    brand new coilpack, i didnt do service so i will have to check, i have magnecours on, do you think i should check the coilpack for cracks first to make sure, as i know they are super unreliable? thanks for your quick response.

    my vr6 golf has been running like a bag of spanners, its fine when you start up, becomes almost unresponsive, backfires now and again. shows up on VAGCOM as a idle speed problem, Read on here could have something to do with the MAF so i bought a new one, no change. It is particuraly bad on the motorway when wanting to select a lower gear, the sound is almost a drone, the revs move up but no power. it is at times like driving a car with very bad turbo lag.     I know that Cornwall is generally regarded as the retirement home for most VWs but, bleeding hell, i must of seen about 6 or 7 on the main drag in Penzance, in the space of 5 days, I drove from Manchester in mine on a family jaunt, close to 1300 miles in all, there and back, plus i got stuck in that traffic on the m5 on are way back for 9 hours, cos some bloke wanted to do hinself in on the Avonmouth bridge.

    if your clocks are resetting the likely hood is that its the battery, does it also seem to sound slower the central locking, as if its straining, probly again the battery. not 100% but thats what i think.

    i defo had a head gasket problem, car had service history, took it to my pals, who ran the relevant tests and diagnosed the head gasket problem. i bought a 2nd hand engine for 400 with only 43000 miles on the clock, the car had lived its life on jersey, had a small prang and was made a write off(to my benefit) its in the garage now as we speak being fitted. good luck in resolving yor problem.

    thats what got quoted, apparently they have to add new equipment such as timing chains, to guarantee their work
