    Emission Failure!

Hi, My son's late 95 obd2 golf VR6 has just failed MOT on emission, CO on 2nd fast Idle started at 0.8, but after running for 10 mins did drop to 0.24, but quite down to 0.200 so failed! The car had been sitting for 3 years prior to driving it 15 miles to MOT I have cleaned the air filter and will take for a blast on motorway prior to retest, however, ran a diagnostic on the car with following results...please could I have your input to see if this flags up any issues... Absolute Throttle Position ..........3.9% Engine RPM........736 RPM Calculated Load Value ....2.7% Timing Advance (C

  2. Lambda is well with in spec. (+/- 5%) it looks like the cat wasnt hot enough for the test, or it is inefficient. Let the engine get up to temperature (90C) and hold the RPM at ~3000rpm for a good period of time. This will get the cat hot, they need to be hot to work properly.

    Detailing training?

If not you could get a bonnet from a scrapper and just practise and experiment.

  4. Try and clean out the holes as much as possible as they'll be full of dirt and tap the key in with a hammer to make sure of a good seat, a dose of WD40 at the joint to the carrier and time to sit could work them a bit too. I just did mine to replace the rear abs sensors and they were the worst part of the job, the method that worked in the end was this then holding onto the car body, resting my foot on the Allen key and pushing with my leg, not kicking though just gradual building I force to avoid rounding the bolts

  7. If insurance companies paid what peoples cars are worth instead of trying to give scrap or trade value all the time maybe people wouldn't feel the need to get compensation. My partner got hit from behind while stationary they offered her £250 for her car of which she refused so they told her to get comparisons I looked on autotrader found 2 cars similar mileage and age and condition for just over £1000 but they said no and showed her a crappy white one that was up for £350 no history high mileage no comparison. They paid her £350 so she then claimed whiplash and got another £1700 and all becau
