Did you pay through PayPal? If so, you can claim money back through them.
  3. VR6 Shortlist - Thoughts

The red mighjt not be to your taste, but it's R-reg, 3 door, has air con and you should be able to knock him down to £1.8... http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CARS_popup.jsp?searchform=&modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&photo=1&state=block&sort=3&hassearched=Y&make=VOLKSWAGEN&min_pr=75&source=0&model=GOLF&max_pr=3000&miles=1500&agerange=3&mileage=&postcode=hp15+7et&variant=VR6&bodyid=0&trim=&fuelid=0&colour=&transmissionid=0&keywords=&ukcarsearch_full.x=71&ukcarsearch_full.y=7&start=4&distance=230&adcategory=CARS&channel=CARS&id=200717281490802
  4. VR6 Shortlist - Thoughts

You definitely want to keep your climatronic, so a car with air con already fitted would save you a lot of money on sourcing new air con rad/condenser/pipework etc. False economy to buy a non-aircon VR.
  5. LOL live radio down under

This is an old one, but unlike many Internet yarns, is actually true!
  6. VR6 Shortlist - Thoughts

You should have a word with someone that goes to insurance disposal auctions. A stolen/recovered Highline that's had the seats stripped out of it would be ideal. Once you've sold off the surplus engine it would work out very, very cheap.
  7. Private Plates

Stick R4 VWC on retention. It will come in handy if you ever buy a mk4/mk5 in the future!
  8. VR6 Shortlist - Thoughts

The mk1 Audi A3 never had a V6 option, so a suitable subframe wouldn't be available for a straight fit. Nice idea though! Fitting the running gear to a mk4 Polo would also make for a very quick car, but the Polo's looks aren't to everyone's tastes. If I was you, I would definitely go for a mulberry highline, even if it means having to get your Polo handles etc resprayed.
  9. Seeing as the gearbox is gonna need reshelling anyway, you should DEFINITELY go Syncro! http://cgi.ebay.de/VW-Golf-VR6-Syncro_W0QQitemZ170104633062QQihZ007QQcategoryZ9873QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

  11. R32 engined mk3 on you tube

It's about time! Does anyone know where I can find more info on this car? Vortex?
  12. I bought a PC a few weeks ago and polished the cabrio with it just before GTI Spring Fest. The paintwork was dull & covered with swirls & light scratches before and I was stunned at how good it looked afterwards. I use the Sonus SFX 1 & 2 polishes with mine, with the Megs glaze and Megs NXT wax. PC is well worth the money!
  13. Car polishing kit...

Just resized the pics for ya. I really rate Autoglym SRP. Buzzark is correct that it's actual polishing properties are limited - it's more of a glaze, but on paintwork that is in pretty good condition anyway, it produces a great shine with very little effort.
  14. For 27k I would want a car that does the lot. 911s are an absolute hoot to drive, but they're not a lot of use when you want to get a flatpack wardrobe from Ikea or pick your mates up from the pub. If I had 27k to spend on a car, there would be no question whatsoever - it would have four little circles on the front and an RS4 badge on the back. Two days later it would have a Revo remap and 450BHP. Yeah, baby! But for £13-14k the mk4 R32 is a bit of a bargain really when you look at what you get. We shouldn't slag off the R32 in any way. We should be glad that VW are continuing to evolve the 6-cylinder Golf concept when it is such a low volume, "niche" car. At the end of the day, VW could, if they wanted to, go the same way as Subaru & Mitsubishi and base all the performance Golfs around four cylinders, 16 valves and a turbo, but they know that there are enthusiasts like us out there who want the refinement & lovely noises that you can only get from a sweet six. Long live the R32, that's what I say. Well, that is, until the R36 comes out, anyway!
  15. Golf 2.8 V6 4MOTION - any good?

The 4Motion is a great base car to work from if you want to do some modding. They are relatively cheap to buy and will make 300BHP easily if you fit a 'charger and the haldex 4wd will allow you to make use of all that power (unlike in a FWD mk3 VR6). The standard-looking exterior would make it a real sleeper too. Definitely worth a look if you find one for the right price.
  16. As good as the R32 is, I doubt it could keep up with a BMW E46 M3, which has 100BHP more under the bonnet. A fully loaded R32 with DSG costs £27k brand new. For that money, you can get a mint 4 year old M3 with less than 50k on the clock. Maybe even one with the SMG paddleshift 'box, which is not as good as the VW DSG, but not far off. So which one would you go for?
  17. LOL @ PHM!!! Anyone got a link to the Top Gear feature on the mk5 R32?
  18. That was the mk4 R32. I would expect a mk5 R32 with DSG to be at least a second quicker, so maybe the original post refers to the mk5. The Audi TT V6 (which has the same engine as the R32) put in a time of 1.32.7, which is still better than the CTR's 1.36.5 You can't blame BOTH times on favourable weather conditions. Face it - the Golf R32 is superior to the Civic type R in every respect. It's faster, handles better, sounds better, looks nicer, has a nicer interior, is more refined and has far more presence. You would have to stick Pavarotti & Dawn French in the back of the R32 for the CTR to stand any sort of a chance. You may as well be comparing Giorgio Armani with George at Asda, or an entrecote steak with a McBurger & cheese. As soon as the cabrio sells and I have my shiny new R32, I will happily pee all over a CTR on the dragstrip. Then somebody lend me a mk3 VR6 with a Schrick, cams & a 3.94 FD and I will happily humiliate it again.
  19. Antera309's VR6 Cabrio

Thanks Paul! I would definitely prefer to sell the cab to a true 'Dubber who will turn it into a full-on show car and I'd love to see it get a feature in PVW one day! mk3 cabs are gonna be the next big thing I reckon!!
  20. Antera309's VR6 Cabrio

Just to update the thread, supercharger kit has now been sold and the engine returned to standard. Further mods will have to be down to the car's next owner, as the temptation to buy a mk4 R32 has now become overwhelming and so the cabrio is up for sale: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140111350834 Thanks to all those that have followed this project and made such positive comments every step of the way. The project has had its ups & downs but, all in all, it's been great fun and definitely a worthwhile diversion from the daily grind of work & wife. Hopefully the next owner will be able to build on what I've done and truly take the cabrio to the next level!
  21. Engine looks pretty much untouched at the top. Have you checked out the underside? Sump & oil pickup all OK?
  22. How's this for a car.

The McMerc SLR is one of those cars that you have to see in the metal - saw one (in silver) on the M3 a few months back... Looked like the freakin' Batmobile! And the noise is unbelievable! If I won the lottery, it would be either a Porsche Carrera GT or one of these...
  23. Need some feedback on engine mod ideas

I used to have a pair of Schrick 268 cams in my VR. Along with a BMC CDA filter, milltek exhaust and raceland 6 branch manifold and a custom remap it made a smooth, reliable 205BHP with no noticable loss of fuel economy or road manners. Later on, I sold the cams and went supercharged. This turned out to be a very bad move which almost wrecked my engine. I wish I'd have held onto the cams now. Likewise, head work is alway a good idea, especially if the head needs a recon anyway.
