  1. Yeah just means getting the air con system drained/refilled
  2. Okay thanks. Will check after work and get the opinion of a couple of mates before I can get to a garage for a sniffer test. Can the oil cooler be changed without removing the whole front end?Seems quite tight for space
  3. I replaced the rad and did a full coolant flush within the last 6months, not exactly sure when. The oil cooler is something that I need to look at but have been waiting as I would want to get the whole front end off but have air con that needs draining
  4. What symptoms would I be looking at if exhaust gases were mixing with the coolant? I have lost some coolant over a long-ish drive and cant seem to put my finger on an external leak. The car hasnt overheated, I monitor both oil and coolant temps. The oil filler cap looks like this after a short drive, coolant up to temp oil not. (could be condensation): I havent checked the dipstick yet but will after work. Through the bottle the coolant appears to have an orange/brown layer on top, again I havent checked as only just turned the engine off. I know the best thing to do is take it to a g
  5. Cannot rate this bit of kit highly enough. Good reduction in throw and feels much tighter
  6. I run 8's all round. They started like as mk4/bora/beetle steels at et42 and are now et24ish. Much more than 8.5 and I think they would poke and rub on the arch. Depends how low you are
  7. I'd like to attempt everything myself besides the head work. I'm going to keep an eye out for cans and hang on for a little. But the work will start if I see the signs of HG or chain rattle gets worse
  8. Don't some have M12 bolt holes? I may be wrong,I'm sure I read this somewhere
  9. All very helpful. Was going to throw some cams into the works as well but will need to save longer for that
  10. Can't wait to mine. I am in line for one
  11. Looking into doing cams aswell but it may all have to wait as cams are pricey new
  12. Cheers. Already in my watch list on eBay where I'm trying to keep track of what to buy (not necessarily to buy on eBay)
  13. Thanks. Gives me more to research. All helpful stuff
  14. Good idea. Will tape up and label all connectors too. What is required to rebuild the head? And I will do sump and sump bolts aswell
  15. Spot on thanks mate. I need to get my head around it all and do some reading. Between me and some mates I'm sure it's do-able. Need to get the aircon system discharged too
  16. Thinking about a little engine overhaul on my golf and hoping for some advice. The chains are starting to rattle so I'm thinking of doing them and I might as well do some other bits whilst it's apart. So far my list is; Chains Chain guides Head gasket Clutch Flywheel (possibly lightened) Crack pipe Thermostat and housing Oil cooler/seals (maybe external w/ thermostat) Plugs and leads Anyone think of anything I've missed (probably something really obvious) or and tips, hints or links worth a read? Thanks in advance
  17. Where did you get the rest of the kit?
  18. Looks like I will be in touch. There's a couple other bits I want like weld in sump baffles
  19. I didn't really want to delete the stock for those reasons but would like to cool oil for track days. Does keeping the stock item cause clearance issues?
  20. I have been looking into doing some track days in my VR6 and thinking about getting an oil cooler. I would get one with a thermostat as its a daily driver. Do you have to delete the original? Do the kits that get sold require additional parts, ie spacers etc? What about the pipes off the crack pipe if original is deleted? Anyone have any pros/cons to fitting an external oil cooler? Thanks
  21. Just going through bushes ball joints etc at the moment.
