Progress has been a bit slow lately. To much going on at home and work.

I started putting the front back on. Connected up the coolant pipes to the radiator and put the headlight loom back in. Also ran new fuel lines from the fuel pressure regulator to the fuel rail. I'm hoping to have the car running again over the weekend.

I bought a spare vr6 fuel pump and while at work today i'm going to attempt to fit the uprated pump in to the vr6 pump housing.

Cheers chaps just moved in to a new house so things could get even slower as will be pretty busy with that but saying that new house has a garage and the girlfriend says she wants me to get the first stage of the car done so I can work on it at home incase something happens to me whilst up at the barn
And true to her word she let me go up to the barn for a day the wkd we moved in! Managed to get the head on and the new chains tensioners on hopefully it's all timed up right! Will stick some pics up soon
Also had my first tig welding lesson at college managed to do a good weld first ever attempt shocking the tutor then spent the rest of the lesson trying in vain to replicate it

Russvrt reacted to Cooz93 in 256mm rear DIY
Thought I'd do a write up for a 256mm conversion as I've just done one to my mk3 and finding answers wasn't the easiest.
    What you'll need.
256mm brake set up. Discs, pads, carrier, calliper. Probably from a mk4 golf.
    Polo 9n stub axles - PN 6Q0 501 117
    Polo 9n rear hubs - PN 6Q0 598 611
    Banjo type brake lines
Next part, you can either saw off the axle spacers from a polo 9n like I did, pictures below, with the rough edge milled flat.

Or you can buy lupo gti axle spacers. P/N are 6E0501465A for left and 6E0501466A for right.
You'll will also need longer stub axle bolts and longer calliper carrier bolts. Both need to be about 10mm longer.
First off remove the current set up, including callipers, carriers, disks etc etc. you'll be left with nothing mounted to the rear beam.
Attach the polo 9n stub axle to the rear beam with the spacer in between..

It's an idea to bore out the holes on the spacers to the bolts don't pick up on the spacer thread and stop you getting a proper fit to the beam.
Mount up the hub and disk to the stub axle..
And then mount the new 256mm carrier.
From what I've heard, if the brake set up is from a 4motion, you will need a small spacer between carrier and axle spacer like I have. I can't comment on the non 4motion set up!
Either way, this is how it will look with carrier and spacer attached..

I've used washers here for a quick fix, but for a permanent solution a spacer plate should be made up.
The calliper will then mount in the same way the originals did.. This picture was also taken before I drilled out the holes so the spacer wasn't flush with the rear beam, hence why the carrier looks so closed to the disc..

And now the set up is complete.
Thought I'd finish this off for people using abs.
First, you'll need to cut a 'V' into the polo 9N stub axle, where the original abs sensor will fit. After this, you'll need to weld a small bit of pipe into this channel to hold the abs sensor.. Picture below. Be careful with spacing. I used a 0.8 or 1mm shim on the abs sensor to make sure the gap was correct

To make the original mk3 abs ring fit, you will need so shim it out. I done this by making a ring to fit over the polo 9N hub, about 2/2.5mm thick. When this is in place the abs ring should be a nice snug fit. Make sure you clean all parts before measuring, as my first attempt ended in failure.. Picture of shim under abs ring..

If anyone has any picture request/help/further input feel free to comment.
    Cheers:)

I've been slacking with getting more bits done on the car recently. Been driving it daily and enjoying it very much indeed . Engine is run in nice and pretty much ready to be mapped. Covered nearly 1000 miles in less than a week.
So time move on to the next steps now. Ordered up some brackets today which will allow me to run the Cupra R Brembo calipers up front. Does anyone know if the brake lines would be the same for a Cupra R and a VR6?

    Hi all,

Iv been a member for a while but have never really posted anything, so thought I would introduce myself and my car.

    Im Jake and I drive a 1989 tornado red mk2 golf vr6.

Iv owned the car for 2 years now and absolutely love it, but as the new year is coming, so are a few changes, so all of your advice and opinions would be much appreciated.

The cars heart is a 2.8 vr6, standard engine with stainless exhaust, engine bay is in need of some attention as it is untidy, so the plans for the new year is to take the engine out and get the bay painted as well as cleaning and touching up the engine.

The car is static ride on coilovers sitting on bbs rm 15" split rims, 8.5j at the front and 9j at the rear.

Unsure on what the intiror has been took out off but they are full leather recaros, these will be up for sale soon with all door cars as I have replacement interior to get re trimmed. So will be pictures to follow.

I have just purchased a heckblend and some retro vinyl stipes for the side, once fitted i will upload some photos.

Here is my pride and joy.

I am trying to track down the following parts at the moment.

90 spec 3 door door cards with chrome trim.
    Smooth scuttle panel.
    Chrome door handle inserts.

And I am also looking for any recommendations on upholsterers in the Midlands area to get my seats and door cards (when I find some) to be trimmed.

Recently had a full paint correction from my mate at Detailed by dale taken out to sort out some swirls and faded areas, and I was over the moon with the results. The car came out looking like it just rolled out the paint shop. Fantastic workmanship and a top lad. If any of you are looking into this, I would highly recommend him, Detailed by dale is on facebook if any of you ever care to come across his page.

Here are some of the pictures when I picked her up.

Thankyou for reading, Would appreciate peoples advice and opinions, going to get to some shows next year and hopefully get on a few clubs stands and meet some of you.

    Thanks again

    Jake

Got round to doing a bit more on the car last night. Started off with cleaning off the top of the pistons. Should have really done that while the pistons were off but hey ho! Then put in the ARP headbolts into the block. Next got out 1 of the headgaskets which I bought 2 of and realised that its a 3 part head gasket. Wish Vince had told me that! I would not have needed to buy 2. So I separated the sections and put on the bottom section then my spacer plate and then the top section of the head gasket.

    Pistons before:

    Pistons after plus headbolts on:
