i find tyres funny things really, they'l do miles and miles when you half expet them to screw the edges off,the one day, all of sudden, they go shinny! like it happens all in one go on the way to work! luckily living in wrexham, i took mine to demon tweeks after i trashed 2 sets and got it all algined properly. what a difference, money well spent for me.

check the oil mate like you said. if in doubt change it. peace of mnd if nothing else. also, try to source Redline MT90 box oil for it, i found it much better in mine, with smoother changes and a tad quieter. its about £15 a throw, and you need 2 bottles which is the sore point but you know its done right then. worth a go anyway.

how you finding the scorpion system mate? im undecided between scorpion and miltek. ive had a scorpion on my gti but the letterbox tailpipe never sat square in the bumper. right slag of a thing to align. let us know what you think of it on the vr. cheers. -
ooo recipe for chewing off front tyres there i think! i had heard that removing the plastic inner arches makes it quite noisy in the car, but think il give it a go over the weekend. its booked in for new rear arch panels and a roll job for the 18th, to get rid of the rotten scabs. will post up the results.
-
you had your arches rolled or anythng mate? mines a fraction off that height and rubs lke hell at the front on roundabouts and quick bends. back just catches on bumps too. i am running tt comps though so they stick ot slightly further. also, do any of you guys remove your inner arches at the front to get the extra drop??

i know the upper chain is a duplex fitted to obd2 engines, therefore i think the guides are the same. i cant see why the tensioner bolt would be any different. im sure someone will confirm this as ive never fitted one to later engines. only the old oil burners!!
-
sounds like the top chain tensioner like you said mate. ive changed a few on different cars as they bleed back with age. Therefore no oil pressure means slack chain on start up. around the £35 mark from my local specialist of my memory serves me correctly, (genuine VAG)

Ive done some searching through old posts as im im looking at getting a 6 branch for my 1995 OBD1golf pretty soon. all of the raceland manis ive seen have 2 blanked off ports facing the bulkhead and the ETKA online shows a pipe connecting these on the standard version. what are these for? im a mech myself so ive looked at mine, and i dont have anthing off my standard mani like this. storm developments version doesnt have anything there either. also, the racelands have a 2 bolt flange onto the cat whereas the cat has a 3 bolt flange?? i take it theres a difference in models somewhere so any hel

the standard heat shield bolts on directly from the top. the two bolts your refering two, are supposed to be for oxygen sensors i believe. i dont think all VR's have them so im not certain. little issued like this are the only things holding me back on buying one. -
can these ebay chips be fitted easily or is it a specialist job which involves pennies? i am a mech so im not affraid of delving in btw..

R32 front brake set up fit on mk3vr6 hubs???
Big J replied to 6potmkII's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
far as im aware its all the same kit, just oversized. someone here is bound to set the record straight if im wrong though. if hes your cousin couldnt you ask to try and offer up the carriers to hubs to be certain? also you'l need 17" wheels to fit over them. -
i had this problem mate, few people told me to leave it "better too cold than too hot" and a few said put a stat in it. had a spare tenna so i put a stat in it last week and it runs at normal 90 deg running temp now. much better for it too.

Hmmmmm J like! very nice indeed, loving the black theme you got there, i wouldnt of pictured black wheels on a black car as looking so good! polar opposite to mine

Brembo Brake Upgrade - Need some info
Big J replied to Pervert's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
i may be wrong here, but i think the 288's had anti rattle spring clips on the wheel side of the caliper whereas the 280's didnt. -
its the aux water pump mate. dont wory about it, its meant to happen.

thanks pete, i rang Tim on the off chance that The Phirm would be open and its all fitted and looking refreshed. thanks anyway.

does anybody know if the battery needs to be disconnected before i remove the instrument cluster or does it not matter? i hope i doesnt matter really, saves running the risk of having the immobiliser reset.
-
is it just the engine putting back together, ready to go in the car your after? or the whole hog?
-
knock sensor maybe?? not sure really

can anyone tell me if a US spec radiator cover (as seen on slam panel) will fit a euro VR? if so can someone please help track one down for me, as i fancy one for some strange reason. 8-)
-
hi mate dont worry about this at all, i have exactly the same with mine. i spoke to tim at the phirm and he said its nothing to worry about, seems healthy enough. if he said that, then thats good enough for me. it never overheats and never runs cold either. just doesnt run as warm as my 1800 SE did, but apparantly thats a VR thing.

could anyone tell me if the air box off a vr6 is a specific fitment, or is it likely to be the same of as a gti air box? im after one but theres no chance of finding a used vr box in my area, whereas a gti air box may not be so hard to find. any help appreciated.
-
mine does this, justs goes over the line then goes to bang on 90 at standstill. ive had to order a new thermostat housing as it cracked when i was doin the chains, and then purely down to my stone hand i cracked the main pipe that runs into the water pump. bugger! :$ never really looked at oil temp as ive only had it a month before i decided to renew the timing gear and clutch. will keep my eye on it when its running again tho.
-
so what should i do about it then? after speaking to tim at the phirm he said to leave it as it is, because its better to open early rather than late. he also said to check the electric pump as im sure it doesnt work. my old 1800 SE sits dead on 90 and stays there too.
