Goodridge or Blackdiamond Braided Brake Hoses
Lukey. replied to *P3nfold*'s topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
goodridge dont have to be expensive http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-Golf-VR6-Goodridge-Braided-Brake-Hose-Kit-/290296299943?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43970201a7 same price as any black diamond i can find. A quick google and ebay seems you pretty much pay £70 for any of them I have HEL on mine theyre all the same thing, much improved pedal feel and braking power, i only have to touch them and they are there, if i stand on them its uncomfortable how quick they respond. You need to make sure if you have banjo or screw fronts, 280mm brakes is screw, 288m -
Are these tooo budget!?!?!??

Wasnt a popular suspension mod to keep the stiffer VR6 springs to take the weight of the engine and put the harder GTI dampers on? As the VR6 dampers were more motorway cruiser than B road thrasher? Talking of the standard items i mean. -
More often than not my engine takes quite a long time to start, maybe 5 seconds of cranking, once started its absolutely fine and when it does fire up it does burst into life it doesnt chug and crawl into action, it just can take a while to get fired up. It usually takes longer once the car is warmed up then parked for an hour or so then started again. My thinking was fuel pump or filter but the fact that its fine when started and goes like it should under the hammer im thinking theyre fine. I also thought could it be plugs or leads not giving good spark? I have seen mentioned on vortex that

Cheers mate, all the comments after my hard work are appreciated :-D Not that ive noticed no, and i went a fair way to croft circuit, bout 100 miles, with a bootfull and 4 adults in the car and it only caught once on the inner edge of the arch lip, just got the dreaded scrape sound and there was a faint line on the offside tyre when i got out and had a look.

the noise at 2:26 had me cringeing a bit |-)

wall of death ones funny, he rides the vertical walls without a helmet then puts it on to climb the ladder

i am like the battered wife of my car, through taking it all to bits and putting it back together ive shed more blood than i have sweat. no tears, but plenty of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Yb_pGo1OWY&feature=related lol

my window did that and i fully dismantled the regulator, the cable was wound up over itself on the reel inside the motor, after re-assembly it works smooth, maybe try this. You definitely will cut yourself to shreds doing this though lol
-
in that case i would watch the coolant levels and condition and also the condition and levels of the oil for a while see if you have any cross contamination. Youll either see oily coolant or creamy oil and it could use it up if theres an issue

dont know the part no i just said i needed the plastic clip from the clutch pedal and showed the guy what it was on the etka drawing in vw. like pearsy said they are literally pence. mine was broken in 2, most people say that if it isnt broken you will probably break it trying to get it back on

I was with Chris Knott this last year and they were the best at £535 that was 24 4yrs NCD no accidents no convictions all mods declared. I got their renewal figure, which im now 25 5yrs NCD no accidents no convictions. It was £600. I shopped around, tried sky £580 even with 20% off. Adrian flux £600, brentace £580 Then I rang greenlight and got £397 my gf as an extra driver at no extra charge, i opted to protect my NCD for £30 so all in was £427. £150 cheaper than anyone else!! And if i ever add schrick cams, VGI and remap mid policy its just £25 extra. I budgeted £700 to insure an

I think it pretty much is done for now, until the engine goes either bang or clatter and it needs a rebuild. Then id prob add a schrick VGI, 268 cams and accompanying remap. Of course id like to go forced but its just too expensive on this engine. Id rather keep the VR6 NA and get a pre 01 20VT S3 aswell
-
no its just condensation and oil vapour its fine, it will gas you in the car but your engine is ok lol
-
if youre going to take the pedal out anyway you might as well just weld a better plate onto your existing pedal, i did this when it happened to me, the stock pedal as it comes is only spot welded with tiny welds, its an obvious weak point, you only need to make a better job of it and it will never happen again

Service time - recommendations please
Lukey. replied to deanpompey's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
i used millers oils in my PD VAG cars and it was brilliant stuff, but i switched to synta as its as good as any and dead cheap. I think half the problem with thinner oils being specified for the VR6 is VWs specification method, where any oil of a higher number than the spec you require is acceptable as it "meets or exeeds" but putting 5w30 in a VR6 it will drink it in no time its far too thin -
its steam
-
are you welding? zinc primer is weld through which is supposed to add more protection too
-
seems to vary by company but for the most part there are specific eatate and hatchback variants, unless its a syncro then theres one kit for hatch/estate

How low to take coilovers sensibly?
Lukey. replied to VR6-DUB's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
im prob not as low as any of the guys here but i run 17s so my car would be about an inch higher off the ground to begin with, i have them just set so theres a finger width between the tyre and arch and have no driveability or clearance issues. The height at the centre (lowest point) of the front splitter is 13cm and at the bottom of the lip on the front jacking points 11cm. All arches are 60cm level. The way i set mine up was when fitting them get them something like and after a few weeks re adjust them after theyve bedded in. i havent adjusted them since and they havent drooped any more. -
Coolant hose part no (pics inside)

have you seen the price of that run from VW? when my T piece split they wanted something ridiculous like £65 just for the bigger diameter section of piping, from the rad to the block. only reason im saying is if it was a shed load to buy that run of piping id get samco itll last forever -
i used hadrian panels and they were quite accurate, i didnt have to alter them to fit

After all this hard work my D-Day came, MOT time. The car flew through without even the hint of an advisory, i would have hoped not after all the work i did but its awesome to know that it actually did. The tester even commented when examining the chassis, first thing he said under the car was "ooh this has had some money spent on it hasnt it" then "and a fair bit of time and care" when he said that i felt quite proud i can tell you

i did my rear arches and sills myself, i wouldnt say it was a small job. mainly as you ideally want to strip the interior so safeguard against fire. i have lots of pics of what i did here http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?344740

you have to remove the front bumper to take the front wings off
