Ok guys, sounds like we might have a turn out here. if anyone fancies popping over to the Harvester pub next to the Holiday Inn at the Reebok Stadium, Sunday 26th November, around 12:30 or so then post up your names. Junction 6 m61, can't miss it. Good crack, plenty space, good shandies and a bunch of guys with no moral highground, just vr lovers. Worth a visit. Nice run from up the motorway to the roundabout too so everyone will hear you coming, always nice. I'll be there with Gilly and hopefully our boy chris will show again. List of guys making the trip so far: Al75 Flog Tinny22 Alltorque

Sounds sweet, oh the £1100 price???? I got that wrong, thats only for 4 pot engines, reckon the mighty vr will be waaaaaaay more. Love to hear some roar though.

Ok guys, not many seem to go down this route but the big man has used these on his insane mk1, which got me to thinking. You can get the kits for around £1100 or so I think (schrick territory). Anyone on here have any info on whether these improve performance considerably, whether they would be a total pain in the arse to keep running right and whether they would make the vr drink more than Ollie? Intrigued.
-
Was tempted by this myself at some point, a mechanic genius friend of mine said forget a schrick, get a s/s 6 branch, zorst and induction kit and you'll be looking good for less than the cost of a schrick. However, I now know why I NEED a schrick because the whole torque re-distribution thing...anyway, that aside I've also heard the 6 branch can sound odd and tinny as they use thinner grade s/s. As for power hikes, not sure. buy one and tell us ;-)

Already on it!! Putting the 205/45/17s on the graphite mk5gtis this weekend, buffing em up then seeing if I can get around£450 for em, good price I think. I can't afford mega coilovers but heard good things about the supersports so might grab some of those if I can get a good price, up 120mm slamming action AWESOME!!!! Mike, I'm doing my own so should be finished in a couple of weeks as I can't spend ages doing it. Once done I'll swap with my current one, polish and paint that and sell it £75 exchange I reckon. You'll get the tts pretty cheap as no-one really bothers with em. All I need the

How tricky will welding one of these bad boys up be? Also, will any kind of ecu setting need doing or will the airflow change be minimal?
-
Sorry chief, just had a proper look at your pic, you've cut the side walls rather than the whole top section haven't you? Sweet!! Let me know if there is any difference in driving when its on, I need to know for sure before I carve mine up.
-
Cheers boss. Will look even better when slammed a bit more and with a decent s/s system to top it off...and my polished mani.
-
Its all good Pete, I know they have different tbs, I was just coming at it from the angle that if I was obd1 and had the regular tb and was looking to do this manifold mod then there may be issues with airflow and all that jazz as the 2.9 tb is slightly bigger (I think this is right), but me having obd2 my tb is already bigger so doing this mod should be fine. does any of that make sense? Gav, get on it son!! Don't forget you need to cut out that bloody big bit in the middle too else it won't make any difference. Post another pic when its all cut out before you weld, i wanna see it naked and h

mk5 gti rims, refurbed, spotless brand new caps and very good tyres ready to rock, should be good for around the £500 mark i reckon, I've seen less go for more. A set of standard silver ones went for £460 on ebay, these are much cooler.
-
Really lame post guys, I just can't make my mind up on what to do so would like some fellow advice. My vr is looking pretty sweet with the 16"tts on I think but I also have a set of Monza1s I refurbed and painted up graphite which look pretty awesome although not the style of wheel I really love. Now, I bought new oem centres for them which really make the rims pop, plus i bought a set of heavy treaded federal tyres (205/45/17s) which I know are no good to me if I decide to keep the wheels for spring as i need 40s. Here is my problem. I keep the rims, buy the right tyres (260 fitted) and hub a

I know chief, just thinking out loud, the standard obd2 has the 2.9 larger tb doesn't it or similar? I'm thinking I'm gonna do this to mine and see how we go, can always swap back if needs be.

You fancy a Bolton meet chief in the next couple of weeks chief? We managed a whole 3 cars last time, hoping for more this time. -
Ahhhh, now we're talking!! So with the obd2 having the same tb as the 2.9 ( I think I'm right there) it kinda makes sense to do this mod. There shouldn't really be any downsides...in theory. F'k it lets have a go!!!!
-
Could someone post up a pic of the underside of a standard 2.9 mani? So, the burning question is, should I do this to the one I'm polishing up at the moment for mine or would the downsides outweigh the benefits? i really don't want any more lag at low end.

JK, I hear ya brother, the zorst is quite high on the list of things to go (it came with the car) along with a good slamming. It bumbles along nicely but would I'm itching for a full s/s system. It's all in the mix.

Here are some shots I took today while I had a bit of time to kill. She's coming together nicely, strapped on the 16"tts with Toyo Proxies on so she's starting to look a bit cooler, black badges and removed the front vr badge for clean lines. Planning on saving for some nice dark angel eye lamps to replace the hella quads and would like a better suspension kit to go lower. The 17" monzas are still gonna go on in spring but for now, this is how she stands. What y'all think for now?

Ok guys, I know a bit about this and that and can see when someone is making a point but I can't make my mind up about this: http://www.vwhookup.com/sales_hyper_flow_VR6_intake_manifolds.html A bit of feedback from engine genius' would be nice here. I can see what they're saying but would this not cause problems on starting up and maintaining smooth running? Obvioulsy a re-map would help. I'm working on a mani at the moment and thinking whether or not to do this.

Okay dudes, seen a bit of this about so fancy some for mine. Where is the best place for smoked lenses, or for ghetto engineering style, what is the best stuff to use to smoke them myself without them looking biz?
-
AWESOME!! working one one myself at the mo, not as hard to get started but once you get into it, the more you feel possessed to sand. Oh, where you get the black paint from? I need to do the inners for mine too. General engine paint?

I'm up for whatever!! Bit earlier than 2pm though I reckon. I should have new rims on by then (maybe even my polished mani). -

Elland road meet is a belter, bunch of great guys and the pub is usually pretty quiet so no-one thinking we're all weirdos for talking about engines and wheels. Pete will give you teh details. not sure when the next one is though. -
Well the first Bolton meet has happened and without sounding like a nob, kinda surprised at all those who were whining about the lack of meets actually didn't even show up. Oh well, can't say we didn't try eh? Big up to Chris for making the trek from Southport, good to meet you chief, good level of vr6 obsession and proper decent bloke. Not a bad place to meet really, good sized car park with a couple of decent bars/pubs to get some real nice grub from, the Harvester has pretty girls working there, good beer and great food. Maybe next time eh boys. Soon.
