Timothy_Ellis reacted to vr6 bez in Mk4 vr6
It turned out to be the ecu. I had to buy a second hand one from Germany for £100 then pay £100 to get it coded to the car. Seams to be spot on now ??

Ecs tuning is really good too, but you gotta watch it some times they price gouge.

I use http://vwspares.co.uk/ for quite a few bits and bobs of course they are pattern parts but I've never had an issue
ABS sensors, heat exchange, water pumps, slave cylinders etc...

Hi mate.
Id recommend clutch as your gearbox will be off, clutch slave cylinder always good to replace if original, oil cooler and crack pipe and thermostat house if not been replaced too.
Oil / filter change with Syntha Silver 10/40.
Water pump - make sure you get the version with metal fins.

Timothy_Ellis got a reaction from nmyer89 in New to VR6.
I'm really into ecs tuning. They've always came through with fast shipping. I have heard of others but I've never needed to search other sites. They always have what I need.

Hi @mk4 gti golf 2.8
If you click the "community" tab at the top where the menu's are, you can find the classifieds section along with the other sections to ask questions.
Let me know if you still struggle? !
Cheers

Timothy_Ellis reacted to VR6Pete in 3.2 oil pressure light randomly flashing
There is a difference between low oil and low pressure, yes lack of oil can cause low pressure but also blockage can as well.
I would start with replacing the sensor, they are situated on top of oil filter housing and do not cost a great deal and easier / cleaner job than dropping the pan. If light still continues to flash then time to drop the pan I would guess.
How many miles has it done?

Timothy_Ellis reacted to The Monk in Exhaust now caked in soot.
Ah Pete. I was expecting some discolouration, just not a mm or 2 of soot.
I've had a read that rich running and crap fuel can cause this too.
Book states fuel as 95, not 97, so that's what she has, but I don't put known brands in, she has the 95 from the costcutter petrol station down the road. Never notice any difference when the occasional tank of BP goes in.
On another note, the new crank sensor is preventing hot start issues, so that's a good result.
Cheers for the reply either way matey. Hope you've sorted the belt.

Just cams and exhaust. Stock air and everything. Waiting on finishing my caddy before I dive deep into the vr.

I'll look more into it. I might get better, but It likes to get down and I don't stop it.

No no you need to take it to a garage and get the wheel alignment done then calibrate the sensor

Such is the case on 98% of things to do on a vr.

Thanks. It's definitely more fun to drive. Still a long way to go til it's finished, but hey I got a motor to swap for my caddy! Haha.
