Hi, i think you will find that the diesel 5th will go in without having to remove the gearbox, you can get to it from\through the passenger wheel arch. here is link with pics for swap. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/multi/5th-gear-swap-VW.htm i am doing the same thing with mine, if you google vw gear calc you will find a great little program that allows you to fiddle about with ratios and gives you gear/rpm/speed. mine has a drone between 2300-2800 rpm so i have a .756 set coming from the US, this will put 5th gear back to stock. you could go further and put a MK3 diesel which is .717, thi

HID's what kit do you have? and is it any good?

Hi All, got this from the AA website in regards to MOT HID headlights can cause dazzle if they are dirty or aimed too high, so they are generally (if light output exceeds 2000 lumens) fitted in conjunction with headlamp cleaning and levelling systems. Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted the tester will switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted. notice the word 'generally' fitted with cleaning\levelling if these dont work its a fail, but if my car wasnt generally fitted with them how can it fail? has anyone had a failur -

Hi all, go the covers off and no huge holes (thx Lukey could feel the prayers!) no holes at all actually, the jacking points at the front are the problem the edges have been bent and the outer sill is almost coming away, so what is the score? Chop out and weld in new? Any suggestions (or horror stories) welcomed. Cheers And if there is space see you at stealth. Steve

Hi Pete, i wish i had the money to! it will have to be the bum dyno on way home. regards s just checked the only Bas Vegas road is at silverstone this weekend and the one in rayleigh wants £50 a run. s -
Hi Mate, pop the panel off and take a look. there are a couple of long screws around the door handle/rest, the window button cover just clips in but be careful as you can mark it, unplug window button. undo the door lock pin and speaker connections. all round the edges are plastic clips, it is possible to not break them but i have not found out how! you can then lift the whole panel off and out, underneath is a plastic cover that is glued to the metal, peel that off and take a look. to test pop the button from the door card and connect, you should see what the issue is. the motor just slides

Cheers lukey, I have skived off work this afternoon and the plot thickens, I was all ready to climb through the window but tried the fob and voila the locks open, pulled the pump out and it's dry as a bone. I have taken it apart and cleaned with PCB cleaner and its working fine. The question is was it the pump? If not what the hell else! Cheers Steve
-
Thanks guys, it looks to be a pump issue, the fob by the look of it deadlocks the doors so i cant open them, looks like i will be climbing through the window as turning the key anti clockwise opens the windows! next issue is that there are multiple part numbers i have been quoted 250 for this one 1H0 962 257 G from VW, can anyone shed some light on the differences? im guessing its the connector for the vacuum hose. thanks again steve

Hi all, gone to get in the VR this morning and I can't. The fob does flash the lights but no unlock, key lifts the button in drivers and passengers but still can't open them, same for boot. I can't get in to check the pump in the boot (suspect) all help gratefully received. Cheers Steve
