Love at first sight

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and girls

I wanted to hear where everyone's love of the vr6 first came from? :)

Mine was when I was about 18, walking along west wickam high street, I heard some rumbly engines driving up the road and then noticed it was 2 golf vr6s, one 3 door and one 5 door.

They stopped at traffic lights then once they went green, They both roared up the road racing each other.... Best engine I ever heard!! I then said to myself I'm having one! Year later I did :D

So what's everyone else's first sight of the beastly vr6?

My first sight of the VR6 was notorious! I live in Bradford, West Yorkshire and it has always been a place where you will find the criminal fraternity flourishing. There was this one particular commodity trader who owned a Mulberry High Line. This was the mid 1990's so the VR6 was a real talked about machine and everyone was talking about this guys 'wicked' car. One day me and my pals were just out walking and we heard this thunder, looked back and there it was tearing up the road and wooshed right by. That was it. I fell in deep lust for that shaped car. Never left me, never will!

Years ago my cousin bought a mk2 black what I thought was a gti. Took me for drive in it and floored it the power and the noise was incredible and I fell in love with the car was gutted when he sold it. Then 2 year ago decided I needed a project car as never done one and could finally afford it. Went to Pickering car show with the other half stood talking to a mate when all of a sudden a mk3 vr6 starts up and start revving I knew there and then I had to have one.

I could of probably had one years ago but I went through a bmw phase and had a few M3's and various other beemers then one of car dealer mates took a hot chilli 5dr vr in part ex and that reminded me of the sound and it was about a year after I seen the hot chilli red 3dr I've had for 3yrs now. And I ain't going anywhere. My 5yr old daughter said it's her golf vr6 so I've set a target to try and keep it till she's old enough to drive . Bearing in mind I only ever used to tax a car once makes this a struggle. To be honest I think it's the only car I've ever really wanted to keep

My dad used to be service and after sales manger of a dealership called stapelys in Rhyl, he used to travel from wrexham each day until they closed it and built a B&Q instead. He was always coming home with different company cars, from audi 80 quattros and mk2 big bumper Gti's in the early 90s and I remember him pointing out the "new" mk3 and me asking him what the badge on the front was because it wasn't a gti. And so the love affair with VW began.

My dad has always had cars that had something special about them. I wasn't very old but Some I was old enough to remember. A few that come to mind are a Datsun that had a rover v8 under the bonnet, mk1 golf gti and an early Bmw 325i sport.. He had taken me out in all of them.

However one day he pulled on the drive in a different car I remember him telling me to come look. He told me it was the latest vw golf he told me is was the 2.8 vr6 highline . I was too young to understand what that ment but he seemed more excited about this car than any others I remember. I instantly fell in love with it. He took me out in it and I remember the smell of the leather and the exciting thunderous noise that came from under the bonnet it was more special than any of the other cars he'd had.... Today I still love that very same car. But now it's mine.. I don't think we shall ever part. It's currently at stealth having turbo conversion and the first time I get into it again I shall be that kid again in that same car, feeling the same love and excitement.

A Golf VR6 was the first quick car I ever drove probably a month or so after passing my test and having a mk4 escort 1.3L with as many Rs turbo bits as I could find bolted to it, I couldn't believe my luck when my boss told me to drop it back to the customer. I absolutely loved it and thought it was the fastest thing ever! Then last year ( about 13 or 14 years later I was flicking through eBay looking to relive my youth by hunting for an escort or fiesta turboand then realising I didn't want to spend £2000 on a rust bucket with no power steeringI came across my Vr for next to no money remembered how much I used to want one and felt sorry for it so rescued it, it's now my favourite car I've ever owned! And I'll hopefully never sell it!!

An awesome job of rescuing it too bennyk.

I think this topic would be better named love at first sound lol. I instantly fell in love the first time I put my foot to the floor and heard that roar and felt it pull away, it will always be a treasured memory too :)
