  1. Yeah i've got access to pullers, work in a toyota dealer, wasn't sure if theyd be any special tools needed for VW boxes.
  2. Is there any way to rearrange photos in your album, ive uploades some and there all in the wrong order.
  3. Mines had a very hard life since ive had it. Used to thrash it everywhere, hot or cold. 1 engine rebuild later and i always let the oil get up to temp before going above 4k revs. And try to change oil every 3-4k miles. Oh and i got mine with 110k and no service history. Did the rebuild at 118k
  4. Right changed my mind again and decided to go for coilovers. Anyone recommend which brand. AP ones that venom sell are pretty cheap, but the you get what you pay for. Anyone used them? Or should i just pay the extra £100 and go for fk highsports?
  5. Yeah 2nd hand box probs would be best option. Would like to get this one rebuilt with an LSD but got to set my priorities, i.e. making sure i can stop! lol May get used one for now, then rebuild my one with and LSD sometime in the future when the rest of the cars sorted (or more likley leave it sittin gathering dust in the garage for the next decade). Probs would do a guide on here, would have doe when i did my engine rebuild but didnt take any photos!
  6. Was out for a drive today and noticed a slight whine from the gearbox area when on throttle, so how much would a gearbox rebuild cost to get done, from someone like stealth for example. Id be removing the gearbox myself and sending it to them. And anyone know if theres any special tools needed for vw boxes, as i might do it myself if not. Have access to pullers for doing toyota gearboxes from work which would hopefully do the job. If doing myself id only be changing bearings, synchros are all fine at the mo. Cars really starting to piss me off now, finished engine rebuild just before xmas, the
  7. Just found these on ebay! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-VR6-performance-cams-camshaft-Golf-Corrado-Vento_W0QQitemZ190209547681QQihZ009QQcategoryZ9889QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Anyone know if there any good and if its a good price? Dont know much about performance cams but may get a set if there any good, says hes got 10 available.
  8. Car = 1997 vr6 highline 3dr manual Company = Direct Line Age = 22 Area = Shetland Isles ZE2 Occupation = Mechanic (Not a good one when looking for insurance) YNC = 5 Points = 3 (SP30) Modifyed? = No Categories = Fully Comp Price = £514 Anually or £47 Monthly (£560 Approx) Notes = Protected NCB This is my renewal quote for this year, been searching around a bit and next best i got was £667 form Adrin Flux (think that was total when paying monthly.) Seems because of my age/occupation that very few companies will actually insure me :@ , so if anyones got any reccomendations for me to try befo
  9. Anyone ordered from that ECS tuning, thinking about getting that kit. How did it go with delivery and paying import duty? Never ordered anything from the states before!
  10. Yeah those eibach springs were one of the options i was thinking about, wasnt sure how it would look without seeing pics tho, but looks nice. Not sure what shocks to go for though, am i correct in thinking that those springs will fit any shocks for the golf!? Coillies would be better but once set id never bother adjusting them, so cant really justify the extra cash if i can find a shock and spring kit that i like.
  11. Im trying to decide which suspension kit to get for my vr6. Just got some new wheels on and its suffering from a bit of the 4x4 look so needs doing asap! I would prefer to get shocks and springs, as cant be arsed with the hassle of adjusting coillies and it would save some £££, but want somthing thats going to sit even front and rear, as the standard suspension seems to sit a bit higher at the front. Any reccomendations/pics?? Or should i just say f**k it and get coilovers!
  12. Going over it with a blowtorck works wonders, did it on my last golf and lasted about 6 months till the car got smashed up!
  13. tobesvw - What drop have you have on your car? Was thinking about getting the weitec kit that lowers 60mm front / 40mm rear as i noticed my vr sits a bit higher at the front on the standard suspension.
  14. Try bouncing each corner of the car and see if it settles again quickly. If it keeps bouncing shocks are nakered. This may sound a bit silly but have you checked tyre pressures?
  15. A friend of mine had a similar problem on his vr a few years ago which turned out to be the head gasket. It also ran on 5 at low revs then ran fine about 4k rpm and over. Get a compression test done to check for nakered head gasket or piston rings.
  16. If you go 18s you'll need a really skinney tyre and the ride will be horrible. I had 17s but managed to crack one of the a few weeks ago. Going for 16s now with a 45 profile instead of 40.
  17. I was going to start a new thread about tyres but thought i may aswell just add to this one. Im getting new wheels and am trying to decide which tyres to go for. Either Pirelli P Zero Nero (Extra Load), Dunlop SP Sport 9000, Toyo Proxes PX4, or Goodyear Eagle F1s. I has dunlops on my old wheels and they seemed pretty good and lasted reasonably well compared to a friend who uses the Goodyears, but thats probably his driving lol. Any opinions? Im tempted to try the Pirellis as i thought they were ment to be pretty good. They are all pretty much the same price so thats not a factor.
  18. Cheers for that. Do you have any issues with th tyre rubbing the rear arches?
  19. I am in the process of trying to get some D90 for my car and need some advice from someone whose fitted them for buying wheel spacers and tyres. Firstly i've been told H&R spacers are the ones to go for, but are there any cheaper options? Secondly what size spacers should i get? The wheels i am hopefully getting are 7.5" ET65 for the front, and 8" ET52 for the rear. I was thinking 30mm for the front and 20mm for the rear to bring the ofsett as near as possible to the original ET35. Or should i go any wider? And thirdly, what width tyres should i get? I'd like a little dit of a stretch but
  20. Do all obd2 cars have an engine check lamp, dont think mine does. If it does then the bulb must be out as it doesnt come on when the ignition is switched on
  21. Yea i know it should run for a little while after switching off, but not for an hour!
  22. Went to my car today about an hour, hour and half after i parked it up and tried to start it and all i got was a ckick, flat battery. Popped the bonnet and the auxilliary water pump was running, not sure if it was running before i tried to start the car tho. Tried disconnecting each of the three sensors on the thermostat housing and it still ran, so disconnected the pump and jump started the car. Any ideas what s causing this?
  23. Tried cutting of the plastic on the lead so it was level with the pins and still no joy. Think im going to try to find another cable and try that
  24. I had a tdi mk3 golf before and when i put the timing belt on i made an arse of it and the pistons were touching the valves slightly. It ran for a few days the i timed it up properly and it was fine. Valves will only bend if the timing is far enough out. I dont think its the timing any more as its got alot quieter, but would still like to check it again for peace of mind if i can find a mark on the crank. Been driving around in it today, done about 50 miles and it seems to be going good, just a bit noisey. Cant wait to get a few miles on it so i can floor it! And fingers crossed somthing wont
  25. That deffo be the easiest, if not the only way. Front end comes off really easy, two bolts behind each of the blanks next to the indicators, and one above each headlight. Then its just the wheel arch liners, wiring and A/C pipes etc
