Mine is obd2 fella. Dd42 pcv delete is great btw. I bought mine direct from USA rather than from uk. It was much quicker to arrive rather than the one my mate ordered from a uk store. Because guess what, the store waits for a substantial order before placing an order with dd42 in the USA..

Hmm. Normally when no engine speed recorded on diagnostic tool, that's gonna be due to the crank sensor, that's directly where engine speed signal is measured.
It's 100% gonna be a Sensor. If you got a spare, try camshaft sensor too, it surely has to be one of those two -

Hi frosty I had exactly the same problem and couldn't work out what was going on . Mk3 vr6 1996 obd2 aaa . Drove to the shops engine up to warm . Got the shopping and when I restarted the engine it would rev then just die. It would restart and then be fine !! I checked and replaced the crank sensor and maf still same problem . Thought I'd take the throttle body off and clean it . I removed the air intake pipe to the throttle body and noticed a very small spilt on the underside in between the concertina . The underside gets hot from the exhaust manifold and the heat was causing the split to open up and causing the engine to die. I sourced a secondhand part off eBay and presto the problem was gone (I temp wrapped in tape til it arrived).
Hope this fix is the same in your case, let me know
Cheers

Need some help on this one guys been trying to resolve this issue for months ,
When restarting the car when the engine is warmed up only it either cuts out straight away after you have turned the key or will cut out at one of the first few junctions at random when coming to a stop and dipping the clutch its like its not catching the idle, as soon as it cuts out it starts back up instantly on the key no longer cranking time or waiting to cool down, when restarted its back to normal drives fine and holds idle correctly at junctions etc, occasionally it will do it more than once on a drive but most of the time it does it once and its fine anyone have any suggestions ??
So far i have cleaned the MAF, Intake boot(checked for cracks also) and part of the TB you can see with the intake boot removed.
Have also changed: Blue temp sensor, Crank sensor just changed the 02 on the CAT and new CAT also, I bought a new scanner (Foxwell NT-510) and scanned it before doing the 02 sensor and got only 1 code:
00525 Oxygen Sensor G39 - Sporadic-Implausible Signal
No engine speed code the one everyone gets when the engine is not started which i thought was strange but the crank sensor is new and if faulty would surely throw a code anyway so cant really see why that code is not showing.
Now the 00525 code has gone and the car is showing a system pass no faults found on the engine scan so that must of been a problem but not THE problem as the car is still doing it.
Car is a 1996 OBD2 and manual
Bit stumped by this one guys any help much appreciated,
Frosty

So I have decided to change up the golf a little over the next few months. Having come to terms with the fact I doubt I will do track days in it I want to use it more and make it a little more comfortable. So I am going for a subtle amp/sub install, false floor and air ride. Then tidy some bits of paint up and drive it.
Made a start on the sub install.
Started with a frame.

Plan is to lay the false floor over the top and carpet it with as close to OEM as possible. Looking to have a hinged section in the middle maybe with some other trick bits.
Then air ride will sit on rear seat base. May find another set of rear carpets as mine went in the skip.

Thanks it is s good car very solid was surprised my self it does require a bit of welding in 2 places just a small section behind drivers side rear wheel and one rear floor Bung has gone it did look mint but me being me power washed it cleaning the underneath and carpet felt wet and power wash had blown the grommet through so have a fist hole but for what I paid for it I'm not bothered just get Ben to weld it and reseal and it will be like new so not bad considering

Can't believe how clean that car is, I even considered buying it myself. Not a bad price either by all accounts. Welcome back to the fold.

Bealieboy reacted to carterleeds in Carter's Matte Grey MK3 VR6
hi guys so im Carter from leeds,
i have owned 4 mk3 vr6's.. the first being a black 3 door the second a red 3 door as you may have seen on youtube the third a dragon green 5 door and forth a rear grey 3 door highline, as well as many other cars but always kept going back for more with the VR's, i guess it was a car that was cheap and fun and you got a lot of bang for your buck, as the saying goes... the 3 main things that attracted me the most was 1. price 2. the noise and 3. shape... however being younger i bought them had fun in them and sold them for quick few pennies and that was that, now being a bit more older i started to appreciate the car for more than what it is, instead of treating it like a condom lol anywho when i decided to buy 5th one it was going to be a project that i could spend some time on it, put a lot of work in and make it great and hopefully keep it and pass it down...
so in august 2015 i messaged a fellow forum user on here and i purchased my 5th mk3 vr6 3 door 1997 in anthracite blue with ac and climatronic it had only 2 owners which was in his family me being the third... it came with a full service history as well as a folder full of paperwork... the car was mechanically perfect no issues with the engine or running gear, i had it parked it up for nearly 7 months and it started perfectly not even a little cough, did a few minor pre MOT work then took it for an MOT it passed first time at National Tyres... the body work needing some attention with regards to rust no dents r scratches just rust, the rear arches were rusting and the there was odds spots all over with rust as well as 2 wings that needing replacing which i had in the bassment from my previous VR's, i sorted out all the rust with a grinder and some rust treatment that is used in military which eliminates rust if any is left which i can assure there isnt any with the hep of the grinder lol so now the car is rust free.... the interior was in a decentish state the driver cloth seat was ripped in places the headliner was sagging and the steering wheel was ripped so all got replaced, new colour concept recaro leathers with door cards a sparco teering wheel and replaced headliner... so they were the issues that was there already which got rectified...
now comes the fun parts buying the new parts and fitting them lol whatever parts i bought i always had the mind set of functionality first looks second..
MOD's LIST (so far lol)
coilovers - brand new - i went with fk ak street coilovers as they were cheap but functional and good quality for the price, the ride is good the lows are good nothing to complain about
exhaust - brand new - i went with a custom decat from front to middle box and bought a direnza exhaust because i had one fitted previously and it did the job well, again fucntonal and no problems
headlights - brand new- morette tinted see through headlights with the air intake mod
steering wheel - brand new - sparco suede steering wheel because why not and i needed a new one and it looks awesome
shifter - second hand - purchased a short shifter of a fellow memeber who makes them on this forum
silicone water hoses - brand new - i decided to get silicone hoses because the lower water pipe reutrn from coolant tank likes to crack and leak so replaced them all and benifits included greater pressure holding and i went with red to match the spark plug leads
speakers - bradn new - pioneer speakers 2 tweers in the front dash and 2 two ways in the back
leather seats/door cards - second hand - needed a new interior so got a pair of black leather colour concept recaros and rears with headrests and door cards
wheels - second hand - genuine 15" bbs alloys with genuine centre caps which i refurbished in gloss back
forgot to mention i will be getting the car resprayed in the original colour as not to have to miss match the engine bay colour etc and easier and cheaper, s for now i have wrapped the car in matte metallic anthracite grey...
so for now thanks for reading any comment welcome and i will add as i go along with any updates.
