  1. Thanks Pete that helps and makes it sound like a bit of a bargain, even if it does need a bearing, which I take are easy enough to get? I have tried looking it up but couldn't find much out about it, I'll find out if it's a v1 or v2. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Hi, have been offered a Vf engineering stage 1 supercharger kit for the golf and was basically wondering what people on here thought it was worth? I've had a look at it today and the only down point I could find if I was being very picky was a slightly noisy bearing, but they may always make a bit of a noise because tbh I've never had anything to do with superchargers, I've just always wanted to own one! I'm not after big power or anything as that's not what the golf is about for me,before everyone says buy turbo cause you can get 450bhp out it blah blah blah!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapat
  3. Tbh I might end up changing the headlamps if I can't find another n/s hella surround, might buy some new standard ones and smoke or Joey them and if I do that I'll get rid of the xenons, because I can't stand xenons with out the beam deflectors, coming towards you at night blinding everyone!! One of my pet hates!
  4. I'll have to stick another ballast on top of it lol! The xenons were only about £15 off of eBay so they'll probably only last 5 mins and I'll get bored and go back to standard bulbs anyway!
  5. There's no where else to hide them! Though at that moment when I stuck the ballast on with some really strong double sided tape I did think that if it dies I'm gonna have fun changing it! I have a bad habit of rushing stuff and always feeling the need to get things or projects done as fast as possible and end up doing things more than once and I'm doing my best not to do that with this one. Though I have just been offered a few go faster bits at a really good price, so it might not be finished and on the road as soon as I thought anyway!
  6. Yeah I'll do that on Monday for you mate,at least if you're painting it you can basically cut the hole then 'mate it have it' which is one of my boss' favourite sayings! Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Yeah not sure how your going to do that without it looking like a bit of a bodge. You planning on having the bumper painted again once you get them fitting? Could send you a couple of close up pics to help you get them in the right spot if that would help? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Another update, as you probably noticed went with the glass from the GL tailgate, ummed and arred for ages because I wanted the oe look but I just didn't like it, so no spoiler; Also got a top tinted front screen as it was only a few quid extra, so I thought why not; Then got the xenons wired in as neat as possible, all hidden whilst the bumpers off and got the side markers wired in,not the neatest I must admit but it works; Tried the US rear bumper on and it fits spot on; So got it prepped,it was a fully painted bumper but the top had been painted black at some point and it'd had a crap
  9. After replacing my front wings and the front sections of the sills on mine, I'd say a top tip would be take out the front splash guards and give it a good clean out and treat it with cavity wax or something. As you'd see from my build thread the previous owner of mine never did! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Yeah can't see why that wouldn't work, if you want to try and hold the rust back a bit longer it might be worth treating with something like jenolite first, used it on a few things and it works really well. Good to see someone else giving an old vr a bit of love! Keep it up mate!
  11. Remembered to take a few more pics of the progress today and also remembered when putting the skirts on that it had these protective strips along the top of the side skirt into the door shut; It was bugging me so tried TPS but they're obselete... Well it was worth a try! So straight on eBay and found this stuff anti slip waterproof tape for boats, skin friendly apparently! Worth a try so ordered some it was only cheap, cut a bit to size warmed it up as it's quite thick stuck it on and I think it looks ok; Aerial was looking a bit sorry for itself; So a new seal and a bit of matt black aerosol
  12. Definitely will be there on a few I hope mate, be good to put a few faces to the names! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. No it needs breaking up a bit! I'm sure it'll look better once the bumpers are on with the black lower spoilers, couldn't decide on which tailgate glass to put back in because I couldn't decide on spoiler or no spoiler! Thought the black spoiler might break it up a bit, but decided on no spoiler in the end..... Hope it all looks good when it's back together now!
  14. Another little update, got a few more little bits done over the last few days including using lots of this basically anywhere I can get it including doors, boot, chassis legs, sills, rear quarters ; Been collecting a few new bits over the last couple of months including these Also got 4 new bumper guides, moulding clips, aerial base, and loads of other bits n bobs. As you can probably guess I wanted to put the side skirts back on so started by re double siding the support strips and getting them stuck back on; Then all back on with the new strips and cleaned skirts that had about a 10 kilos of
  15. Nearly there with the polishing now,so started to fit it back up,got most of the rear end fitted up apart from the bumper as I'm hoping to get a US spec one, as I'm fed up with having bits of golf everywhere I go (home and work!) and I'm getting impatient and want to see what it's going to look like! So here's a couple of before and after pics; And a couple of others;
  16. Bit of a midweek update, been spending every minute I possibly can doing bits to the car,got the doors and tailgate painted on Monday evening as I was desperate to get them back on the car,as I hate having panels laying around the workshop because they end up getting damaged,in basecoat; Then laquer; One of the shortened recess; Then Tuesday 10 minute job to bolt them back on before work; Doors bolted straight on and fitted perfectly because they had dropped, so before all the painting etc I got them all adjusted up and closing nicely. These turned up £8 off of eBay ; Then started the small tas
  17. Thanks for the compliments! Had to make a nice job of it because I hope to be doing the vr6 owners club proud at a couple of shows this year! (-; Anyway popped down to work today to get it ready to push it out of the oven on Monday morning instead of going in early on Monday morning,as I'm trying not to let it take up to much work time....which will annoy my boss.Plus a mate of mine wanted to see it so that was a good enough excuse to go and get it on its wheels and take some pics; I think it's safe to say its gonna be a very clean old golf when it's finished! 18. Yeah going to be lots of polishing now, looks like I might be staying late a couple evenings this week! Learning how to paint isn't that hard it's having the equipment to do it properly that's the problem!
  19. Got a lot of the golf painted today, was hoping to paint everything apart from the bumpers but ran out of time and the pub next door to work was calling by 3 o'clock! So anyway this is what I got done, needed 2 or 3 hours more of stripping and prepping and got the doors and tailgate off, would have liked to have painted it with the doors and tailgate on but didn't want the paint edges in the shuts; Then got it into the oven and up on axle stands with the wheels off so I can get under the arches and sills etc, plus I didn't want overspray on my wheels! And got it masked panel wiped and tack cloth
  20. Booked the day off work tomorrow but going in to get it painted, I'll try to remember to take lots of photos! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Quick update of the prepping progress this week. First of all I decided to roll the front arches only slightly so that hopefully the wheels won't rub lock and if it does it won't rip chunks out of my nice new continentals! Or ruin the wing, but I wanted to keep the splash guards so I just rolled the top of the arch over a bit and the splash guards should still sit behind the lip, sorry about the crap photos! Hope you can make it out before; After; Finally got a longer bolt for the front engine mount, good old eBay! Then started blocking all of the flat areas with 240 grit, loving spending tea
  22. Looks good mate, mines done 170k as well you'd never guess it by driving it though, coilovers are probably pro-sports,eBay specials but me and a few mates have used them on different cars with no complaints.Mines got power flex rear bushes(came with them) and felt quite tight without being harsh even when I first got it on standard suspension. Oh and the airbag light will stay on, but you could possibly get the little panel on the dash with the light from a car that never had airbags? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I quite like them with the black surrounds, but I will try colour coding the auto art ones, might look good with the smoked hella lenses. Got me thinking now, I'm gonna try it this week! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. The black ones are auto art ones, yeah the first thing I did was sand down and polish the auto art word out as well! This will explain it, see the broken bit on the n/s smoked one.
