Hi the G60 FW doesnt fit the VR6 (MK3 12V) VR's have a 10 bolt pattern G60 are 6 bolts. there is a mod for the MK4's to change the dual mass to a single which requires the G60 FW/clutch combo. As Pete said, GSF or Euro's for clutch. regards steve

Hi, do you mean the infamous PCV valve? Top left corner of crankcase into concertina (PCV) then into plastic intake before throttle? If so then Pete is right, looks like a sensor but isn't, I haven't blanked mine and don't know the pro's and cons are but some people use a catch can, it basically passes excess gas from crankcase back into intake to reduce emissions. Regards Steve

Hi all, as always I am looking for a cheap mod, can it be done? Is it worthwhile? Or should I sell my daughter for a shrick mani? Cheers Steve

hesitation and over fueling
ssaunders replied to jayeshjethwa's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hi, I have had loads of over fuelling issues that didn't flag on vag com and after changing every thing it was a thermostat issue. Apologies if you have checked this, my last 3 post replies have been all the same to same sort of issues, over fuelling, garage's have no clue they change all the sensors and scratch their heads, if you have checked and changed everything then it's back to basics, and the stat is basic of basic. If your going to change it I would suggest to get the plastic cover as well as the stat as 15-20 year old VW plastic is crap. Just changed my crack pipe at 120K and it fell -
Hi, can you let me know how you get on with vibration etc as this is something I am looking at doing but have heard that poly's can change cabin noise and ride harshness. Cheers Steve
-
Hi mate, had same'ish issue, over fuelling no faults in vag com replaced all of Pete's suggestions, had black exhaust and real crap mpg all the time with rich exhaust, turns out it was dodgy thermostat. If you can vag-com it look for water temp settings as I believe they should change when the stat opens. My issue was stat half open and engine never getting properly warm and seemed to run on choke all the time (very slow to drop back to idle, ie stop at red light and idle would drop from 2K to 900'ish in minutes not seconds) MAF issues can be diagnosed with unplugging it and no change, blue t

Engine mounts, fast road and comfy? Advice needed.
ssaunders replied to ssaunders's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Thanks all, Pete, 133+ vat each even with 10% is too much (just done best part of 1200) on clutch GB etc, so looking for cheaper (as good, I know I am dreaming!) and the bfi kit all in from regal is 120, reading some comments they seem ideal for what I want (fast road) not as much harshness as full poly (1-2) but stronger(.5) compared to standard (.45 Swiss cheesed) I have fallen foul of buy cheap buy twice before but am always looking for a deal. Also love my 3.68, car now drives as I believe it should have done from factory, sh1t off shovel! Cheers Steve -
ABS kicking in when not braking
ssaunders replied to ssaunders's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Hi, UM. No the brakes don't apply but you can here the pump 'pulsing'? Occasionally when it kicks in on braking (which it has) it restricts pedal travel etc and I am losing confidence in late braking 'just in case' it kicks in when I am not expecting it. I can only associate it with the new discs and pads I had fitted on the front 2 months ago (by competent mechanic) I know too much wheelspin (which never happens ;-) can light the ABS, and I know there is a recurring fault apparently with most VW ABS units 90's to early 2000's on all models as I had mine remanufactured here http://www.bba- -
ABS kicking in when not braking
ssaunders replied to ssaunders's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Cheers Pete, to save me from digging through the vag com blocks do you know which ones measure wheel speed? Cheers Steve -
Hi all, while driving I can sometimes hear the abs pump kicking in, it also does it sometimes under light braking when not needed. Any suggestions? No CEL. The unit has been remanufactured as I was getting the abs light on constantly. Cheers Steve

black spark plugs? running rich but why?
ssaunders replied to cpfcvr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hi, mine was running rich, stank of petrol and took ages to settle to idle, vag com said no issue turned out it was dodgy thermostat, changed blue sensor and nearly everything else. Give it a look. Good luck. Steve -
Hi all, I am noticing a lot of engine movement since changing final drives and need advice on mounts. I know you can go poly but I am led to believe they can be harsh which is not what I want, could these be a happy medium? http://www.regal-shop.co.uk/vw/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eregal%2dshop%2eco%2euk%2fvw%2facatalog%2fBasic_Products%2ehtml&WD=vr6&PN=Stealth%2dSeries%2d%2ehtml%23a10788#a10788 Or can anyone recommend some thing? Do you change front, back and gearbox or mix and match? Cheers for looking Steve

Hi Mate, GSF do them for 95 quid. they are a bit fiddly to fit and use the daft hose clips which could be swapped for jubilees and sit in a rubber ring that attaches to the block, took me half hour. lots of people delete them as all it does is circulate water round the head for 10 minutes after ignition off but i suppose its there for a reason. http://www.gsfcarparts.com/170vg0380 good luck steve

hi all, been quoted 260 + vat for OEM or 190 for febi, can get OEM from fourseasons.com for $210 + shipping and maybe vat and duty. I need opinions on the quality of both. cheers steve

Hi all, I have tried to bleed all the air from system by leaving it running with cap off for about 20 minute but still get a gurgling noise behind dash on switch off! Sounds like the old girl has indigestion! It doesn't seem to hurt its just annoying. I know it's the secondary pump, does it just pump round the head or whole system on switch off? Cheers for any suggestions. Steve

Hi all, I have a 96 VR which has the above problem. Heater matrix was done last year so not that. It doesn't do it all the time, first time was about 4 months ago and I cleaned a couple of leaves from the scuttle and fine till yesterday, got in and about an inch of water was slopping about!. Can someone give me an idea where the drains are for sunroof and door? Or any other suggestions. A friend suggested that the foam round the air intake perishes and it gets in there, is that a possibility? Also I changed rear passenger regulator about 3 months ago and noticed corrosion on the motor a clue?
