Sunday has arrived... and so did the paint and laquer for the mk2.. got it all taped up this morning and started to lay down the first coat of paint, covered all the primer patches first then moved onto putting a dusty coat across the full car for colour.. The fresh paint I put on it seemed to be so metallicy compared to the paint that was already on, maybe a different variant to what the last painter used.. I have used around 2 litres of colour and around 3 ltrs of anti scratch lacquer to get a high build on the panels so there is enough to flat down and buff up, the car isn't standing me much at all at the minute so I wasn't going for a show standard paint job, a nice flat clean car is all I'm after. Something respectable that I can use as my daily and be a bit of a sleeper for the young boy racers who want a go in their corsas ... I think a dirty derv badge will be next on my list of purchases to go on the back end..
Gonna leave the car another couple of days before I start flatting it down with a block to really give it a good chance to harden off and be cured enough.. I might get the trims and glass cleaned up tommorow.
I ended up nearly forgetting to paint my eyebrow for the front. Put it inside the car and only just remembered in time when I had enough paint left in the gun lol.. but it's now done and ready to put on. It's just a plastic panel so is it best to just use some mastic or no nails to attach it to the grill???? It's got no holes or anything for self tappers..
Progress pics will be added the more I get through it...

Now I'm here lol.... another couple of coats of primer on the bonnet on Friday then I'm gonna pain it on Sunday, with any luck I should have it done, windows back in and all flattened and polished by Wednesday next week.. I've got some banded steels being made at present to 8j front and 9j rears. Gonna do something with them that's gonna be a bit marmite I think, your either gonna think it's different and like or literally hate it hahaha... I will upload some more snaps next week once I've got some paint on it..

So... thought I would start a thread about my mk2 that I bought around April this year (2014)... I bought it from a guy in Newcastle (not far from me) for a very respectable price.. basically I bought the car after selling my mondeo st220 wanting to get into the vag scene... always wanted to get a raddo vr6 since I was a kid and first set eyes on one but when this came up I couldn't resist...
The car has been around the mill of owners (all seem to be club members from different forums). its seems to have done the rounds but came out still in good shape.. I took it on with no MOT, no TAX but with 2 wallets of service history.. 1 for the car itself and 1 for the engine with a genuine checked 75k FSH from vw dealerships.. lump came from a 97 mk3 highline which was dragon green I believe.
The pics below of how the car was when I bought it, stripped down a lot and most of the parts were in boxes in the back of the car.
I got it home on the back of a trailer and placed it strategically on my grass outside knowing it wouldn't take me long before I attacked it and got started rooting through boxes and building it back up to see what I had and what I didn't...

From here I got the interior in and arches/bumpers/lights and original grill back on. And got it to this...
I stumbled upon a few extra parts that I didn't seem to need (must have been bought as spares)..
Next came it's MOT to see what it was really like and what type of depth I was getting myself Into.. fearing the worst I booked it up for the next week and drove it there...
On the way, disaster.. It overheated.. steam from the bonnet, temp through the roof (I stopped as soon as it was safe) switched off and let it cool down.. eventually got it to the MOT test station and it began...
Guess what...It only went and flew through the MOT, only advisory was 1 n/s/rear tyre was on the minimum tread depth.. The guy also worked out that it was my thermostat that had jammed up and caused the engine to overheat and not let the fan kick in...
With a new thermostat and alternator fitted after its test I took it staright to the post office for a shiney new tax disc ...
    Then the fun began...

When I got home after weeks of searching through eBay I got to order a few hundred quids worth of new bits and pieces to make it a little better and feel like my own..
After giving it a good clean inside and out I started to notice all the chips/scratches and little bits and bobs that would eventually need sorting out.. but never the less I gave it a machine polish and got out what I could and touched up what was needed to use it as my daily until I got time to get it all repaired and repainted..

Cooz, are you gonna come down to leeds for the vw festival? It's at Harewood house in august for a weekend? We have a stand there and I think there is still 2 places left if you want your vr on there? Great weekend, bring the family if you have one? We are camping from Friday to Sunday. Plus by the time you get to durham we could travel in convoy. . About 4-5 of us from here

A little bit of an update. Started pulling all the auxiliary stuff off my 2.8 block cleaned and painted some bits and polished my alternator up. Put my new oil cooler on my 2.9 block and bolted the auxiliaries on too. Then I flattened and polished my inlet manifold and it came out lovely
