Yeah it's a tinkling kind of noise.....cat converters do it also until they get good and hot. It's usually where the exhaust gases cool down and expand on their way out of the exhaust, particularly inside the cat or the first expansion box. Sure it's not the usual 'pinging' you get from the exhaust on after run? It might be your cat rather than the 6 branch but as said already, stainless is a lot thinner than mild steel tubing. It's stronger than mild, but heavier, so they make the wall thickness thinner. Make it thinner and it loses it's sound absorbing qaulitys....swings and roundabouts

400hp from a 1.8T is easily achievable but if he thinks he can get that by spending a couple of grand then he's sadly mistaken. I've been in a 360hp 1.8T Corrado (John Malik's at Stealth) and it's crazy fast. It pulls a 4 second dead to 60 at Santa pod running Toyo cut slicks. A Stage 2 Charged VR is good for about 5 secs to 60 but the extra legs of the 6 cylinder will have the edge on the 1.8T. If you don't spec the turbo properly on the 1.8T, the engine will absorb all the boost at high revs and the Charged VR will sail off into the distance. If he's just plonked a standard TT BAM engine

That is one weird looking engine! Potent though :-) The quickest accelerating car I've owned was a MK2 16V Turbo, but my current S/C Corrado VR is faster overall. Golf had 225bhp/tonne and the Corrado has 233bhp/tonne. I used the Golf's standard 16V ratios which meant blistering acceleration and midrange, but only a 139.9 maximum, which was timed at Bruntingthorpe.

Ah Clios.....0-60 rockets, I'll give them that. Get them past 100 though and they just don't have the minerals to keep it going. At 100mph the VR6 has taken it's viagra and is starting to get hard. You'd be surprised what a minimal advantage 4WD is. it's forte is standing launches, but do 10 of them in a scoob and you can wave goodbye to the cluch. A few of us did a standing thrash once, me in my then standard Rado VR, mate 1 in his WRX 2000 and mate 2 in his leon cupra R. Scoob boy got the obvious launch advantage but he only pulled half a car length on us....when my VR got to 5000 rpm, i

Not on the classic shape. About 240 after a full system and remap. The only reason Scoobs give more power with an exhaust is because of the front pipes. The Japs had a gentelman's agreement to cap the power to stop the power struggles. Same with the germans and their 155mph speed limiters. If you look at a stock scoob front pipe, 30% of the throat is blocked off. Fit a full bore front pipe from Hayward & scott and remap the engine to suit and it's a different engine. Lose one or both of the cats and you get further gains. Keeping up with a stock WRX is easy, watch out for the modded o

CTR is lighter than a VR6 (ignore the factory weight, they are over 1300kg), has MUCH shorter gears plus and extra one and has more power. Lower torque, yes, but 8000rpm with 200hp is enough to see off a standard VR easily.

goodridge brake lines??
FishWick replied to snares123's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Corrado VR6 ones are the same as Golf VR6 but Corrado G60/16V are different as the front hoses are a lot shorter. -
Pagid RS15 ;-)

It's when you stomp on the pedal at 100+ that you notice the benefit of the 312s ;-)

The oil is to lubricate the bearings, they don't need cooling as such. The Z-engeering ZR1 had ceramic bearings which didn't need an oil feed though.

I've been warned against cheap injectors by Stealth. The 150 series Bosch are classed as cheapies believe it or not, so I really wouldn't recommend using anything of a lesser quality than those tbh. I know they're pricey for what they are, but it's cheaper than the potential problems you'd get from a cheapy injector failing. This Ozzy company might be able to help - http://www.injectorsonline.com/indivprod.php?c=1

£500? Sheesh. The standard orange tops are £45 each from my local bosch dealer. As the reds are the next ones up, I wouldn't have thought there'd be that much of a price difference. Are you sure they priced up Bosch 150 series injectors for you and not the expensive short body ones TTs etc use?

