Ive had many a happy occcasion cruising away from beemer drivers who think they own the road, although i leave 330s and above alone :)

Only time ive felt really pissed on was this weekend on the way to Burning Bournemouth (a bit Max Power, but a good laugh). Evos are quick, veeeeery quick.

i guess it all depends what kinda arse kicking you all want. anything with over or around 250bhp and 4wd is going to seriously embarass most vr6's, even modded ones, away from the lights! however on the open road its usually a different story, as most 4wd's do have some serious transmission loss in the midrange, allowing lesser cars to , if not keep up/pull away , at least not make a fool of themselves! i tend to leave the traffic light grand prix's alone now , as tyres and cluthes are expensive comodities, and prefer to challenge anything from top end of second onwards! have been whipped several times, evo's/saph cossies/bm evo's, but have also had a fair share of victories, so to speak! it doesn't seem to matter how fast you think your car out there is, there's always something faster! bring on the twin turbo conversion and 12mpg ! :-)

If the new kit gives me the same performance as an Audi S3' date=' I'll be well happy. Those are quick little cars.[/quote']

i mean as standard you can just keep up with an S3. a mate has one, and even tho i am a better driver, he's not bad. he relies on the esp, where as i do it myself. the S3 will get a slight jump off the line, but only gains in cornering when its a long corner. the 4wd on the S3 isn't 'proper' 4wd, it tends to understeer loads.

the power to weight ratio of the S3 is 160bhp per ton, the vr6 is 140bhp per ton...but thats presuming the vr6 has 170bhp! vr's seem to have a habit of producing a bit more, thus evening things up. gotta remember the audi is proper heavy.

to be fair, i think the vr6 is quicker all round! in my experience anyway. even with the advantage(?) of 4wd, the 4motion is a heavier car to start with and with the transmission losses taken into account, i'd put the ball firmly in the vr6 court! a well set up suspension on the mk.3 will certainly give it a run for its money at the very least!

I was doing about 100mph on a dual carriageway one night saw some lights approaching rather rapidly in the rear view mirror so put my foot down... at 120 it went past me like I wasnt there (it undertook me as I couldnt move over quick enough!)... it seems volvos arent just good for pulling caravans! B) :@

Im not getting started on this topic. This has been done to death everywhere.

You say your mate beat you in his SLK230 ? well i always have a play with one on the way to work, and i eat him for breakfast......but then........was he really trying ? That z3 you burned up.........was HE trying ? or was his missus in the passenger seat giving him grief ?

As for the 4motion, it has 205-ish BHP as standard, i'd take a mk3 vr6 everyday thank you very much !

Have got my VR on several occasions kicking 4 motions asses. A few times at the pod, so I know he was trying! And another time came across one on the open road who was well up for it, and luckily Mangold and I were doing some filming, so had the cam with us! This guy was doing everything he could to try and loose us, but stayed there nailed to his bumper, even had to back off a little as was going to end up pushing him along! Have also had a good thrash on cam, with an S3, the guy in it was gutted as he couldn't believe it was an almost standard VR! Even followed me till I stopped for petrol to ask what was in it, lol! His mate was taking the pi55 as it was only about 6 months old!

I have been well and truly thrashed by a few motors though, but generally I'll only play if I know its going to be close, I give the top motors with serious power the respect they deserve, just wish the Paxo's and Nova's did the same! :P

I've only ever got whipped by one car and it was a Twin Turbo Supra. Those things are awsome.

I agree with the Evo/Scooby comment. They seem weak mid to top-end. Very good out of the blocks 1st and 2nd, but then I easily leave em for dead. I always imagined the escort Cossie to be a very good all-rounder, but I absolutely oblitorated one returning from Pod one evening. All 4x4's have the same problem..

its always a valid question, is he tryin?

but it was only a 1.9, and i'd say from the fact i could hear him hitting the rev limiter that he was.

Evil' date=' i was about to say wasting scoobys ? forgot you've got some forced induction under the bonnet !

[/quote']

Olly, I've had a few ding dongs with Scoobys and they all seem to run out of puff after 115+ , maybe its down to the gearing or something? Or the advantage of the 4 wheel drive for acceleration has worn off? But there's no doubting they are very quick off the mark. :(

acf8181, its always a good sign of them trying when they're bouncin off the rev limiter ! i mean in theory we should be beating all z3's no ? didnt they do a 3.2l version though ?

Six Appeal, to be honest, i've never had the balls to play with em. Interesting though. Will go Scooby hunting tomorrow !

To be honest Olly, I've raced just about everything there is to race.

I'm not your typical dub owner. I belong to what you would sometimes call the 'Max Power' type of scene. However, things go on that are pretty 'underground' these days due to Police interest ect ect.

On the Z3 subject, I can't say I've come across one yet. I know the M-series conversion is pretty awsome. I DID, however have run in with a brand spanking new BMW Z4, he didn't seem to happy that he'd just been done by an old Golf. But I've got to say I was impressed with it. Stunningly Beautiful in every way too. If I had the cash I'd go and buy one tomorrow.

A lot of people are going out and buying scoobies now because they are so cheap. Most of them still need a fair bit of cash spunked over them to create a real tool.

I have a friend who has a Subaru Impreza P1 (3 door) and it's an absolute animal. He'll whip me out of the blocks any day, but as mentioned earlier, when the old 4x4 doesn't count anymore (+100mph) too much of it's grunt is lost in powering all four wheels.

It's all swings and roundabouts. I'd love 4 wheel drive, but you never quite know how far you can push it before you are in a dangerous situation or even on it's roof! With Front wheel drive you know very early when you are pushing your luck and get more time to correct it.

Another one of my friends sold his golf to buy a brand new Scooby. Put it on his roof. Bought another Golf.

Swings and roundabouts..
