  1. Mines booked in at the Phirm for this next year.

gearbox mount needs to be cut from the subframe and moved back 1/2 inch to clear drive shafts, good pics here  but only first couple of pages relevant - https://www.diyauto.com/manufacturers/volkswagen/generations/corrado/diys/consolidation-of-information-haldex-into-corrado-02m-syncro-by-jamess-1

    custom gearbox mount - https://www.epytec.de/de/motor-getriebe-halter/vw-weitere/6221/6-gang-getriebehalter-02m-fuer-golf-passat-corrado-g60-16v-vr6-getriebe-halter-dxw-dqb?c=41

    custom driveshafts

possibly a polo gear shift box

    24v thermostat housing

    24v starter motor

    clutch and flywheel

oh and a good gearbox,  HotGolf from the GTi forum is rebuilding a DRP (alleged strongest 02m) box for me and also going to remove some of the issues with the 02m.

    which are -

hollow input shaft which can flex causing gears not to mesh - fix is weld shaft inside to create solid shaft

weak selector forks - VW upgraded them, so get latest revision or at least remove the rivet and weld a bolt instead.

plastic sliders wear out  - upgrade to bronze

4th gear shaft moves - 4th gear support, stops issues with gears not meshing under high torque

    case splitting - custom supports

most of this is available online, Darkside do most of them and gives a small explanation why. top 6 items here (http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/gearbox-parts/) i am in no way affiliated with the site ;-)

    good luck

  2. Hi all, looking for input so I don't destroy my new gearbox.

as a few of you know I have a 4x4 syncro turbo corrado which has eaten a quaife 6 speed box, I bought a 'low' mileage box from Germany that ended up needing a total rebuild including new diff gears. I have had the gears and shafts shot peened and super finished for strength (report to come)

anyway I have been reading about the torque eating 3rd and some have suggested that hitting full boost a bit later (+4500rpm) can help prolong the life of a gearbox, especially 3rd. Can anyone shed some light on the subject? I have attached my last RR result. This was with the quaife, the new box is a  5 speed vr6 syncro box, not sure if that makes a difference?

the box only needs to last a year till I go haldex.

    cheers

    steve

  3. Here is Marts pricing for a 02m, he has done 2 flywheels for me now and is a legend on clubgti

Labour starts at £175(diff fitting)  upto £295 for a full rebuild. Bearing replacement and preloading is a nightmare on these boxes as it's fully enclosed with blindhole bearings. I've done quite a few and so far have got away without replacing a lot of bearings.

    On top of this:
synchro rings average out at £30 each
Bearings vary from £20 up, a full kit being £300!
    Needle bearings £75
    Seal kits are £20
    Fork modifiaction £40pr or
upgrade forks are around £65 each for the 1-2ndand 3rd-4th
    Modified 5th-6th £25
Modified solid input shaft insert £90
Darkisde Input shaft support and fitting £175
    Darkside bronze slippers £20 a set(requires 2 sets)

I like to mess with all the essential bits lol.

Did I mention I'm going to wire it all up and map it myself? Lol.

Why pay someone else to have all the fun.?

Ultimate respect if you do. I work in IT and am not a numpty but 3D fuelling and timing maps was like a dark art, I happily played but until a pro did it with more sensors than you can shake a stick at (EGT, knock sensors, pre and post lambda) a 4x4 rolling road and quiet a few years experience did it run properly. You have spent a lot of time and money getting the mechanicals perfect, but it will be  ruined if you run too lean on full boost for a second or 2!

Yours is a beast on paper, even a base tune by someone who knows what they are doing would work wonders.

What are you doing about wideband? My emerald has a self tuning option but I would not trust it to fuel correctly on full boost, ever!

if you read up on tuning a lot say you can run lean at cruising speeds, 14.7 stoich even 15.1-2 I asked my bloke and he laughed, it really is down to setup but even an initial pro setup imho is worth the money

  5. I sold my VR for 900 quid, that was after cams, chains, exhaust, leather interior, 3.68 FD and diesel 5th plus loads more, counting back best part of 5k over 6-7 years. The thing about S/C is you can run 10 psi with no mods and if/when you want to sell you get the S/C money back and standard VR cost. imho it's the best bang for buck. If you want to embarrass M3 and scooby mugs then it's turbo only way to go, but it's not easy to return to standard for the long term option. I can speak from experience that you will never recoup the money you spend! You can only try and claw some back when you sell.

i took the quick option and bought an ex mag featured Corrado, built for an ex donor card holder (biker) running 490bhp, when I got it it was detuned to 310 (Rolling roaded on the 310 map it was 260!) I told the tuner I wasn't  happy running more than 350 with the syncro drivetrain so he did me a 3 way switchable map, 260-280 and 340. I had it 3 months and destroyed the 6 speed box fitted (quaife gear set £3k to buy!) I am now going haldex (next year) to run rude power I'm looking for 450,550 and 650 on the maps this means changing to haldex 02m box, prop and rear diff and obviously more money!

