  1. honestly you can pick up a good vr for relatively little money compared to other cars. you would spend a small fortune converting a mk2, if your patient you would pick up a mk2 vr6 that's already been done. a lad on here not long sold his mk2 vr6 for £2500..
  2. Lol that was HOT, Now that's a case where a bonnet scoop would actually be a good idea.
  3. All post 1992 cars had to have Cat's by law and as the Vr6 line started in 92 then yes they all have Cat's.
  4. if the bonnet locks closed and opens properly then it will pass an MOT as long at the edges aren't sticking out loads
  5. I didnt know that ODBII's dont have an ISV. The EGR runs directly from the exhaust to the inlet manifold somewhere, or at least the ones I have seen have. I personaly dont like them because it reduces power and not adds it in the strictest sense. It will reduce combustion chamber temps which reduces NOx but it also dilutes your air-fuel mixture with unmetered air so you get a weaker explosion thus less power. Its purpose is to send exhaust gasses back through the intake system to be re-burnt. This in itself will line the inside of the intake with exhaust which will also distrupt the air flow
  6. Oh I didn't realise ODBII did'nt have one, My apologies.
  7. Vr's do idle low anyway, when mines warm it ticks over at around 500rpm. I don't really know what to say about your flat spot, how far does it go on the revs?
  8. Hey Goguvarra, From you're other thread I think your problem is that you're ISV valve has been removed and bypassed. If that is the case then get one fitted back in and all should be well. Cheers Dave
  9. The bottom right circled part is the Aux water pump witch on you're car has been removed and bypassed (probably due to failure and the last owner didn't want to pay to replace it). The 2nd circled part in the middle is part of the EGR system, it is a stupid "environmental" system that esentually pipes exhaust gasses back into the inlet manifold to bring down emissions. the last circled part top left is the idle stabilisation or air control valve (ISV) The EGR system is not fitted to all Vr6 models, My 94 Vr doesn't have one and in my opinion its better off without them for obvious reasons. As
  10. it is normal, with such a big engine crammed into a small engine bay the heat soak through the firewall is a common problem. I remember reading about it when I was researching the vr6 before I bought one.
  11. I'll come and say hello being as I live in Nuneaton

  13. Yes that Helicoil kit will do the trick mate, or just take the head to your local machine shop and they will be able to sort it no problem

  15. when the car is running its on the MFA, press the button on the right column leaver until the LCD screen displays the oil temp. Just so you know it wont read anything until your oil gets to 80 degrees i think it is
  16. I guess it all depends on how much of a bastard the copper is.
  17. I would of took the car and not payed him a penny, then phoned the police when I got home lol. this "mechanic" is a crook.
  18. Yep, I feel your pain and its a pain in the arse.
  19. if its jumping out of gear then its a gearbox problem like the thread title suggests not a worn clutch.
  20. I have the same problem but haven't got round to sorting it yet. I don't know what's involved yet but I did the same job on a mk2 gti witch was a relatively easy job, just replacing joints and bushes.
  21. I pulled this off Elsawin today, hope it helps.
  22. Most likely the front engine mount mate, its a relatively easy job. if it was your drive shafts then it would only really do it when accelerating while turning. I test this by getting a friend to sit in the car with the hand brake on and lift the clutch to stress the mounts and see how much they move, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoDfmowLnes The guy in this vid was a bit vicious with the clutch though lol.
