Definitely agree, get one with the metal bottom part -the plastic ones tend to be flimsy and don't sit right on the car. They are also easily broken when off the car! Personally I would only colour code side skirts if I were also colour coding the front spoiler and the bottom of the rear bumper, otherwise it looks wrong to me.
Often you don't even need any ftp software- I just use Internet Explorer - try just typing the ftp address into your browser and it should prompt you for your username and password for the ftp space, and then you can just drag and click the files as per Windows Explorer. Don't use lycos when you already have a decent alternative!
Depends how bad the traffic is really - it's not unknown to see 13-14 on mine in bad traffic, but in general town use it gives low 20's. Best ever on a long gentle motorway run was about 33.
The standard size as fitted to Mk3 Anniversarys is 215/40/16, so is probably the best. People have also been known to run 205/45/16 which isn't far different and can be a little cheaper. I run 205/40/16 on mine, and find the ride a bit harsh as they are lower profile than the 215/40's I had before.
Can't beat a black 3dr VR! Looks nice, and worn front tyres aren't exactly unusual on these!! Price sounds a bit high to me, but I was a bit lucky with the price I paid for mine!!
Don't think I've ever seen a polished VSR before - looks fab, much more interesting than these common Schrick VGI's like mine! Any external pics of the car?
Heat gun is your best bet and gently push it back to the right shape. I've seen this done reasonably successfully on a VR front spoiler (described on ebay as mint...!)
Buy the top mounts from VW, they last better than the cheapies. About £50 for a pair of both rubber mounts and the bearing units. Quite easy to change yourself as long as you have access to spring compressors.
They were out in the car taking some videos when it happened. As they couldn't do much to put it out (although much of their attempts are edited out from the video), there was little they could do but watch it go up hence videoing it. Was apparently a very tasty 2.0 20v turbo jobby.
I've found the handling is affected more than straight line performance. WIth the stock 15's on 205/50's, there is a fair bit of give in the tyre, which you lose as you increase rim diameter and therefore reduce tyre profile. This tends to make the breakaway where you lose grip more sudden, rather than the very progressive way it goes on the 15's.
Basically anything mk4 based is 5/100 -ie Golf 4, Bora, old shape A3, Leon. Anything mk5 based is 5/112 - Golf 5, new A3, Seat MPV type thing. As said, A4's, Passats etc are 5/112.
No, my 97 doesn't. My 94 GTI did however! TBH, the glovebox in the VR is pretty useless anyway - about a quarter of the size of the GTI one, but that's the price you pay for a passenger airbag and air con!
