  1. Yeah - bought mine in April and identified 'whirring' niose around alternator which progressively got worse. Diagnosed as pulley tensioner but when removed as well as this item being gone water pump bearing was shot too. When removed - use forum guides - vanes had also diappeared off pump.All this is apparently common VR6 issues - new parts c£75 from GSF and took c2hrs to fit along with new belt - now running sweet!   2. Had my VR6 since April and just luv it with only mechanicals being changing water pump/belt tensioner which forum guides were great. However with all this wet weather get missfire on startup which takes ages to disappear and notice a lot of arking on HT leads both at distributor cap and plug ends which WD40 only eliminates for a short while. Is this a common problem and what are best replacements? Also understand a special tool is recommended to remove plug leads - where do you get these from? Cheers Tim
  3. Just completed this job in c2hrs; couldn't have done it without VR6Petes posts particularly in using a wood chisel to separate the pump from the block. No impellor blades left and then chucked off tensioner pulley so only bearig left! Only thing I did differently was separate the front engine mount by removing single top bolt rather than 3 lower bolts. Car is transformed from sounding like a tank to a refined V6 [with nice Miltek exhaust] Great website/forum Cheers
  4. If anyone is interested i have got a Remus backbox, exactly the same as the one on this post for sale, it came on my VR when i bought it, but i have got a full stainless cat bak Milltek. I am looking at anything around £150 for it, just let me know, i can post pics if any one requests. thanks,

  6. Really need to know if i need to remove the rear mount to do this job. Also, part no for non-aircon belt - this one has7K1290 on it and its made by ROULUNDS ROFAN
  7. is it the rear mount as well as the front mount, if so how do you access the rear mount?
  8. right bought a new tensioner today and just fitted it, then realised that is the water pump cog that is broken and making the noise, which is also what broke the tensioner, then when the tensioner was broken it gave the water pump even more play, hence why the noise has become so so bad! Can someone please let me know how much it is to replace, and how easy. it looks like you need to jack the engine up to gain proper access to it. Not looking good!

  10. I've got a 95 mk3VR6, recently started to get a strange rattling noise from the engine, close inspection shows it is coming from the alternator/tnsioner area. My bro reckons it might be a nackered bearing in the tensioner, i don't have a clue, pretty new the the VR engine. Would anyone know what this is, how simple to fix and how muich to fix? If you need any more details please let me know. thanks,
