Or you can go the full hog and get a conversion kit from epytec and fit Porsche brembo rear calipers but you will still need to use your original calipers set up aswell for the handbrake. This is a cool kit but expensive.

VR6CABBS reacted to carterleeds in Carter's Matte Grey MK3 VR6
hi guys so im Carter from leeds,
i have owned 4 mk3 vr6's.. the first being a black 3 door the second a red 3 door as you may have seen on youtube the third a dragon green 5 door and forth a rear grey 3 door highline, as well as many other cars but always kept going back for more with the VR's, i guess it was a car that was cheap and fun and you got a lot of bang for your buck, as the saying goes... the 3 main things that attracted me the most was 1. price 2. the noise and 3. shape... however being younger i bought them had fun in them and sold them for quick few pennies and that was that, now being a bit more older i started to appreciate the car for more than what it is, instead of treating it like a condom lol anywho when i decided to buy 5th one it was going to be a project that i could spend some time on it, put a lot of work in and make it great and hopefully keep it and pass it down...

so in august 2015 i messaged a fellow forum user on here and i purchased my 5th mk3 vr6 3 door 1997 in anthracite blue with ac and climatronic it had only 2 owners which was in his family me being the third... it came with a full service history as well as a folder full of paperwork... the car was mechanically perfect no issues with the engine or running gear, i had it parked it up for nearly 7 months and it started perfectly not even a little cough, did a few minor pre MOT work then took it for an MOT it passed first time at National Tyres... the body work needing some attention with regards to rust no dents r scratches just rust, the rear arches were rusting and the there was odds spots  all over with rust as well as 2 wings that needing replacing which i had in the bassment from my previous VR's, i sorted out all the rust with a grinder and some rust treatment that is used in military which eliminates rust if any is left which i can assure there isnt any with the hep of the grinder lol so now the car is rust free.... the interior was in a decentish state the driver cloth seat was ripped in places the headliner was sagging and the steering wheel was ripped so all got replaced, new colour concept recaro leathers with door cards a sparco teering wheel and replaced headliner... so they were the issues that was there already which got rectified...

now comes the fun parts buying the new parts and fitting them lol whatever parts i bought i always had the mind set of functionality first looks second..

    MOD's LIST (so far lol)
coilovers - brand new - i went with fk ak street coilovers as they were cheap but functional and good quality for the price, the ride is good the lows are good nothing to complain about
exhaust - brand new - i went with a custom decat from front to middle box and bought a direnza exhaust because i had one fitted previously and it did the job well, again fucntonal and no problems
headlights - brand new-  morette tinted see through headlights with the air intake mod
steering wheel - brand new - sparco suede steering wheel because why not and i needed a new one and it looks awesome
shifter - second hand - purchased a short shifter of a fellow memeber who makes them on this forum
silicone water hoses - brand new - i decided to get silicone hoses because the lower water pipe reutrn from coolant tank likes to crack and leak so replaced them all and benifits included greater pressure holding and i went with red to match the spark plug leads
speakers - bradn new - pioneer speakers 2 tweers in the front dash and 2 two ways in the back
leather seats/door cards - second hand - needed a new interior so got a pair of black leather colour concept recaros and rears with headrests and door cards
wheels - second hand - genuine 15" bbs alloys with genuine centre caps which i refurbished in gloss back

forgot to mention i will be getting the car resprayed in the original colour as not to have to miss match the engine bay colour etc and easier and cheaper, s for now i have wrapped the car in matte metallic anthracite grey...

so for now thanks for reading any comment welcome and i will add as i go along with any updates.

VR6CABBS reacted to c00k in Mulberry Highline Daily.
Tried my red HT leads on engine,

Then bought some purple HT leads, they're not the shade of purple I was hoping for, so I'm not sure if I like them.
I have spare black and red leads, so not sure which to run at the mo.

Few spots of rust around the front passenger window that needed attention.
(If this was my black VR it would of got cut out and welded, or whole door replaced most probs. But I fancied trying something different on this one as it just my daily)

Removed  door card, window and mechanisms, window seals, and wing mirror.
Masked up surrounding area. And sanded the rust back.
Then started to treat the remaining rust with some rust remover gel.

cleaned the gel and repeated 3-4 time. Once 98-99% of the rust was gone I treated the remaining 1% with rust nuterlising treatment. Hoping this will be enough to stop the rust returning. But only time will tell.

After treating the metal I sprayed on some high build primer and left to dry.

Finally I sand it smooth and sprayed it mulberry.
    But I didn't to take a photo.

