  1. well, its only cause i know my '93 has a coilpack! then i checked in the bentley and it said all '93 on's did, and only '92 cars had the dizzy. i'm quite good at theory...but useless when it comes to actually working on the car (well, for more complex stuff anyway)
  2. haynes for body/suspension related stuff, bentley for engine (can get it from amazon.co.uk), costs £40ish tho...but worth it.
  3. well, unless you can see where its coming from, the best thing to do is go to a garage and get a coolant pressure test done to locate the leak.
  4. not sure its an M8 (i will double check tomorrow), but you're right...its called a spline. go to halfords, or any local tool shop (use yell.com to locate) and buy a set, it'll come in handy. if you try using a torx or an allen key theres a good chance they'll round, as unless they've been undone recently they'll be very tight. also a good idea to get a flexi extension bar, or ball end allen keys for the front allen key bolts (where the main part of the inlet joins the lower inlet) as they are very easy to round.
  5. actually, its '93 on (i'm sure vrmonsters car was actually built in '92, but registered later)
  6. also, the leads for dizzy version are longer(as well as having the king lead) than the coilpack leads.
  7. yeah, i said its not necessarily an issue...for this reaosn precisely. but its certainly warrants a few q's i'd say...such as 'has the wishbone bushes been replaced'
  8. yeah, cause i'm gonna go to vw and get ripped off. my cars 11 years old remember, it ain't worth that much. besides we have loads of independent garages round here. i had the diagnostics checked before i went to germany, and the only fault was the hall sender. i'll check all the wiring...think it tells me how in the bentley.
  9. might be worth enquiring whther the timing chians and runners have been replaced...though with later cars it's less of an issue (though i've still yet to 100% confirm this). check all electrical items carefully. when i was looking for a vr6, mine was the first i saw that didn't have either a window or a sunroof not working. here's another one, if you really want to get picky. the date of manufacture is printed on the underside of the front wishbones, if its at least as old as the date of registration of the vehicle (and it may be older as some parts are stored for a while before being used) yo
  10. weren't you saying to me just the other day pete that you didn't need a sub for the tunes you listen to?! lol what type of box you got it in? sealed is the way to go
  11. reckon they do one for a mkIV polo as well? my girlfriend keeps spilling my coke when she picks up mac d's for me!
  12. nah, no room...girlfriend takes up most of the bed! lol
  13. it doesn't have one as far asi know either antera, but i'll check the manual later. it would stand to reason though. theres deffo no pump activity.
  14. they drop down 1 bar, not 1/2 (or so my bentley manual tells me)
  15. its ain't buzzing. the bit i dont get is that there was no prob with it, i turn the car off cause of the water pump prob, so how can it have packed up when its not being used!

    HELP!

yeah, already thought of that...its deffo fine. the aux pump is working for sure.
  17. see, thats the thing...i've spent so much its not worth swapping it for another, cause i'll have lost that money. if i ever get it running right at least its had timing chains done, and other expensive stuff.
  18. ETKA and the bentley manual say so! way to be for sure on obd2 is to remove the control module from the abs pump, and count how many valaves there are...10 for edl, 8 without. lot of hassle. alternatively see if theres any part no's and i can check them on etka. Just read your reply again.........................I thought you were sure they had traction control as it stated it in the manual's ?! yeah, i am sure...but was telling you how to check it if you wanted confirmation. the bentley covers all models, and brake system was shared by the gti's, so it says how to tell on those. it states
  19. '92 (and maybe very very early '93) OBD1's are dizzy '93-mid '95 is OBD1 coilpack mid '95 on is OBD2, all coilpack.
  20. nah, not worth keeping the vw stamps, a stamp from anywhere will do. i can't see magnecor leads being worth it over standard vw ones, that cost £100. thought you only recently got leads though kobi? if you want somewhere more local, try tony at automotive solutions in sonning on 01189 699903, though he's moving workshops at the mo so is hard to track down (i know, i owe him money and can't get hold of him!)

    HELP!

  22. thats funny i have the fuel pump page of the bentley manual open right now. not sure what engines these are, but the AAA (whhc is the vr6) has a more powerful pump than the ABA and the ACC...presuming one of those is the 8v. i'd get a vr6 one if i were you.
