  1. dont worry jimbo - iv been there with my fair share of mechanical probs. had a new engine and box put in a week after i bought the darn thing. you will soon enjoy the car so look forward to it
  2. ordered them from awesome gti as they had them in stock and a friendly service overall.
  3. ok... so anyone know where is the best place to buy these from? awesome gti have them for £75 but totals to £93 inc delivery and VAT.
  4. ok - so the magnecor site is not as experienced as vr6oc lol, thanks for the advice guys - i will go for the 8mm ones as they are the same price anyways
  5. 83K on the car and 69K on new engine that had to be fitted but considering its now low miles
  6. cheers guys, i will go for the 8mm ones to keep the cost down as i have spent a fortune as it is thanks again and i will order from awesome gti soon.
  7. blue ones are the 8mm ones right? did they make a difference in performance at all? is there any point getting the 8.5mm ones if running a standard engine?
  8. oops ... ok decided to go to magnecors website and found out that they will all fit - 7mm and 8mm - direct replacements 8.5mm the clips on guide rails have to be filed off.
  9. hey dubbers, I just found out i have been running on 5 cylinders as petrol consumption and lack of power made me suspicious. Turned out a lead was buggered so put a temp one in for now and car feels much faster with great acceleration!! , can anyone advise which magnecor ones will be a good replacement? 7/8/8.5 mm?? i want them to fit into the guide rails securely so i guess the 8.5mm is a no go. will the 8mm fit in or do i have to stick with the 7mm? cheers guys!
  10. hi jimbo, sorry to hear that mate but atleast you will get it sorted! what mm leads did you buy? i just found out i was running on 5 cylinders as one of the leads were buggered, i want magnecor ones like you ordered.
  11. i think the gap should be pretty much the same as you will have higher profile tyres instead,
  12. congrats mate - hope all is well and enjoy the sleepless nights (hint > might want to consider moving into the VR6 lol)
  13. jimbo - if you unplug the maf/afs and the car drives much better then i'd assume its buggered, if it dont make any difference at all when you unplug and drive it then it is probably fine - i cleaned mine with electrical contact cleaner
  14. 35mm drop on 17"s as you can see plenty of clearance there, no problems for me and i live in east london where speed bumps are every where!
  15. try the air flow sensor trick - unplug it and see if it still plays up - a faulty air flow sensor can cause lack of power and hesitation as well as lumpy running. worth a free try imo
  16. tell hte body shop to roll and flare the arches for you, gives an amzing look and good clearance too. heres when i had mine done on my first VR:
  17. hi admin, my advert in for sale section has disappeared - 'top end for sale'
  18. try disconnecting the air flow sensor and see if the problem immediately goes away (take it for a short spin) could well be the air flow sensor!!
  19. same here, my abs bulb is blown and no comment on it at all from the tester
  20. well.... HIC require a cat1 alarm minimum to insure the car (as far as i can remember) so i told them i have a clifford cat1 alarm on it already. so no real discount after installation, had to tell them in advance as they charge 25 pounds for adjustments on policies. amazing alarm though - anti-car jacking device too!
  21. jimbo if yours is 96 P its defo an obd2 engine with a different on board diagnostic model and a slightly bigger throttle body to obd1. cleaning it should make all the difference (atleast its free to clean.. except a coupla quid for carb cleaner) keep the post updated with results.... good luck - easy fixes are the best!!
