  1. hello again .... when i've misjudged a turn in the r32 the car corrects itself (ie almost for an instant drives itself as the power is given to the wheel most needing it) ... its actually a bit of a bizarre experience having the rear wheels correcting your direction !) ... i just got a feeling the 4-motion is being driven against the laws of physics ... i found out very quickly when i 1st got the 'r' that even though it's got rear traction on the wrong turn you cant beat newton's law's of motion !!! i guess he just needs to get used to driving it to be honest ..... if there was owt wrong with
  2. hello mate .... is this happening in the dry or wet ? ive got an r32 and have once or twice had a similar issue .... ive simply put it down to either oil/grease on the road or me being a bit too fast ... even with 4wd can't always beat the laws of physics (take it from me the worst thing i do is then drive the vr forgetting it doesnt have rear wheel drive too !!)
  3. yeah me girlfriend said it happens all the time - van drivers driving right up her backside - on the people carrier brigade they seem just as bad as the 2.7 TDi or 3.0 TDi's (Audi's) - they seem to think their car's are quicker than they are and tend to be middle-aged ****heads (says me approaching 40 !!!)
  4. hi sanky .... may pop over .... shall i bring the r32 or the vr6 ??? haha ....
  5. nah he just lost control of it ..... though he definitely crashed his ego .... very funny .....
  6. my partner has got a new beetle (the sluggish 2.0 litre one but she thinks its quick !) .... washed it for her in the week and took it for a spin to dry it off .... it's also got the girly decals on it too ... this bloke in a white van came right up me backside when i was driving it (no doubt assuming some bird was driving it) so i thought ***k it and went for it around a roundabout in middlesbrough and could even feel the rear end almost starting to go .... when i looked in the mirror all i could see was the white van spinning out of control as he lost the rear end trying to keep up ... it wa
  7. yep cleared them n faults not come back !! she originally took it to a garage and they charged her £ 35 just to read the codes so my £ 20 ebay obd2 code reader was a good investment as being used on 2 cars now !
  8. are there any planned at the peacock soon pete ??? wudnt mind giving the vr a run out sometime !!
  9. hello mate ..... north derbyshire though would be good to meet up at the peacock (leeds) sometime ?? owt planned yet ??
  10. r32 (mk4) has great looks, rarity and presence and will undoubtedly be a future classic (i own one and take it from me the number of people who look at the car when your driving it is a nice pleasure) ... as for the audi marque how many classics can be named apart from the original quattro ? (unlike old Gti, G60, Corrado Storm, VR6 etc) .. having said that new Q thing looks tasty !! to me an rs4 is the next progression from an r32 though
  11. could it be simply that the tdi is more noisy than the silky smooth vr6 hence giving the impression it's a bit quicker (to the driver only of course) - i've had a similar thing comparing my vr to my r32 - the r32 is a much quieter delivery of power from the engine so when i drive the vr6 i sometimes feel it's 'quicker' even though it certainly isn't !!
  12. put the fault code reader for the vr into me girlfriends new beetle and came up with a couple of misfires apparently - when erased fault didnt return - do these codes just come up if there is blip in the cars running ? for a misfire couldnt hear anything unusual and the car seemed to drive fine - am i missing something here ??? cheers
  13. there gotta be summat wrong with ure vr if you think it's slow .... ! mid range its a very quick car and as for a vr6 matching an r32 ? mmmmm not quite so sure on that one as own both and have done my own little 'tests' on certain roads/landmarks though granted mid range not too much in it ! as for the TDi related comments thats when i have most fun in my debadged vr .... its just nice to see them disappear in the rear view mirror ... and to embarrass lower end porsche owners ... priceless !
  14. sure is mate - funnily enough i saw him again yesterday near sheffield when i was in my r32 ... he recognised me put his window down to say hi and mentioned again he couldnt believe the "mk3" was so quick ! .... then he tried to take on my r32 so i pulled away and strangely enough mid range the r32 left him for dead - but at least he is a good sport !!
