  1. yeah definitely let the pro's do that, not worth the grief! .......and scratches on the car and cut fingers!!! Probably didn't help that I didn't have the right tools though! Not sure about the lights yet Lukey, the lamps are genuine but these black surrounds are the copy ones,I need a n/s genuine smoked hella one because mines cracked and then ill colour code these to see how it looks. I'm not to sure about the twins yet anyway and might try smoking or joeying (whatever you want to call it!) the originals as they're in pretty good nick apart from the lenses, which are on eBay for peanuts. Se
  2. Finally got the car on all 4 porsche wheels today, after trying to find another pair of 35mm fk adaptors,(they seem to have been on back order from wherever I tried since before Christmas) I saw a set of h&r 40mm spacers on eBay last week and won them for £51, bargain as they're £140odd new! They are different to the fk's, being studs instead of bolts, but I'll worry about it at a later date by maybe by getting another pair of 40mm h&r's for the front. Here's the pics, H&R 40mm spacers; Fk versus h&r; As the sun came out for the first time in ages decided to get it outside an
  3. No didn't paint it because I tried and it looked crap! I couldn't get all the corners and bits square enough so it looked like bubble writing! Then I found a few pics of emblems with out it painted and that was good enough for me! The price you get these m-tec discs for is not much more than standard ones and I like to upgrade whenever I have to change the boring bits, didn't want drilled and grooved ones though as sometimes they're a bit noisy. Will get some drilled ones for the front eventually. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Looks like you've done a brilliant job there! Gonna surprise a few people when they hear that vr6 growl! Think it'd look good in factory colours under the bonnet, would look like it was there from day 1!
  5. Thanks, thought the wheels needed something looked a bit boring all silver! Got a close up today; The oven was empty at lunch today so as I had all of the mouldings and bits prepped thought I'd get a bit of paint on them; These turned up today,at £20.95 a pair delivered I thought they've got to sound better than the 18 year old originals, that flapped at the slightest hint of volume! Also got the rear brakes changed as the old ones were fooked,so replaced them with some m-tec drilled discs and mintex pads; Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Thanks mate looking forward to getting the paint on it now! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Good to see someone else saving one instead of breaking to make a couple of hundred quid! Hope it all goes well, as we all know it never does on our own motors when your in the motor trade!
  8. Yeah the hardest days work I've done for a long time! Don't tell my boss that though lol! Yeah wheels are staying silver, ford moondust to be exact as it's a nice fine bright silver, I've pretty much done black and gunmetal wheels and all the boys with there corsas and lupos have done all the other colours! They look like this now; The centre caps were a bit of a state when I got the wheels and I was going to buy a new set,but at over £150 for a set of metal ones with emblems I thought I'd have a go at restoring them, they looked like this when I got them; So I got my dremel out with tiny wi
  9. If you paint them Matt black they'll just look like an old set of steel wheels?
  10. Won my golf for peanuts off of eBay and the main reason was the clutch was f/^ck=d and it turned out to be the nylon bushes on the clutch pedal, £1.38 plus vat and 20 mins of laying under the dash and swearing later all sorted!! ;-)
  11. Sorry had to switch to my phone because the iPad hadn't picked all of the photos up,I hate technology and computers! Did the repairs on the face just a couple of bits of corrosion and curbing then red scotched the whole thing in with a bit of wheel cleaner added; Then once all prepped up get them in the oven and 2k primer them in and out; Then as I'm using solvent base coat (we usually use water based) I could cheat a bit and go straight on top of the primer with the colour only on the inside though; This makes it easier to make a nicer job of the face when it comes to painting them. I
  12. Yeah agree with that, all of the badges will be going back on,got no problem with people knowing what it is! Keep forgetting to get a couple of pics of the finished recess with the handle on. Got quite a bit done in the last few days, the rest of the car is now in primer as I used a day of holiday to try and push it along and took a couple of wheels home at the weekend and got most of the prep done on them,so managed to get 2 painted as the other 2 were still on the car. But at least I could get a before and after; I also rubbed down prepped primed and painted the inside of the wheels as the
  13. I've just seen that would love to know who's winning it! It'll probably be an idiot who doesn't pay and it'll be relisted next week! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Yeah, came across them by chance on a wheel trader group on Facebook! My target for this week is to get them refurbed, though they're not bad for a set of I think 20 something year old wheels!
  15. Once I was happy with the fit I got it cleaned up and tacked in place; Then got some sections trimmed up to fit the holes and got them tacked in then got the whole lot welded trying my best not to put to much heat through the panel; Got the welds ground down in case you hadn't noticed I've also got rid of the wiper but wanted to keep the badge; Had to a bit of heat shrinking as there were a couple of wobbles here and there, then feathered out all the rough edges and gave it a skim of finishing glaze; Then was priming something else so got it masked up and got some primer on it; Here's a co
  16. Hello mate, thanks for the compliments! The wheels are porsche wintercults apparently there was an option to have these as a set of winter wheels for your porsche 928... I think, if anyone knows better I'd love to know more! Didn't realise quite how rare they were until I got these. I've spent the last weeks worth of tea breaks and lunch breaks doing the number plate recess so here goes; I wanted this to have a real factory look,so it will probably only be us geeks and anoraks that'll ever notice it! And just to see if it was possible, I have still got the old tailgate if it all went tits u
  17. Started my number plate recess shortening mission this week by starting with the grab handle; Took an air hacksaw to it; Glued and plastic welded bits back together and ended up with this; Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Yeah I think buying the golf has made me realise that it's pretty much impossible to do anything original with a golf, so you're better off just doing what you like and if anyone else likes it, it's a bonus! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Any idea what wheels you want to go for yet?
  20. Looks nice! Got some serious recaro envy going on here!
  21. Looking good mate, similar rust issues as mine had, hope your sills are in better condition than mine though, what a mission! I reckon a set of hella twin headlamps would suit it down to the ground!
  22. Got a couple more bits done at the weekend including getting the paint stripped off of the bonnet, as it had been painted before and for some reason started to blister all over like this; There were loads of bonnets in red on eBay for £15, that could've had a quick rub down and paint but they were all at the top of Scotland or down in Cornwall!! So the old one was original and looked like it'd only been painted for stone chips so I stuck with it. Started by slopping on some paint stripper and covering it for a couple of hours; It did most of the work and the bonnet turned out to be very str
  23. Whilst repairing the quarter I rolled the rear arches, not sure if I needed to with the 195 tyres but thought it best as it's all getting painted and it should allow me to go lower;) started by cleaning back all of the thick factory sealer, zinc primed it and left it overnight, then put a smear of terason 6 in 1 body sealer around the inside. Then I used a hammer and dolly and got it as flat as it'll go, so it looked a bit like a mk4 golf rear arch, then I 2k primered it along with the damage on the quarter and smeared some more of the sealer around it to seal it and hopefully hold any rust b
  24. Made some progress over Christmas which started with sorting some tyres, decided to go for some continental 195/40r16's and got a pair of 35mm fk wheel adaptor/spacers. Wasn't sure if they would be a bit to big,but they seem to make the wintercults sit perfectly,so I'll get another pair, here's how they look; Also got some repairs done on the rear, though I kept forgetting to take photos! Hopefully it'll all make sense, when I bought the car it had a bit of damage on the near side rear quarter below the light, probably had been reversed into a post or something, you might be able to see some of
  25. Paid £140 for them, only seen one other set for sale recently and they were £250! They popped up on eBay as a buy it now, think they were only on there half an hour or so. I've polished them up with some plastic polish and they look like new now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
