  1. If you have non adjustable suspension then you probably have a weak or broken coil spring on one side which could be why the car is sitting a bit lower on that side. Have you noticed any clonking noises or instability when driving, expecially in and out of corners and on bumpy roads? Kevin
  2. It does with flaming Elepahnt. Good old Trunky wants an extra, wait for it, an extra £180 odd quid plus another £70 for non standard rims, exhaust, and suspension. Thankfully I haven't told them I ve done the mods cos they don't even do like for like if they got nicked Like an honest idiot i rung them before getting a quote with Brentacre and Adrian Flux. The quote from Brentacre was £2 more than my current premium with that bloody grey elephant even with the 3 points and a few mods. When i rung elephant to cancel said policy, the woman on the other end said i would be back charged fro
  3. Hi Ian I went the G-Max route. The non adjustable Shock/Spring kit gives a 35-40mm drop. Comfortable ride and much better handling than standard even on 17's. I would also recommend changing both shocks and springs at the same time. It will save you having to go through the process of doing it all over somewhere down the line especially if they've been on for some time. There was and advice in the kit I fitted saying to cut at least 20mm of the bump stops so i did but only on the fronts :S . The front top mounts may also need replacing as the bearings in them have a tendancy to go. Kevin
  4. I lkie those on mk3's mate, good choice. I had something similar on my last mk 3. I think thats what my cousin has on it now http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?109682 They don't rub but the 15 inch TSW's that i had on it did. Different offset and weak springs i think
  5. I'm clutching at straws. Alarm maybe? Also the central locking pump? I've heard of that causing a flat battry by running constantly after the doors have beeen locked. Have u tested the battery just to make sure its not got a dead cell? Try disconnecting it overnight. Kevin
  6. :-d That is seriously funny shit!
  7. Who's that with, Adrian FLux? I didn't make myself clear mate. I meant roughly how much would insurers sting you for 3 points
  8. Do a search on this site Jim. There are loads of threads on different suspension set ups and costs. I went for the conventional shock spring set up but an up-rated non adjustable kit from G-Max. I wanted to keep the car as comfortable as possible but without the boaty feeling the original suspension has and without breaking the bank. Check the threads as I don't want to repeat myself too much Kevin
  9. Hi Regs. They probbly won't rub if you're still on standard suspension but if you go lower then you will probaly have rubbing problems. You might be better of with 205's. what rims are they? Kevin
  10. I'm insured with Elephant. I'm 29 and payed £588 fully comp with 6 yrs Guaranteed NCB on my '96 4dr Highline in Feb this year. I've lowereed it, changed my rims and I'm about to put a SS exhaust on it. They just quoted me an extra £65 for these mods. Is that about right? I was also wondering roughly how much you get stung for if you get 3 points as i got flashed the other day :-( Cheers Kevin
  11. i thought that too. i think i might "borrow" the fire extinguisher that in my work van and relocate it to the boot of my VR
  12. I had the original small VR6 Highline badge at the back without the "Golf" bit. They didn't take the small front VR6 badge on the grill or the front VW badge probably cos i swapped the chrome for a black one and the VR6 isn't that easy to get off. Just ordered the rear VW one from the bay
  13. Thanks folks. I just needed to share my anger. I might only replace the VW sign for now whilst i save up for my high voltage alarm. Found one on the Bay. A badge not the alarm
  14. Went out to my car this morning only to find that some thieving little gits have nicked my rear badges. The smoothe VW Highline one and the VR6 one. I'm not impressed. :@ In removing the VW one they managed to scratch the paintwork. To make matters even worse, the VR6 badge had been stuck on with Super Glue by previous owner so I now have a White patch where it used to be. :@ No doubt there is some ass-idiot driving around in a mk3 golf cl with my highline badges on it. I wish I had an alarm like that one in Robocop. !0,000,000 volts through there thieving bones if they touch it. hmmm.
  15. Hi Pete. If you can tilt and wind it shut using the "S" shaped allen key then it will probably be one of the relays. Possibly motor but i don't think would open if it was. Try winding it back and see if the runners move back evenly on either side. One of the runners was knackered on my previous Golf. It wouldn't wind all the way back and never closed evenly. I had to replace the whole thing. Kevin
  16. LOL. Yeh that 400mm drop sure is playing havoc with the underside of the car.
  17. Has any body had any rubbing problems on the rears with Tt Comps? My nearside rear rubs occaisionally but I noticed that the bumper does not fit flush with the arch on that side. I think this could be the source as its visibly closer to the tyre on that side. Ive got a 400 mm drop btw. Cheers, Kevin.
  18. Sounds good to me m8. I'm a service engineer for Telewest and I even thought of going for home choice as I live outside the franchise. I've heard from an old colleague who works for them that if you have a lot of phone extensions that sometimes they have to disconnect 1 or 2 just to give you a faster connection but that shouldn't be a problem. They test your phone line before installing to make sure its up to spec. Kevin
  19. Its all down to personal preference at the end of the day but if they're not on it i wouldnt put them on. Keep the smooth lines.