  15. i couldn't wait for an r32 so waited for the price to drop to a more sensible level - cant blame you for waiting a bit longer though the way i looked as it was that (with all the options included) mine cost £ 27k new so the first owner lost £ 10k in 3 years which is a lot to me ! r32 prices should fall when the golf r36 comes out next year though im pretty confident they will still hold strong (for good ones like 3 door which there arent that many of)as there are only 2k of them in the uk !
  16. yep same engine as far as I know - vr6 should take it pretty easy at the top end driven hard
  17. exactly ... was very funny ... even the large "DUB" sticker on his rear window didn't seem to make it go any quicker ... strange that !!! and yes it is a true story no reason to lie on here as too old ! yes pete have kept the vr ...have as much fun in it as r32 but in different way ... especially now debadged !
  18. hi there matt yes very happy with the number plate thanks ! see lots of people looking at it and it adds a nice touch to the car ! i dont really want to get into the r32 vs vr6 debate .... they r both great cars in their own right - but u r absolutely right about leaving an r32 anywhere - there will always be someone out there to spoil your day !! ... overall the r32 is a great allround performer and most drivers seem to leave it alone when on the road ... the vr6 is a truly excellent car and now coz it looks old will surprise a lot of people ... the best cars tend to be 1.8T's or 2.0T's who s
  19. ... 2nite had a little drive in me debadged highline and this car came right up me backside and was a mk4 golf ... initially i assumed it was an r32 but couldnt see it as was dark ... 2 cut 2 the chase (if you pardon the pun) ... this modded mk4 couldnt keep up by any stretch of the imagination ... when we reached the roundabout at the end of the dual carriageway the windows went down and the driver (trying to impress his 2 friends) said he couldn't believe how quick my car was ... he said his was a chipped 1.8T mk4 gti ... when i then saw them 10 minutes later after 1 junction on the m1 he ag
  20. sorry to hear about that mate - my ex used to work for churchill and basically if you have modded the car and not declared it they will put it back to standard factory spec - ie wont pay for a milltek but would replace with a vw similar original part - best way is to be totally honest with them - i even had to amend my policy as have 2 vw's and only a single garage so couldn't have both down as in the garage !! insurance companies are 2wats for payouts so be true with them !!!
  21. believe or not i too just despatched a cooper S tonight though that was in my vr6 - it was only midrange that the vr6 showed its midrange power as i visibly saw his car jerk doing a gear change when the vr was pulling in 3rd - the v6 4motion is no quicker than a vr6 from my experience on a straight - in a 4motion dont worry about the straight sprints - wait till the corners and bends (assuming your 4motion has had a suspension upgrade) - ive got an r32 and that's when it comes into its own - on bends, roundabouts and in the wet !!!!
  22. got an r32 so want to keep the running costs down on my vr now !! anyone know what size socket wrench i need to take the oil filter screw thing off ??? (ie the wrench that neatly fits around the bottom of the oil canister ? cheers
  23. yep i own both and vouch for the comments above ... the r32 is just a totally different car ... however i have just as much fun in my debadged vr6 ... as most people think its an old 4 door golf not realising there is a 195 bhp engine in it ! on a private road called the m18 near me had some fun in r32 with a civic type r ... it was still pulling at 145mph when the honda just tailed off ... according to the speedo the most i ever got from the vr6 was 145mph though it took a while to build up that speed and i must admit was really having to hold the steering wheel ... in the r32 it was more eff
  24. yes and your right about the konig leather ... the quality (in my opinion) of the leather isnt as good as my highline to be honest !
  25. i bought an r32 from vw dealers about a month ago now and asked about the software upgrades - ure right it was only the very early models which had this pause in power problem .. i even checked with customer services at milton keynes that the car hadnt had any warranty recalls ... my best advice on buying an r32 is write down exactly what you want in terms of spec / colour / leather ? / sat nav ? / miles and just wait ... mine turned up though ended up buying it from a vw dealers on the south coast and i live in yorkshire ... !!! they are still pricey so make sure you get exactly what you want
