  1. yep....buy it back unless they want silly money...as a general rule i reckon bits off a standard vr6 would fetch an easy £1500.
  2. i'm fortunate that mine has the early, pre-airbag, 'rado type wheel as standard (as its an early car)....its quite small and really chunky! thats only been put back on as i'm selling the car, i did have a momo millenium on it.
  3. i'd replace the front strut to hub bolts/nuts and the rear strut to beam bolts/nuts as well.
  4. maybe you'd change your mind if you'd seen what i've seen nick you can't say its propeganda by chain manufacturers anyway, as they're made by vw and they say they don't need doin! lol its possible to check on the condition of your top runners (its the runners not the chains themselve that are the prob) quite easily...i'm gonna do a guide when i get the time. basically, inlet manifold and cam cover have to be removed so you can have a peek in. as for parts costs.... timing chain parts total about £160 from gsf (or twice that from vw for identical parts) clutch is £80 from vw (they're pretty de
  5. you been out jogging...fitness test is a big deal. what they wanna see is someone who refuses to give up
  6. that sucks, but at least you're ok. i know of a nice red vr thats for sale
  7. having just put my vr6 back to standard i am actually shocked that its still handling quite well!!! i suspect my 2 degrees of camber and poly bushes have something to do with it...but the handling isn't bad at all, ride is good...is a but numb on the limit mind, but its liveable.
  8. i'm selling a decent susp kit in the classifieds section
  9. is the fuel coming out the fuel lines undernath brake servo?
  10. i've been enraged reading this. what a w*nker. do you have his address? go round there, its the only way.
  11. gotta be a typo...surely they mean £1500
  12. does sound like you've damaged your h/g, i also suyspect your temp guage is malfunctioning. geta compression test done, and a leak test...then go from there. if those tests give acceptable results i'd just change the coolant and not worry about it.
  13. answered the q there spot on....the US 'rado box is different, but the UK ones is the same as golf.
  14. yeah...peloquins are cheap at the mo cause of the exchange rate.
  15. theres something very familiar about this....catch me on MSN later and we'll chat then.
  16. is worth checking you oil level (17mm allen key bolt on front of gearbox, remove it and with car level the oil should be upto that hole)....but as i know from chatting to you you've had whining for a while. it'll get worse and worse will the 'box eventually implodes though, as fab's said, they do whine a fraction anyway...my rebuilt one does very slightly even! (nothing like an MR2's gearbox tho...you should hear them! lol) 6 speed is a very expensive option....be much cheaper to get a rebuild with a lower final drive. the middle cost option is a rebuild with lower FD and a quaife ATB diff [
  17. buy my second hand (only 1500 miles old) bilsteins
  18. don't see why not....they're uprated and shortened dampers after all.
  19. be aware that they don't always rattle before failing. i am in the process of doing a guide on how to check the condition of the top 'blade' runner (this is the part that tends to show wear first)...it can be checked fairly easily, i just got so much on my plate at the mo that its gonna take me a few weeks.
  20. pull the fuel pump fuse (no. 18 i think) out and crank engine for a few secs, then replace and start. as long as its a new tensioner bolt then it shouldn't need bleeding.
  21. it'll sound like a byplane...dependent on how bad it is of course.
  22. vw sell leatherette ones for about £15...is very high quality actually.