Two things missing from Golf Mk3's as dailies are.... A front Center arm rest and a left (clutch) footrest.
My black VR has a genuine golf mk3 footrest I sourced few years ago. Yes they make a MK3 foot rest. I believe they come from a special edition diesel, but not 100%. I tried to find another one for this car, but I can't seem to find any for sale at the mo.
    So I bought a Golf mk5 footrest.

I'm halfway through custom fitting it. Photos to come soon.

As for the arm rest I bought an after market one meant to fit a Golf mk3. Only problem was they are designed to fit a standard center console. Not a highline center console.
Instead of swapping to a standard center console. As I like the highline one and how it surrounds the handbrake, I had to customise the mount so it would fit.

Mount that came with arm rest designed to fit a standard center console.

Starting to customising the mount. I didn't get a photo of the finished mount. But this was in the first stages.

Then got it fitted nicely to the highline center console, and fitted back in to car.

Removed the highline gear knob to restore it.
A pervious owner had sprayed it black, I guess to trying to hide the few worn areas.

Sanded back with 800 grit, and I'm going to re-stain and spray a few layers of varnish. Still waiting for my varnish to be derived and then I can fishing it.

    More to come soon....

VR6CABBS got a reaction from redvr6_girl in How long have you owned your VR6?
I've owned my mk3 highline for just over 3 years now and it wasn't bought out of choice. I placed an add on another site for a Mk3 GTI 16v and a young chap messaged to ask if I was interested in a VR6. First thought was the fuel bill and I weren't interested to be fair but the chap insisted on sending me some pics. Totally standard and with only 43k on the clock and with full documented history I decided to take a look down in Birmingham. The car was first owned by BP Oil and given to the elderly chap I bought it from when he retired. The guy I had been dealing with was the son of the old chap who drove it down to Birmingham from Kent where it sat in his garage and only came out on the odd occasion to keep it moving. Only taxed for 6 months a year and parked away and cover during the winter months.

So in Birmingham and the guys were very welcoming. Made me a cup of tea and we sat down to chat about the car. It wasn't about buying the car and sending me on my way. He wanted to know future plans and showed me the history he had right down to the last receipt. It even came with original bill of sale and all previous V5's, MOT's and tax discs's.

Out for a test run and the guy told me he had never driven it over 50mph as he once put his foot down in 2 gear and it scared the life out of him. Haha. Anyway we drank some more tea and stuck a deal and I was off back to Manchester in my new VR.

I remember the journey home being all smiles as the car purred along the M6. I couldn't wait to get it home and show my pals who pushed for me to buy it.

Back home and sitting snug on the driveway the mind started to kick think about future mods so I took to the Internet for a good read and up popped the VR6OC. A good hour browsing the forum as a guest and I made myself a fully paid member and the warm welcome was cool. I remember@michael5556 saying another manchester one to our collection. (Bet he doesn't remember that) i guess that could only be a dig at you southern lot as you have stole most of the uk's Vr's. Hahahaha.

On further browsing and now a member of the vr6oc I decided to take a look at the fancy wheels and mods you guys had done and for the love of it I had to have some new wheels and a coil over kit to make it look that little bit nicer. I also took the decision to park it away and only bring it out when the weather was nice. I wanted to keep the miles low and keep it looking good so it got parked away down at work with a cover over it.

I'm not going to go into more detail as I feel the car has come along way since owning it and I'd like to start a build thread soon with lots of pics of how the car first started life. I don't bring it out much being on a limited miles policy so she sits snug in the corner of our unit covered up with a battery conditioner on to bounce her into combustion when I feel the need to drive her.

You will see more of her shortly in a build thread but here's a couple of picks in her current state.

Well, the rain had stopped. It was still a mild evening. Things started to dry out.....

Best crack on with the clutch and gearbox refit then!

    All went well, no dramas.
Found it easier to remove the shifting tower to get it back together...

    All bolted back up.

More or less complete and ready for a clean under the bonnet and to attack the brakes tomorrow now.

Found my goodridge hoses in the garage. Fronts are the correct ones, need to check the rears.

Calipers will get a coat of paint too.

Enough waffling for now, my back is sore and a need a beer lol.....

Hope for a dry day tomorrow and get cracked on!!

    Hi Mate,

With body work it's a case of you pay for what you get. I'd say £300 per side is a good price if they do a good job. Genuine wings are obsolete now but oem and more are probably your best bet for copy wings. Many on here have use them and they seem to fit well with a little fettling.
