It would appear that you have one of these "Lifetime" boxes i.e the oil is not to be changed and is a sealed unit (Yeah!! Right!!!) There are places in and around London that can help you .. places such as C&R Enterprises (ask for my mate Steve Creswell!) BRMotorsport ( Brian Ricketts) etc. It may be worth taking the car into the Stealers for a Diagnosis ONLY as I'm not sure, but you may have a "Learning" Autobox i.e one that's addaptive to your driving style. There was also a modification to the box wherby a new magnet was fitted to "Trap" the debris from the clutches this also had somet

I'm affraid you'll have to be a little more acurate on the description in order to help properly.... Without being to cheeky, does the car drive alright at low speeds, then when you accelerate it "Slips"?? Or does it balk a gear say from 1st to 3rd? have you tried manually selection gears to see if all are there? have you checked the fluid at all?? Is it brown and burnt almond type smelling or is it nice and pink? you see what I mean about being a little more accurate, all of the above symptoms help us gain a better picture of how to advise... also your locality would be helpful obviously you

Well here's the finale.... I took the car over to the local dealers to get on the diagnostic machine and well..I was on the right track. Apparently fuel pump relay failure is quite a common problem especially in Golfs and Corrados, it wasn't expected to be in a Passat, then again the dealers haven't really seen my vehicle to often, in fact It was accused of being an engine conversion at one point... Brill, Luv it!!!! Anyway, the car was put on the machine and it was discovered that the car had the wrong relay fitted in the first place and as a result it had damaged the Votlage Stabiliser relay

It seems to do the rounds this one, it's been on two other forums that I participate on... Can we not trace this MF and sends him a virus or Summit??? Regards 28v6r

The latest result is this... it takes 3 mins approx before restarting. I 've changes the fuel relay (first relay in on the bottom row from the door) and although the situation has improved and the stuttering has gone, I'm still having problems, can anyone show me what the fuel relay looks like i.e the position of the terminals etc Please? Regards 28v6r

Yep! it is, there are two rows of relays and underneath are the fuses... if that's any help:-) Regards 28v6r

OK, the car in question is a 95 Passat with a AAA engine. So here's the deal.... The car can go for ages 2 maybe three hours constant driving, turn the ignition off and... It won't start! It takes 2-3 mins for that " something to cool down" then it will start as if nothing was wrong. During the no starting period, there is no smell of petrol, the engine turns over wildly as it's a new battery, but won't fire. My thinking is this, that the fuel relay is locking up and then cools slightly enough to start the car again. The problem is what number is the relay and where is it located?? I'm guessin

Can I ask ...What does an Oil accountant do for a living then??? Regards 28v6r -
A temporary fix by the way, Go to B&Q and ask at the plumbers section for Silicone Grease, put a liberal amount all around the coil pack, BUT NOT IN THE CONNECTIONS, You can apply all around the connections though, then to stop "Arcing" remove each indiviual lead and smear a little on the inside of the rubber ONLY, DO NOT GET ANY ON THE ACTUAL CONNECTOR otherwise you will defeat the purpose of the ignition lead by shorting it out. Silicone Grease acts as an insulator and removes any arcing on the ignition side, Been there done this and it's still working!!! can't afford a new pack at pres

I hate to say this guys, but on a run up from London where the car came from, My Estate returns around 34-35 mpg @ 80 - 90mph, I had trouble believing this until I did the mileage calcs and it's true!!! In and around town I've managed anywhere between 24-27mpg and peeps, here's the kicker.... My car is an Estate!!!! I haven't even tampered around yet with the fuel and a serviced the car yet!!! I'd like to know more of what people get per gallon, not that I'm complaining just interested..Oh! and I don't use Optimax, just plain ol' unleaded. Opinions please.... Regards 28v6r

power steering pump tapping... now ok
28v6r replied to ingham's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Not that I was aware of, have you tried listen to the tapping with the ol' screwdriver to the ear trick?? or obtain an old stethescope and listen to the noise... Does the tapping rise with the revs or is it constant? where does the sound originate, top of the engine, side, front or rear? what kinda tapping do you hear? loud, hard knocking or a more gentle tapping, which would you say it was? If you can answer these, then it may guide us in the right direction, or someone may have had the same problem. Good Luck, let us know how you get on. Okaaaayyyyy!!!!!! Now that I have your attention, we're talking radiator hoses!! I Just had the baby out this morning, and although she's not overheating, I'm getting a little concerned at the hardness of the hoses.... I (Pardon the technical term) "squished" them this morning and they feel errrrmmmm... very hard, not able to be crushed, but able to be flexed a little only, like very little!! should I be concerned??? I had the heads done on both my Audi, and My Bimmer and they never hardened like this and the Audi was a Turbo no less!! Is this a sign of impending doom??? (I'm unemployed at p

Yeah, but then there's the fun element , if you know how.... You steam up the inside of the car, sit at the traffic lights with your foot on the footbrake and "Gently" pump the pedal..... The car rises and sags at the back as if you're gettin' it on Dude!!! The looks for that alone are priceless! %-6 !amazed !amazed :! :! Regards 28v6r

Then I spotted this one well down the VR6 listing, and bid on it and well.... the rest as they say, is history. Regards 28v6r

Got one cheaper than that .... Bought off Ebay!! paid a tenner + £5 quid carriage, it's metal, and it works perfect without any damage to the leads. Try keeping an eye on Ebay they appear there all the time under "Vr6" Good Luck! Regards 28v6r