Thanks again guys. Some good responses, I was expecting people to say "What the heck is that?" LOL! I'm only aware of one other Schimmel log user in the UK and it's in a 3.1 charged Rado running 10psi. It's currently making 338hp with 311lb/ft. It's his long throw crank that makes so much torque, but top end is limited as a result, hence the relatively low hp....it just can't rev like a normal VR :-) His Schimmel log was lower than body temperature after 13 runs on the dyno, so it works :-)

Cheers guys, here's a couple more if it built up and ready to roll. The injectors will be swapped out for the red tops on fitment day though. It arrived in plain alloy, but I painted it myself and detailed the "SP" logo, what do you think? It's going to be a chore fitting it. Alternator and alternator bracket, PAS pump and bracket etc all have to come off just to get at one sodding bolt! And then the radiator needs modifying as the throttle will hit the fan shroud, I might even need to fit a slimline Kenlowe. I'll let you know how it goes. details of schimmels products here - www.spturbo.
-
Slim - Yes I think you might have some headaches. I'm not sure, it's just what I've been told. Mine's coming off anyway to fit the Schimmel log manifold, so I'll let you know!
-
Yeah that's the plan, get the throttle away from the exhaust manifold and it makes intercooler pipework so much easier to route! Will it alter the torque curve? It definitely would on a Normally aspirated engine but I don't think the bottom end would suffer as much as you think, but as it's primarily for forced induction, it's fine. It's exactly how the 1.8T engine is configured and they're not lacking in torque ;-) I'll be using a Corrado G60 intercooler and water injection + 12psi pulley (hoping to get 10 to the throttle), so basically it's a home brew Stage 3 for the Corrado :-)

Fresh from America, my Schimmel Short runner intake - Which takes me one step closer to the this -

My gasket arrived today, snapped in half. Awesome put it in a jiffy bag which was rather stupid I thought. I shall request the new one arrive in a box! BTW, you have to drop the alternator to get at the bottom left manifold bolt. Oh the fun! It's not that bad actually. Head light out, air box out, remove alty bolts, pull alty through headlight hole. I doubt much clearancing is required if it does foul the alternator.

Cool, cheers for that mate. I'll forget about it for now.

I'm not sure Vince knows them well enough yet to be honest. I wasn't set out to scare anyone by the way, just intrigued to see what others are like! I've only got a month of warranty left so I'll get it checked out.

Do any of your chargers sound like this? :- http://media.putfile.com/MOV00576 Just a little concerned as a forum in America is discussing it and they're saying it's shagged bearings. Even brand new ones are doing it. They're describing the noise as a 'coffee grinder'. I've always been told it's gearbox chatter. Mine's made that noise for almost a year and not got any louder.....but that one was send to Vortech where it received new bearings! I'm a bit concerned now ^o)

Interesting or annoying vr6 moments?
FishWick replied to harry's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Yep. A 535d absolutely annihilated me the other day. I'm sorry but no VR6, charged or not, can muster enough grunt to argue with over 450lb/ft torque. Yeah charging makes a difference but you need a decent IC, at least 10psi and shorter gears to make a MASSIVE difference. -
Your car might be heavier than that if you put it on a weighbridge. The VW manual states that my Corrado VR6 is 1210Kg, but on a weighbridge it's actually 1320Kg! If any of you read Evo, you'll find a lot of manufacturers are under estimating the unladen weights or their vehicles. Oh and I never got it dynoed with the 268s, Schrick and TB. Somewhere around 220hp I think as that's what Stealth usually see from most 2.9s with those mods.

Supercharging with 264 Cams ?
FishWick replied to VRTrickster's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Yeah that's true, LOL!. That 70 odd CC difference doesn't make much difference anyway. We all know the OBD2 2.8 makes the same as an OBD1 2.9 :-) Vince was saying the 2.9 squish area being larger than the 2.8s doesn't lend itself that well to charging. The 2.8s seem sweeter in both N/A and charged form to me. I'm not a great fan of the 2900 tbh. I can't see the point of it. VW should have just 3 litred it from the start :-) Anyway, yeah it is harder to map forced induction with sport cams as you have overlap to consider, but you can get some nifty vernier sprockets for VRs which should he -
Yeah you're right, my dealer took a bit cohersing to get one but you can have mine if you want it. PM me your address and I'll shove it in the post.
