  1. If it was a dog, you'd shoot it...
  2. The VW tyre size on 16's is 215/40/16 as fitted to the anniversary etc. I'm running 205/40/16's without any problems, and lots of people run 205/45/16's. I wouldn't go any skinnier than a 205 with all that VR grunt to put on the floor!
  3. The red golf in the first picture has a US spec bumper which is bigger - that's presumably how it was fitted. I'm sure you could trim a Vento spoiler down to fit a Golf bumper though, with a bit of ingenuity!
  4. 17's are generally fitted for looks - they never handle as nicely as smaller rims IMHO. What size tyres are you running?
  5. Yep, the lights flash and you get a sort of ticking noise?
  6. I'd agree on the disclaimer front. Very few disclaimers will stand up in court anyway!
  7. The battery is flat. The flashing happens when you try to start a car with an immobiliser with a flat battery- never quite worked out why. And the motor behind the o/s/r light is the central locking pump which hasn't enough power to finish the job. Jump start and it'll start normally. Then you need to work out why it went flat - did you leave the lights on or anything like that?
  8. It's the only way to try and prevent teenage pregnancies in the council estates!!
  9. Coilovers are the ultimate in that you have full height adjustablity and on decent kits, adjustable damping too, but you really don't have to have them if you don't want to!! The harshness really depends on what kit you fit. I'm running Eibach springs, Koni T/A Gas shocks, and Eibach Anti roll bars - it's about 35mm down on standard. The handling is fantastic and the ride isn't bad at all. Personally, I'd like a bit lower, but it depends how usable you want the car to be, especially if you have speed humps and crap roads where you live!
  10. US cars with CC have the controls on the indicator stalk, so it's definitely not VW kit.
  11. Here's a pic of jjsouthwest's dash. It has what looks to me to be an aftermarket Cruise Control installation, but it doesn't appear to do anything! Any ideas? Big Pic here: http://www.mrben1.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/P1010049.JPG
  12. Noel, have you talked to the guys who have the similar business up in Scotland? Find out who insures them?
  13. If anyone wants to find it, it's linked below - the seller decided to misspell Schrick to make it hard for people to find! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=9889&item=4528206252&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
  14. Nice! Why didn't you borrow some wheels whilst it was being done?! I couldn't bear to see mine sitting on stands for weeks!
  15. Quite a lot of people are going for the Merc style mirrors with indicators in as a tidy way of losing the lights in the wings.
  16. Well tell all your friends, so long as they don't look like the bloke in your sig!!
  17. Happy to assist with the news letter. I'm not brilliant at writing articles, but if you want editing/proof reading type stuff doing, happy to help.
  18. They've never stopped making mk1 Golfs. People are hearing about them again as Beetles UK have just started importing them into the UK. Have a look at http://www.beetles-uk.com/ for more info.
  19. After he's finished mine of course!
  20. Have you checked the error codes again? If you clear them, take it for a run and check them again, you can find out what's throwing up the problem at the moment.

Same here, it's especially fun with pedestrians who are being a bit slow crossing the road!! 8)
