Thats awful, people need to know exactly what these places are like. There are still stone chip marks under the new paint on the bonnet on mine but thats the least of my issues to be honest.

I advise everyone to avoid using this body shop on basis that the work is horrendous and the part owner is very aggressive. In my case he went to the extent of criminal damage by cutting multiple wiring looms on the car, not to mention afterwards threatening to take a hammer and smash the car to pieces.

Mate, Ive just read from start to finish..
What an utter bunch of cowboys... Ultimate cunny funts to cut the loom and all your other nightmares.
Obviously did not know what they were doing with a Mk3 or just wanted the job out the door as soon as so they could carry on with other things. Bunch of tosspots mate..

Gutted. Sadly it would appear i'm in a slightly similar postion to yourself. Went to collect mine today after paint was done, could have cried. I could see sanding marks through the paint in various places, scratches on the fresh paintwork an even parts which had been cut straight through back to the undercoat through serious excessive buffing/compounding of paintwork. So I feel your pain..

Looking well, thats definatley dedication that is. Mines in bodyshop at the mo having bits done, but nothing like yours, just tidying it up a bit so it looks good. Yours is gonna look like new when you've finished.

rsweeney reacted to bennyk in 96 vr6 1st ever project build thread,
I did something against my religion this week and paid someone else to do something on the VR, I had the gear and my US hand brake gaiter's re-trimmed in alcantara to match the seat centre's. I was looking at changing the gear gaiter and knob but I really like the oe full leather ones and I'm really pleased with the outcome, the only problem is that I'm now looking at other parts of the interior wondering what else I could get done!

rsweeney got a reaction from VR6Pete in Auto to manual conversion golf vr6
I'm planning to collect parts for the conversion and do it after the paintwork next summer. Would plan to remove all of the auto wiring and ecu
As far as parts go :
02A gearbox
Flywheel
Clutch kit and fork
Starting Motor
Clutch master and slave cylinder + pipe work
Clutch and Brake pedal - separate items?
gear selector and cables
throttle cable
Not sure on :
engine ecu
wiring for starting motor
driveshafts
Any ideas on these would be great !

rsweeney got a reaction from VR6Pete in Tappet replacements
The two things sound unrelated , but if they do need replacing these are genuine lifters for the 12v vr6 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Genuine-INA-VW-Golf-MK3-2-8-VR6-Hydraulic-Tappet-Lifter-Set-034109309AD-/262002716311?hash=item3d00942e97:g:LdUAAOSwjVVVy6Fp

rsweeney got a reaction from VR6Pete in VR6 rusted coolant pipe, flange, input thing?
although it looks corroded if it isn't leaking it's probably best to just give it a thorough clean. They are an interference fit, the same principle as the valve guides. So if it needed replacing I'd take it to a machine shop and get them to carefully remove the old pipe. VW don't list this as a separate part of the cylinder head so you could work out the correct diameter of pipe needed for the interference fit, cut a section of this pipe, and then put a slight flare on the end so the hose has an edge to seal against. You could then fit pipe into the cylinder head using a wooden mallet or similair (I would probably use some loctite when fitting this)
