  1. No. Only when the engine starts turning
  2. True but the face of the Porsche calipers stick out further than the 'standard' ones due to the extra pistons. If your getting the calipers for cheap anyway, buy em n try em. I know craggsy's running massive brakes but he got plenty of room under his wheels. I was thinking of getting Porsche calipers when I upgraded my brakes but they were expensive at the time and they don't fit under my wheels.
  3. Also, does it stop whining when you press the clutch pedal in?
  4. I had loud tapping once coming from the belted side of the engine and it was the pas pump. I thought it was the crank it was so loud and increased speed with the revs. New pump sorted it though.
  5. Your spring might not be in the locating lug
  6. You need 10mm hub centric wheel spacers and bolts too. I forgot about those
  7. Buy a code reader off eBay for a tenner. It will give you a fault code and you can check what the error is. It could be any number of things as well as a faulty maf. Trying another maf on your car wouldn't really work because your car would have already tried to adapt to your current maf so the learnt values would be out. Pm admin and see if there's anyone in your area with vagcom that could do it for you. They can also clear your codes whilst they are there. What reg is your car?
  8. Yeah they will fit but the adaptor you get off eBay is to run it on a 312 setup for the mk4's and stuff. You would also have to fit a 6mm spacer between the hub and caliper
  9. Don't quote me but a thin guitar string would do the trick. That's what it looked like the guy used to remove my windscreen.
  10. Apparently they do fit but there the cheaper upgrade to the other Porsche calipers people fit. I'm not sure what other bits are needed to fit them though, sorry. Check on mk4 golf forums and you need what they have plus a 6mm spacer.
  11. Www.brammer.co.uk or stealth racing can do you one for around 75 quid. For that you get a new belt and a slightly smaller idler pulley. Also, the belt is a standard belt off another car so cheaper to replace if needed again. You won't find out what car it's off til you buy it though. I keep meaning to get one, just not rang Vince yet!
  12. Get it plugged in and check for fault codes
  13. It could be the switch on the back of the ignition. About a tenner from vw. My mums went on her mk3 tdi and you had to hold the key between lights and start for it to turn over.
  14. I got my tank from vw for about 8 quid. For a vr
  15. It doesn't work on all vr's. When I say all I mean a few of the really early ones. My old L reg one did it but my mates J plate didn't.
  16. Just how I like it ;-) I'll look into the part numbers for you.
  17. Originally I was gonna go with yellow stuff pads as you can probably tell by the calipers but they didnt do them for the rears!
  18. get the part number. from memory the part number ends in 425 and 426
  19. here's what my brakes look like on mine...
  20. Cupra r brembo's have a 323mm disc and fit min 17". They are only on the cupra r so pads and discs could work out expensive. Ibiza are 4x100 so they don't fit at all. I wouldn't mind the Porsche calipers but they don't fit my wheels and there around £400! They also need an extra spacer to the 6mm plate that's around £100 unless you can make your own.
  21. Ahh. How about spending a little bit more on a complete vr off eBay. Take what you need from it and you might make the difference back breaking it for spares. There's a few auto highlines on at the min.
