Top Gear 'VR6' review on T.V. .......
vr6highline28 replied to vr6highline28's topic in General Chat
cheers mate .... thats a great clip ..... im sure they did a skit on the actual show about the golf vr6 when it came out .... i may contact top gear -
sorry to put a boring slant on this thread .... is there anything wrong in terms of performance (not noise !) of actually fitting a standard vw vr6 exhaust ?? just wondered as mine will be ready soon for replacement !
-
the absolute best guide im aware of is the bentley manual for the mk3 golf including the vr6 - its for the american market though differs little from the uk spec - its basically a vw workshop manual - it includes the exact service requirements for each model and when they need doing - bit pricy but make haynes (which dont cover the vr6) look like cartoon books !!!
-
i'm sure top gear did a review on the vr6 (i mean the tv show not a writeup on their website !) and vaguely recall seeing this a few years ago - probably around 1992/3 - does anyone know where i can access this from or indeed find out if it exists ???? cheers

hello mate - what sort of turnout do you get at chatsworth ? im just down the road so might bring the highline along -
yep agreed in fact theres little dfference between the v6 4motion and the mk4 r32 apart from different styling ... basically any golf with a v6 engine in it is gonna go well !
-
can definitely vouch that the 4motion is no quicker in a straight line than a vr6 in standard form - must be the power / weight ratio !!

I've just reinsured with Admiral - they do allow most mods though the catch is that if you make a claim they will only pay out to put the car back to standard manufacturers spec - they do make this clear on the internet or if you call them up - so assuming your car isn't fully loaded with mods then they seem pretty good value - i've paid £ 254 all in fully comp with lowered suspension - one of the advantages of being an old git ! if you have a second car they do a very cheap multicar policy and I got my Mk2 8 valver TPFT for £ 160 which is nowt

Full Closure Alarms - Golf VR6 - a warning !!!!

i'm sending her down the gym now for when my other arm gets trapped ............ -
changed the oil and filter on the vr yesterday and noticed some oil on the engine on the right hand side which went down to near the sump plug - none of this oil has actually dripped onto the garage floor so im not too concerned about it - any ideas what this may be as couldnt see any obvious place where it had come from !!! cheers

.... no i'm not a boy racer (far too old for that now) and normally take it pretty steady - last night i ended up trying to keep up with a cupra 'r' which i must admit was marginally pulling away (to be expected for 225 bhp car 7 years younger !) from the lights up an incline - after a while i started gaining on it (once doing about 90+ (private road of course !) - obviously he may have eased off though i've found it hard to find any suitable mid-range figures to compare - anyone got any ideas ? by the way i dont care that the cupra is a faster car - its just for interest !
-
oh and not that i'm anti-police (far from it) but if you come in on J29 of the m1 there is often an unmarked maroon vauxhall omega in that area - its distinctive as its so old ! (an X-plate)
-
may pop along if i'm about as live in chesterfield - just a quick warning to anyone travelling there through chesterfield from the m1 as between chessie and chatsworth there is often a mobile speed camera parked up past the 'highwayman' pub where the road goes into a gentle bend and slightly downhill (after you've left chesterfield) ... just to let you know as I've seen it there many times !

my girlfriend tried to smash the glass 4 times with a torque wrench and unbelieveably the glass didnt give way - only 4 tiny scratches showing ! i think that proves how desperate i was getting !!! -

cheers sanky - hand still a bit iffy but should get the feeling back eventually ! i still cant believe the force behind the window ........ on the Thatcham 1 issue thats an interesting point as my alarm is a factory fitted conlog (?) system which has the cat 1 bit ticked on the installation certificate - luckily my insurance only asks if an alarm is fitted (not whether Cat 1 etc) so shouldn't be a problem though certainly worth considering for the future ! -
i'm using the tesco 99 ron in my vr6 which has now appeared in the sheffield area and can honestly say cant tell any difference performance wise though its definitely getting more miles from a tank now - we also use it in our 2.0 L Beetle and the economy has improved noticeably from about 300 ish from a full tank to nearly 350 miles

i know not the cleverist thing to do ! was trying to retrieve something left on the dashboard - my fault but more concerned for accidents if children about - the car is a '97 model highline - i still dont have full feeling in my hand and it was over a week ago ! -
sounds stupid but was working on my car and set the closure alarm (factory fitted Thatcham 1 job) - the drivers window automatically closed and i (bizarrely !) got my arm caught between the window and door frame near the wrist - i couldn't believe that the motor was continuing to try and shut the window and the force on my wrist caused me to lose all circulation into my hand meaning the hand contracted on its on ! i tried to reverse the alarm but the window still kept pressing - no joke the force of it was quite unbelieveable and i could not release my arm at all - got it sorted by a neighbour
