[moved] rear brake help needed
gavinvr6 replied to gavinvr6's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
been wetting down the bolt heads and between the carrier and stub axle daily with a smidge of wd. then bashed a 15mm 12point socket on the one giving me jip and propper leaned on it. had to almost snap the breaker bar on all 4 bolts as they were rusted solid. on the last bolt i wasnt paying attention and the socket slipped, i ended up face planting the floor givin myself a bloody nose and 2 fat lips. but even then mr impatiant didnt come out and i just cracked on. the saying blood sweat and tears is right, thats for sure lol -

guys and gals. my rear brakes are shagged. i have mot coming up early next month and really need to get the disks and pads done, however the caliper carrier bolts refuse to move. ive used the correct allen bit on a breaker bar and just managed to part chew up the allen bolt. its still usable but partially rounded. i cant get the gits undone to do the rear brakes. i dont have access to flash tools or impact guns just a simple socket set and spanners. can anyone help please saturday morning. i'll give beer tokens if someone can just undo all 4 bolts. i have 4 new ones so method is up to u just d

URGENT REAR BRAKE HELP....... PLEEEEEASE
gavinvr6 replied to gavinvr6's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
was thinking of just putting on a new rear axle with stubs, is only 6 easy access bolts to undo the axke then shock bottom bolts. then dont matter if i smash the b-jesus outa the old axle to get the carriers off -
URGENT REAR BRAKE HELP....... PLEEEEEASE
gavinvr6 replied to gavinvr6's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
dont have another bigger allen key, the allen key turned half a flat. and that took a hell of a lot of force for it to do that, any thing harder would of span it completely. cant even get at the bolt head with a set of locking grips. and even then there isnt enough room to get some leverage on it. now all im left with the option of breaking the disk and cuttng the bolt heads off to remove the carrier then try and remove the bolt thread. or switching to another rear beam and fitting the new stuff to that. so if anyone knows of a rear beam with stubs going for as close to free as possible. i may -
URGENT REAR BRAKE HELP....... PLEEEEEASE
gavinvr6 replied to gavinvr6's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
well thats fuked it the allen key span inside the bolt head. it rotated 1/2 a flat. i had the socket level and at 90 degrees to the bolt head. where do i go from here? ive put everything back to gether again for now. but need some options. a. replace entire rear axle and fit new disks to that b. try smashing the disk and cutting the bolt heads off. c. let it fail the mot in november and burn it. -
URGENT REAR BRAKE HELP....... PLEEEEEASE
gavinvr6 replied to gavinvr6's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
its going in about 5mm. im tapping it home with a hammer to make sure it goes as far at poss. but will dig around inside witth a pick just to make sure its clean. have tried using a torque wrench as a lever and a 2 fot breaker but am worried the distance from the bolt to the wrench is to far and the allen will go at an angle when u put pressure on it and ruin the hole, especially with the shite extendable breaker i have. -
ok so things aint going to smoothly, firstly i couldnt find my caliper carrier allen key, so i made one. and used a socket to drive it, this promptly smoothed off the inside of the socket. so off to halfords, bought an 8mm 1/2" drive allen key. popped it on the breaker/torque wrench, STILL CANT UNDO THE CALIPER CARRIER BOLTS. have tried some wd40 thats not happening. only thing i can think of is an impact gun that i dont have or using a blow torch to try and heat the carrier and hope it dont melt the frigging brake pipe. its getting close to the point where the inside of the bolt will start to

few questions for the vr6 gods
gavinvr6 replied to mk1kid's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
make sure the isv and tb have a good seal and that you aint accidently split a hose. also what did you use to clean them? should only really use carb cleaner or contact cleaner. the engine should sit level just below the tops of the wings. try checking the left hand mount -
you could get decent second hand stainless one off someone on here or off ebay. last longer and some insurance companies dont even charge for fitting after market exhaust

its for sale by Robson Kay insolvency company. scroll down to last paragraph and click on his name to link to his website

on a trip from pompey to south london my water level light came on. dunno how im losing it though. no visible brown marks or anything. closest thing i can see is a matrix pipe that comes from the head/block and feeds the tb warmer has calcium build up around what looks like a perished joint where it steps up in size bout half way along any way is it possible to cut or modify this pipe till i find a replacement. or does anyone have one of theses hoses i can have/buy cheaply. km desperate as need to use the car a lot over the next few days
