  1. I've got a mk3 dragon green VR and looking at having my original BBS standard wheels re-furbed then sprayed up. I am keen for a gun-metal or black finish, my friends are doubting my choice any thoughts? In the meantime if anyone can upload some pics of Dragon Green Mk3's with any wheel in black/grey that would help my choice even more!
  2. sounds good, well i'll head on down there for around 2:30 with a few other enthusiasts! got some good A roads on the way so will give the VR a good thrash on the way!
  3. is this free for all to turn up to the heritage museum, i'm only in Birmingham so will happily meet all peeps there? anyone know what time you will all be getting up to the heritage museum too?
  4. if you want i have a got a spare plastic rocker cover form the later VR's, changed mine to the alloy one recently. let me know if you are interested.
  5. superb that is brilliant! once again many thanks, i'll have to upload some pics once it is all back together!
  6. just one last thing, does the old rocker cover 100% fit, i presume that you need to screw all the studs in, then sit the cover on top and then tighten the nuts up to secure, slightly different to the newer plastic cover as it was just bolts that went all the way through.
  7. Yeh - 2hr job; see post I did last year; also worth doing tensioner and belt at the same time. C£110 for parts from GSF
  8. nice one, feel like i keep messing you about iwth it now, just cant wiat to get my car running again and desperately need these bolts for it!
  9. does anyone know the part numbers for these bolts? anyone with ETKA mind checking it out for us?
  10. right then, i got the gaskets sorted yesterday, but all the bolts are different too i believe, not sure where to go for these? any ideas?
  11. where do i get all this from? any ideas on part numbers?
  12. I am in the process of polishing my mani & rocker cover. I have currently got a plastic rocker cover buit have a fresh alloy one to put one instaed, i have noticed that the bolts re different and gasket, where do i get these from, is the alloy one compatible, it is all genuine VAG stuff and i was informed it is a straight swap, just a bit concerned about the bolts and gasket!
  13. Think what you are seeing is Aux water pump [electrical]. Real one is on drivers side and original ones are notorious for loosing plastic vanes and bearings going ending up with your car sounding like a tank! Replace pump, belt and tensioner in c2hrs and £100 from GSF. I put post up a while ago on how to do this Cheers
  14. Other common problem is corded wire on starter motor corrodes through.
  15. Sounds as though new coil unit should be first item to replace. Mine went down on Cyl5 and it sounded awful! New part £120 from GSF and runs sweeter than ever1 Good luck
  16. Rad is £80 from GSF and sounds like you need new coil which is £120! Rad is easy 2hr job but with aircon you will need to get it repressurised after refit Good luck
  17. i've got a BMC filter from my old 8v, cant afford the CDA just yet but will be looking too somepoint in 09?!?! IS it ok to fit the old one on for the time being without it causing too many problems?
  18. Had same problem and sorted with GSF leads for £50 [with Vr6 discount] and they have been great. They do seem to get bad press from other members but I have no probs. Month later coil went so only running on 5; fitted GSF replacement [£120!!!] and has run sweet ever since.
  19. Had same problem too and fixed with Wynns equivalent of Radweld - worked fine then water pump failed [bearings shot and no vanes] When fitted new one better flow blew rad so had to fit new one from GSF - 2hrs work. Now perfect. Also thermo housing is prone to cracking. You can usually tell where leak is coming from as dried antifreeze leaves tell tale white splashes
  20. Waterpump/aux belt/tensioner and starter motor are popular items - oh just done radiator akk since April at c114k. Autobox is not supposed to get past 90k!
  21. I always find GSF to be fine and sometimes if the guy is lazy they give you 25% off as this is trade and easier to do than VR6 10%!
  22. Took me about three hours including trip to GSF as it is an exchange unit c£100 with VR^ owners club discount. It is usually the braid which corrodes through - if you have an auto electrician/alternator/starter repair man near you it will be a lot less!
  23. Thanks - problem in the end was the radiator so just spent today replacing it with GSF part. Seems sweet now
