  1. I was looking for comments about the so called specialist insurance companies versus the run of the mill compare my meerkat and save money at the supermarket dot com ones!
  2. Insurance is due for renewal in January - No company will quote me unless its within 30 days so I said my renewal date was within 30 dates for a roundabout quote. Bearing in mind I have only 1 yrs no claims (at renewal date) and the current policy started out with a Golf Cabrio and I have had 3 other cars since so the real amount for 1year is unknown...until now. 2 detailed over the phone quotes with so called specialist insurance companies - both around £900!! My car is a standard VR with the only change being the wheels, so I went the internet quote route and have 3 different companies offe
  3. IF your changing from stock tyre/wheel size of 205/50/15 to 195/45/16 your speedo will only be out by 0.7% i.e. if you think your doing 60mph you would be doing 59.6mph.....hardly worth worrying about. Click the arrow for the calculator. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
  4. Are yu using the VR fan set up or the original golf FTI ones?
  5. I was going to pop along the coast and infiltrate but the missus wants to go up north and see my family.....even I don't wanna go see my family let alone miss this meet for it!!
  6. Easiest is to take the block off as I described then check it for cracks and signs of leaks. To be honest of its the thermo housing change the whole block and seal for the sake of £35 quid its worth it.
  7. Check around the front right hand side of the engine block for item number 1 in the picture below. You can easily see it as it has 3 coloured wiring plugs going into it, As you can see this has the thermostat housing bolted to it and also a few other pipes connect to it, check none of these are leaking. If they are its quite an easy job to remove and fit a new housing. Price all in for the new housing, gasket and coolant £35. As said in previous posts make sure you get G12 coolant and don't mix it with other coloured coolants.
  8. I bought one was £20.98 inc postage and its ideal not too flimsy and fitted really well. Wasn't FK was a non branded type.
  9. Removed my Eco-valve today as I was doing some engine work......drove it home (15 miles) and I can honestly say the car felt terrible....lack of power throughout the rev range....... Joking lol its off and first impressions is that it is no different. Haven't really pushed the engine yet as I have just fitted a new thermo housing so want that to settle in first and check its not leaking. Will look at MPG over the coming week see if there is any drastic change.
  10. the quote...........That is just somebody's interpretation of a single paragraph from an article in VOSA's magazine "Matters of Testing" (October 2010) where possible changes to the current MoT are explored.......wasn't from me it was part of the cut and paste I did from the search. Just to clarify lol.
  11. Is it any good guys? Is it as good or even better than MW2?
  12. Did a quick search for the list of 2011 changes and found this...regarding the list in the original post. That is just somebody's interpretation of a single paragraph from an article in VOSA's magazine "Matters of Testing" (October 2010) where possible changes to the current MoT are explored. The actual text reads... Quote: Other items – such as headlamp bulb and unit incompatibility, headlamp levelling devices and illegal engine ‘chipping’ – will need further thought before we can get a workable solution for MOT stations.
  13. Yeah I think they just put the wr0ng bolts in as a few people have said this. The box had been opened but as the guy was German he didn't really understand what I meant when I called him, anyway got a full refund and another set on the way with correct bolts.
  14. Quote of this thread by a long way lol
  15. mate I dont know you therefore I wouldnt do that staying on topic only- the rubbishing of the ecotec valve ! ;) Well mine is Blue therefore it has to work!!!!
  16. Ben my apologies I thought your where casting aspersions on me not the fuel economy! Anyway back on track....surely only the people who have used one of these valves before and after fitting can really say if they work? As for long term engine problems having 'googled' the world I can't find anything stating anything but I did notice that any Eco-valve evidence sems to be provided by eco-tech and one other lab.
  17. Ben as usual you read fu*k all ...where did I say this was a good idea fitting one?
  18. I have ZERO BHP gain I can say that for sure.....dyno read out 172bhp. Ah saying that I didnt run it without the valve on....but I would say common sense says no BHP gain.
  19. Ben have I upset you or something as you seem to a little angry.....the dyno guys have a constant reading of fuelling whilst the run goes ahead....any problems with fuelling and he tells you. I'm in no way an expert but he did tell others to adjust fuelling as necessary...mine he said had no problems and was 'spot on'. I think the problem here is the wording...In my opinion over fuelling is using considerably more fuel constantly .....however 'allowing briefly for a richer mixture' is yes over fuelling but for maybe a split second to in there words 'eliminate the flat spots'. Now Ben I have no
  20. I've got one of these on my VR as it was one when I bought it so can't say whether it's any good or not. However I can say it does not over fuel in anyway whatsoever, whilst on the rolling road yesterday my fuelling was spot on all the way across the rev range. My fuel economy is no different to anyone else's I averaged 30-33mpg on a recent long motorway run. Just out of interest where is yours situated mate....mine is here