If you look at the previous RR days a standard VR is out pulled by a 1.6 turbo fiesta ST, WTF! An SC will make it competitive but not a giant killer! sell the 2.8 lump drop an r32 in and charge that! Or R36! Otherwise keep it standard, accept that 18 yr old fiesta drivers on their mums insurance will slaughter you in the traffic light olympics and just enjoy the sound and a quiet missus.

    Yeh it's a DRP.

Sounds like your on the right track, what sort of power are you aiming for?

I'm going to have a go at building it myself so wish me luck lol.

Never herd of them LSD's what sort of power do people put through them? I think I'm going to be sticking with the tried and tested Pelequins or Quafe, I know people putting over 1200bhp through them for years without issue.

Hi not huge power, was running standalone with 3 maps currently 260-280-340, the 340 destroyed a quaife 6 speed box! When it's haldex'd I'm looking for 450,550 and 650, Scirroco.com is the best for peloquin as he has direct contact with Gary (mr peloquin) the ricer boys and BM (BuM lovers?) really rate the m factory stuff and they are trying to break the VW market. http://www.grinspeed.co.uk/product-category/volkswagen/ seem to be the UK distributors and I believe the prices quoted are inc of vat as when you go to cart all they add is 9.99 postage, if that's right then it's 100 quid for bolt kit and away you go.

After speaking to Mart, the 02m is an arse to work on, blind bearings etc? No idea what they are but if a pro has issues with them.... Also the bearing rebuild kit is £300, would you want to fuck about with an essential bit of kit?

ive had to buy a 02C from Germany to get me by (£500) till next year, but I am still going to have diff bolts changed and also 2nd,3rd and 4th shot peened for strength. This makes the temp box well over a grand and possibly overkill but after speaking to Tim at the phirm he said straight swap and run low boost (never going to happen!) so I want the best of what I have. I am now used to the idea of money no object on these bloody cars! But it's great when a cayenne driver won't look at you after slaughtering him on a straight. Really interested in how your going to go, so please keep posting!

  7. I have 2 pumps but don't know what they are! Problem when you get someone else's project! I have a custom fuel cell and allegedly a Motorsport pump in it and another one pulling fuel to an external swirl pot.

all I can say is that when the external one kicks in that's all I can hear, start up is great as you can hear the priming before as key turn bit don't expect to hear any music until your rolling!

I would suggest measuring what the turbo requirements an comparing it to your current fuel pressure reg standard odb2 is 3 bar and I believe that some odb1 run a 4 bar one

let us know how you get on

Thanks a lot for those fantastic info!!!!

So the limit is gearbox and clutch..

So the safe mode is to run 350hp

I ask you some other info:

    Which head spacer?what compression ratio??

    Which head gasket?

Is ok gt3882r for 350hp or is it too much bigger? Or gt3076 is the best way to get 350hp?

Don't take these figures for granted, not every box is equal! I ripped through a 6 speed quaife gearset only running 340! Speaking to quaife they only rate the kits to take standard power! So 174? Whatever you do it will only find the next part in the chain to break. S/C don't cause as much of an issue as they only hit maximum boost at the top end of rev range, turbos cut in fully earlier and cause extra strain on the gearbox. Personally I would not run more than 300 through a standard box and expect reliability. I am getting my replacement box till I go haldex and I am getting the diff bolts done as minimum also shot peening 2nd,3rd and 4th as I have 3 boost levels 260-280 and 340. The 02A has issues with turbo and 3rd stripping, I am only going to use the box till next year when I go haldex but better safe than sorry!

let me know how you go.

    good luck

Gt3582r Is a good turbo your application and my number 1 choice if it's in your budget. Garretts T61 is also a good option if your on a budget and can't afford ball bearing.

I have ran GT35 from 7psi making 298bhp all the way to 26psi running 576bhp. Trust me when you get the turbo bug you will be happy you picked a turbo with plenty of head room because addictive does not even cover it.

Another area not to skimp is Wastegate. That is the only component between requested boost and unlimited (well to a point but you get what I mean).

You can never have enough of BOOST!
