  1. Agree. Pete, if you want a good charger and can afford a new one, buy the stage 1 from c2 motorports or buy a second hand vortech v1 or v2 based kit off vwvortex classifieds. You don't want a v9 (VF kit) as it uses unique brackets which you can't buy separately and doesn't produce the boost of a v1/2 which flow much better and are better suited to the vr6. If you require any other bits c2 will sell them to you, unlike VF who have really shot themselves in the foot when it comes to supplying parts. I'm currently ordering some stuff from a c2 distributor for my v1. "Shipping to UK, no problem, a
  2. I thought that, hence my earlier comments. I say go with a v1 or v2 and you can buy all the bits separately from c2 motorsports. VF are only interested in selling complete kits new. If your the second owner they're not interested. Go with a C2 kit or C2 add ons, stuff VF. [ Edited Wed Nov 10 2004, 12:28AM ]
  3. the v1 and v2 use the same bracket/pulley with and without ac, just the belt length is different. Not sure about the v9 as it uses a different bracket and tensioning system than the v1/2 but I would have thought that it was just the belt length which is different. The z-charger is different as the ac and non -ac have the same belt length but the non-ac has an extra pulley which goes where the ac pulley would normally be. If any of that makes sense.
  4. I'd e-mail VF as I'm not sure they like selling bits separately. They use a different charger than other kits such as c2/ams who use the v1 and v2 units. You can buy the parts for these separately off-the-shelf. That's why I'd go for a v1 or v2 and use c2motorsports add ons.
  5. if your running 100% veg oil though, you have to thin it down with something like petrol.
  6. don't think you have to convert anything but it has to be an older engine(not direct injection) with a bosch injector pump and if the oil has been used it's got to be filtered.
  7. You can use veg oil in this country as long as you declare it.
  8. You can buy them new and used from the USA: new supercharger kits cost $3500 + used kits cost anything betweeen $1000 and $3000 look at: www.c2motorsports.net www.vf-engineering.com www.vwvortex.com (go to marketplace - forced induction classifieds)
  9. Power is v. similar to the Z although it actually feels like it's got more low down pull with strong top end. I've got a smaller pulley, software and injectors to go on yet so hopefully it should be around the 300 bhp mark soon.
  10. The samcos are just off-the-shelf unlike the Z-kit which has custom made elbows.
  11. With all the talk of chargers recently, I thought I'd post some pics to show the differences between the z and vortech:
  12. Most people use just a cotton gauze conical filter like a k@n; one which fits best in the space available and has the correct capacity for 250+ bhp.
  13. Great news Pete, glad it's up and running without too many problems
  14. economy is reasonable as the charger isn't producing much boost under 4k and you can still get 32 mpg cruising on the motorway. Use the revs though and you'll be seeing low 20s at best.
  15. That's a great result, you must be well pleased with the figures. FI transforms the performance in the upper rev band. Be interesting to see what it does at Stealth.
  16. video/sound clip of a v1: http://www.ohiovw.com/cars/aaron/blower.mpg
  17. You can get this thing called a pre-charger made by k@n. It's basically a bag which goes over the filter and gives it a bit more protection from splashes of water and dust. There should also be a plastic splash tray under the wing which should keep the water out. My filter has been there for about 2 years with no problems. Just avoid big puddles!
  18. That's great news Mark, glad it went without a hitch. I've just realised that the charger has been rebuilt and will need running in, so it's probably best to keep the revs low (think the run-in period is 350 miles - see instructions) so it's ready to be thrashed by the time you get to Stealth.
  19. I think your car might be obd 1 with the heated film obd2 style maf which is less sensitive than the obd 1 maf. Late corrado vr6s had this maf too.
  20. Mark, is your car obd1 or obd2? I'm asking as it has the obd 2 style maf (but was also fitted to late obd 1 cars) This could explain why your car runs smoothly with the maf after the charger, or it could be something to do with the spirals of air created by the vortech being less turbulent than those form the z onto a less sensitive maf (?)
