lovely engine but the problem is weight when compared to a VR - not really a fair comparison tbh To get close to a Vr i would have thought you need a healthy 3ltr Super Touring Vectra
  3. Having a car that will snap into oversteer without provocation on the public road is dangerous imho - you need to have a degree of neutrality built into the chassis as you cant account for what is round the next corner forcing you to lift off and provoke a slide. As i mentioned in my previous post any car with a beam rear axle will lift a inside rear whell under hard conering due to a lack of roll stiffness on the front axle and a stiff rear due to the beam axle - this includes nearly all the present day hot hatches - VTS, Saxo, Mk1,2 & 3 Golf and nearly every FF drive car on the road upto
  4. My God my/our cars were filthy - ive only just managed to wash mine this afternoon - even the Missus said it needed washing which considering she 'doesnt do cars' says it all really Good laugh and nice to watch from a different perspective Tommy in mine go against Mark in his VR down the A509 Highly amusing - shame the old duffer in the WRX wasnt up for some on the M1 Eh Tom Couple of pics from mine:- [ Edited Tue Nov 09 2004, 08:25PM ]
  5. Depends what the roll stiffness is on the front as to how far it cocks the rear wheel up in the air. Tbh the inside rear wheel doesnt actually do sweet fa when cornering hard and most cars with a beam rear axle do the same under hard cornering so nothing to worry about imho... All depends on if you like lift off oversteer and how able you are to cope with it - the Mk3 Golf is very neutral in this respect and does need severe provocation to step out even under hard driving - with the stiffer rear bar you will possibly lose some of that but in my opinion that is a good thing for the experienced
  6. Good choice Mate with the FK's - pretty firm but apart from that - spot on 8) Seems like no expense will be spared on your beasty
  7. What they said Claire Hey - dont worry :! - im sure youll find something bigger and better very quickly - sometimes redundancy is a blessing in disguise and as others have said it usually leads to securing a better job - this has been the case for two of my mates in the last year or so 8) Case in point is my mate Nick (City Boy) was on around £40k last year - this year he's on £75k basic/£75k bonus 8) 8) Lets face it Claire - you must have been bored in your job 'cause you were always on 'ere
  8. Best to avoid spraying a steam cleaner/jetwash etc directly at any electrical items such as alarms or ecu's - just bag them up before you start
  9. the chromed engine cover is in fact the original inlet manifold thats has been polished. Under the inlet manifold the early models have an alloy cam cover (later cars have plastic) - this is alos often polished for that 'bling' factor 8) just ask our resident 'bling' expert Blingliner for any closet information on polishing
  10. 85k is nothing for the big VR6 engine - just check for timing chain noise on idle or 1200rpm's - if all is good then not much more to worry about... Check the header tank and dipstick for signs of headgasket failure - check the header tank for fumes too.....
  11. Agree with Simon - the car looks 'clean' - i also prefer the BBS to the Brocks no question. Change the backbox though mate - goes against what youve done with the rest of the car 8) Pete.
  12. Just back from the 'Run what ya brung' day which unfortunately was a bit of a washout - still the company more than made up for that and the drive up/down was fun Im sure the sound of two supercharged VR6's going through the underpass tunnels on the North side of the M25 must have enlightened a few peoples day We also saw a nastyly modified Renualt 5 Gt Turbo with far too much filler and Jap style bodykit abomination crashed into a roundabout - i have to say i did chuckle 8) I'll post some pics in a minute - Tommy also did a video clip of mark and me at full chat through the undepa
  13. From what i could make out the lowers looked in good nick.... As for the tesioner being bled - i doubt its had beeen removed prior to me - it wasnt a case of it not having any oil in it - it had just got stuck in a compressed position
  14. Well..........the guy never mentioned the tint - only the fact the lettering was carbon and hard to read... He did say a traffic cop might come down harder because the plates are harder to read and i could get done for 'perverting the course of justice' because the plates could prove probelmatical for speed cameras (now theres a thought 8) ) I guess its a case of trial and error - i might try some plain tinted plates but id want to see the finished result before handing over cash - ie not too dark next time methinks Pete.

    Recaros

Never actually pinned him down for a price for recovering tbh - most of my cars had/have leather I do know he gets lovely hides for about £80 - cant remember how many seats youd get out of one hide but i think it might be 1 1/2-2 ?! Pete. P.S - weve been engaged for 8 years - why break the habit
  16. Have got to go We were all laughing last weekend about how my smoked number plates evaded the coppers notice in the M1 services car park.... Well on Thursday i got pulled and handed a vehicle defect form - not due to the tint on the plates but the carbon look lettering - gutted Got 14 days to put the old ones back on and go to an MOT station for the form to be stamped.. Oh well best make the most of those 14 days then

Unfortunately theyre stock leathers - not recaro's
  18. tandino

    Recaros

Right - i think im with you - your going to transfer the 1/2 leather skins to the scabby 2 dr tilt seats as your car is a 2 dr - right ?! . I then presume your car is cloth interior - what will you do with the rear bench - could you modify the 1/2 leather from the Cossie to fit your rear seat?? As for trimmer - my Fiance's father is an upholsterer for a expensive furniture company - theyve got displays in Harrods and the like

    Recaros

Of course the other alternative is to look for a crashed colour concept with black leather recaro's as standard 8)

Tbh mate - if your going to get them recovered then you really want to be looking out for the cheapest scabiest seats you can find - it doesnt matter what they look like on top as thats going to be revamped. As for £500 - is that just for the front pair of seats ?! - bleeding expensive if it is - id expect all four for that sort of cash

    Recaros

Well im guessing here but 25kg per seat is not uncommon - especially if they are electric.... Pete.
  22. As mentioned in my post - the lower chain is not giving off any noise whatsoever so ill worry about that when the time comes - ie when i need to do my clutch Also as i said last weekend the upper tensioner bolt apart from the spring only uses oil pressure for tension - there is no ratchet adjuster inside 8) Pete.
