  1. i unexpectingly found today that the automatic gearbox oil cooler is clogged up with half a ton of stuff ( possably radweld from previous owner.) Unfortunatly it is a sealed unit how do i go about removing the clooged up stuff as it isnt rockhard its almost like wet sand . here is a pic of the cooler
  2. sounds worth it then to do the job properly. so just to be clear : replace all timing parts , put the timing chain covers back on with new piston tensioner but rocker cover off, then turn 2 times clockwise untill the camshaft pulley lines up with the mark on the engine block ?
  3. im doing this aswell and just wondered if you need to replace this at the same time as all the chains guides and tensioners ?
  4. lol i dont intend on getting it wrong but ive heard it does from time to time cheers ill have a good read of it and is it necessary to replace the upper tensioner bolt ?
  5. right, im planning on taking the car in over the winter so i can take the automatic gearbox out and give it a good once over because it need a few new gaskets and i need to check the sensors.At the same time ive decided to do the dreaded timming chains and tensioners. Any tips on removing the gearbox and doing the timming chains would be lots of help plus are there any other parts ill need for this ? thanks

  8. hi i have just plain power steering fluid in at the moment because i cant seem to find g000200 power steering fluid can anyone post us a link ? thanks
  9. i found it and twisted it clockwise half a turn and it seems to be better but not 100% . how do you adjust it properly because i was only guessing ? as in what does turning it anti clockwise and clockwise do and by how much ? cheers
  10. its 1994 and its the one with a dipstick . it seems fine but i have to make sure that the level is right because there is a small atf leak between the transmission and engine. it was previously stuck in the limp mode due to an electrical lead being corroded and snapped but i fixed that with brand new part and it seems fine apart for this problem

  12. im quite sure now that it is to do with the kickdown as it only happens when the kickdown is engaged
  13. no because it gets into all of the gears normally. its only when im going along and plant my foot down that the kickdown engages and goes down a gear , it revs untill it goes as fast as it can in that gear, then it wont change back up but . thanks for suggestion though
  14. when i press down on the accelerator the kickdown kicks in and works but wont change back up to gear 4 , i have really tested it and its reving past 4000 rpm without changing. how can i fix this , is it an adjustment ? thanks
  15. not on the part that came off the car but i managed to find it , cost £120 ! anyway it fixed the problem perfectly

  17. it has just done a bit over 62500 , im going to take it out in a bit for another test the only problem is that it only started doing this when it had been running for roughly an hour or so ... worse comes to worse i will take the sump off and inspect the plastic solenoid clips because when i changed the wiring harness some off the plastic clips that the wiring harness plugs into had started to split slightly
  18. hi just a bit of a pain , i fixed the automatic gearbox and so far its been spot on just like it was when i got the car but its started to sometimes get stuck in one gear and i really need some help! its had new filter and new oil
  19. i was going to have a go at this how hard is it to get a good finish ? and what do i need to do it ? also what is the part to the left hand side of the engine that the fuel lines go past ,

  21. hi i just wandered if the noise coming from the engine bay was more likely to be the tappets wanting to be adjusted or the timing chain ? if so whats the tappet settings and what sequence do you tighten them in. thanks for any help.
  22. hi any tips, today i noticed coolant leaking from the breather bit of the reservoir. i took a look at the the reservoir cap and it looks very deteriorated , but when i tryed to find one it came up with different caps. which one do i need ? its a 1994 Golf VR6 (OBD1)
