  1. The smoke could be from the misfire. But like Paul mentioned it could be anything.
  2. How much modification does the skids backbox require to fit?
  3. well as i posted earlier last week i was having slight problem with my water building too much pressure, but today i drove it felt the pipes and everything is fine. when i first got the car it only ran on 4 cylinders so new coil pack, leads, and plugs and it bit my head off when i put my foot down. but after a few weeks its feeling underpowered like if i give it some it just shouts and feels like my 8v did. its had a new maf expect im not sure how to test the maf on obd2 as i have heard it dosent cut the engine out. theres no leaks between TB and MAF. another thing is when around town and i ge
  4. Yh I don't see why not as long as you make sure nothing is attached to the head before you try lifting it.
  5. In that case I would give it a clean. I heard that this causes alot of running problems on obd1 motors.
  6. I shall give them a call then. What advantages are there over using standard gaskets to metal ones ?
  7. You had any problems with the bolts or they holding fine?
  8. My moneys on coilpack or loose vac pipe. Very common amongst vr's
  9. Well I don't really want to have to take it off again. I have seen some on eBay but they come from America.
  10. Right I have come to the conclusion my head gasket is on it's way out, White smoke from exhaust quick coolant warm up and building alot of pressure. So my question is what is needed for head gasket change? Am I right in thinking: head gasket head bolts(how much am I looking for arps check head for warpage check valves etc for wear and tear I'll look at the chains too. Is this all?
  11. Well I have started using the gti one since I lost the vr cap omewhere along the road during the conversion.
  12. Recently I have been having issues related to cooling.the other day I mentioned oil in my water but this was due to my mum using my bucket for something else grrr. Anyway the past few weeks my aux water pump makes a strange sound like it's letting off pressure like squeal. And my radiator hose gets rock solid when upto temp. I have changed the thermostat changed the coolant changed the oil no signs of a head gasket like no Mayo under filler cap etc. I poured water into the rad when it was off the car and no leaks there. So what's the problem has the aux water pump had it and causing a blockage
  13. would a 2mm steel spacer be suitable? and what else do i need?
  14. do you have to be 21 to be with them ?
  15. ahh right then if its head gasket then its been decided i go low comp but i think my aux water pump could be causing the excessesive pressure in my cooling system, i refilled the coolant and found no oil in there touch wood.
  16. Excellent seller, quick to respond to pm's and quick to deliver. Will buy off him again (if he sells something I want of corse) all in all I'm happy.
  17. so would this be suitable ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260558750955&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  18. was the lump harder to start due to lower compression on cold days or hotter days im just trying to weigh up all my options.
  19. Well seeing as I may be doing the headgasket in the near future I was thinking of upgrading to arp bolts etc. but I was thinking could I use a spacer gasket on the head and lower the compression ratio. As I wouldn't mind going boost at some point. I was just wondering can a n/a engine cope with lowered compression what are the pros and cons of this?
  20. Haha neh i wasn't going to pour cold water in. Anyway the engine is cold now so I guess it's keep filling up until the water runs clear? And hopefully going to check the oil cooler tonight see if there is anything visual I can see wrong. If I need a new one I'll keep you in mind
  21. Well bugger me was that all haha it's always the little things that get over looked but well done pal glad it's all sorted.
