Russvrt reacted to RBPE in standard condrods
Bent rods are not really anything to do with boost pressure or flow, it's about the tune mainly. If you have spot on flame propagation, timing and fuelling etc on a 2bar blueprinted engine, there will be a lot less shearing and twisting forces in play during the cycle than a 1 bar set-up with some knocking due to an incorrect burn cycle! It's why a set of ARP rod bolts and a good tune can reach high power goals - 700hp+.
Piston rings go but again, not really to do with power or boost. If someone drives the engine cold a lot, it could wear the bore out of the cylinder more than someone that mollycoddles the engine. As such, gas bypassing the rings is more likely - same with a 120,000 mile engine than a 1k freshly blueprinted one.
I would personally just add a spacer plate and maybe some ARP head studs and rod bolts which ensures a better, more even clamping load for the spacer and higher tensile strength in critically stressed areas - but I would buy a second engine and build that up properly for when you go higher boost, few hundred quid for the engine maybe but a proper build for longevity would have to include, bore checking, aligning, honing, magnafluxing/crack testing etc then you've got crank girdles, billet main caps, big valve head and can soon add thousands.Just sticking new rods and pistons in, even forged, seems a bit pointless without doing the basics in engine building!

Machined myself a 3" v-band flange and machined the exhaust housing so it locates.

Russvrt reacted to gaz205t in 94 boosted Rado
Ok so thought I might as well start writing my build thread for the Rado. I know a boosted VR6 engine isn't anything new or special these days so not sure how much interest this will generate. May as well share my experience.
First thing I wanted to do was get the Rado tested, just so there wasn't any hassle of getting the car through the test after the conversion. Plus means it's legal to go out and map it when I'm at that stage. She passedwith a advisory on a foosty clutch pipe. So we're good to go.
Not really got much done. Time isn't on my side with work, a house and a seven month old. My plan is to change the valve stem seals when head is of to put on de-comp plate and change shells at same time. Just the cam sprockets to take off and head bolts to undo then whip her off.

Russvrt reacted to War-Ready-VR in New York VRT
What's up, G60 Vrt owner from NY saying hello!!! Originally came from the Bmw side of things but I've had a Mk4 gti 1.8, Jetta 2.5, and now the Corrado G60 which like most owners probably fell in love with it a while back, had to get it, followed by obsession! Just finished the VR6 swap with a big smexy Holset pro52 turbo and doing some 02j bits currently (polo-02j tower).
Will be posting pics soon and hope to make some cool friends and get new knowledge---Not too proud to ask ..
Cheers

I should have really made some videos tonight coz boy I haven't had this much fun in ages. Got the car back from the garage next door to me as they were fitting the brakes. I've got the TT wheels put on now wrapped in a fresh set of Yokohama Parada Spec 2 tyres. Got home and finished off the last couple of bits I had left on the wotbox. So now I have launch control .
Took it out for a little test and had it set at 3500 rpm. Felt good launching it but the wheels just spun and I didn't gain any traction in first gear so I might try and launch it around 3000 rpm next time. The other absolutely amazing thing is the ability to "no lift shift" as they call it. So you can basically change gear without having to let go of the throttle allowing you to continue boosting. You have got to be in the car to feel how good it is I will try and get some videos up in the next couple of days.
Next step is to get the methanol injection fitted.

Russvrt got a reaction from daveyboy in Thinking of these wheels
Little modern looking for a rado IMO ..for the cost of new wheels you could probably pick up a set of splits secondhand, just an option?
