  1. Fit a schrick manifold. Im running schrick 268's in mine with no map. The additional air is metered via the MAF which sorts out the fuelling. If youre planning on sticking a schrick manifold on it then the combination of the two plus the other supporting mods such as filter, 6 branch decat back system etc would be helped by a map adjustment. But personally i can think of better ways of spending £500 on the car for a negligible gain.
  2. You know you can 're- jig' the pins in the current lock to suit your keys. It saves having a key for ignition, each door handle & the tailgate. Im not sure if theres a how to lurking about but one of the guys down at my local VW breakers is a bit of a mk3 whizz and he can jig the barrels to suit the key.
  3. sounds pricey to me - you could pick up a a jalopy VR for £400 get the bits you need and break the rest.

I wouldn't touch UM with a shitty stick- my friend bought a 'learning' chip for his VR with cams and schrick- dyno proven loss after fitting it In between runs. Poor service- got told it must be his engine 'tough' so he put the stock ecu back on and threw money down the drain. After a snooty reply like that reads to me 'were too big to sponsor your forum but well take your money happily'.... I'd be going to Vince.
  5. i would definatley avoid taking out a 2.9 to put a 2.8 in. i couldnt warrant taking one out and not putting a 24V in. have it vagcommed and rolling roaded before you do anything i know people with pretty standard obd1's that run 190ish bhp and my obd2 only made 174 - no faults on vagcom serviced about a month before. at the end of the day why swap a running 15+ year old block for a mystery obd2 15+year old block? and if the 2.9s are no good how come the demand for them is huge? go figure.
  6. i ran gas on my old vr and plan to put it on my next one once all the other stuff is out of the way. i ran a wizards wet system using 75 hp jets and a minimax controller, it completely changed the car and the torque is through the roof as i run a schrick VGi so the effect is similar to direct port as a schrick uses equal length runners. id favour a wet system as you can tweak your jets and lean it out to suit but if your going more than 50 jets then you should get some colder plugs to get a better burn. as for performane, everyday use its absolutley savage. even on the 50 jets you can school
  7. shift light sorts that prob out!! where'dya get the chip and how much was it? B.
  8. there for my summer wheels so hopefully they wont be getting too much wet driving - tempting fate now!- just ordered the 4 paradas off ebay - £230 gonna try and get some cheapo TT comps and satin black them for winters! B.
  9. just wondering which you guys prefer? ive ran toyo's in the past and quite liked them but found them rather soft - hence why i was considering the parada's but dont know anyone that runs them. oh there goin on a set of RH ZW1's 8x17 so im getting 205/40/17's too. B.
  10. im pretty sure your not gonna tuck 9's! you could always buy some smaller dishes from somewhere like justmatz and run 8's all round with no probs?
  11. typical! ive had it all hidden away in the scuttle panel!! cheers for the help again dude - gagging to get it sorted as were off to MIVW and the ring in under a month. cheers again B.
  12. cheers for the post ollie, ive not had the car vag commed recently but never had a prob before the schrick ive checked that its switching but the point seems a little high i think ~4.5k thanks for putting them dyno's up as the bottom one looks like whats going on with mine, big fall off after a peak! cheers guys B.
  13. dunno about 1st and 2nd but magic 3rd hits the limiter at 105, hit 150 in 5th and was still revving up but felt ' a little unstable' to say the least! ians right though only GPS verified counts. the sweet spot for me is 5k in 2nd shift to 3rd and have your eyelids peeled back!
  14. confirmed today.... 8mm multi fit socket. B.
  15. i was gonna post the same Q. and ive done a little research and i ''think'' its an 8mm multi point socket, cant go and check as theyre not at my house!! And how can you use an allen key to undo a bolt that needs a socket to undo....? B.
  16. haha beat me to it.. do you need any other gaskets bar the inlet gasket to the block??? also did you have any clearance issues with the 10.8mm leads craggsy? cant wait to get it on, had it done in satin black B.
  17. as the title suggests really, im struggling to find a set of braided hoses to fit my brembo boxter s rears im gonna run them with 312's on the front. so just needed a pointer on how to find a set / what to ask for to get them made up. just got them back from the painters with my schrick so theyre coded so im gaggin to get them on too! cheers B.
  18. G-werks in the uk do schrick bits - i just got a vacuum pump for £24 + P&P. have a look on edition 38 they have a shop section on there.
  19. mk4 rears are the best option for upgrades / reliability. ill be doing them at some point when the weather warms up and my porka's are on the front!
  20. not unless your gonna powdercoat the front end! i doubt youll just get the casing off.
  21. just another thing, does the schrick need an extra pump for the vacuum flap? ive only got the ecu controller and the manifold, do i need anything else? cheers B
  22. my mate at vw swears by the rado box on all his vr's i always thought they are different, my mate has one in his mk2vr and the ratios are much longer in my golf. im thinking of doing the transmission at the same time as chains / overhaul, but thats when the clutch gives up the ghost!
  23. not got the hoses yet as im not quite sure which i need - not had chance to have a look yet RAP ste, ive got a mate whos a vw tech at basford so he does bits and bobs for me theres quite a few people that i can think of though C+R in radford being the best but you pay good money for it. graham pete in stapleford, nathan there is into dubs he could hook you up. even big city by vic centre they do the full 'post mot' exhaust systems too one thing though make sure you get it wrapped cos they get HOT! anyone got a schrick pdf by the way? B.
  24. right ive just bought a few tuner bits to add to my collection and was after some pointers / some ideas thrown in the mix. im currently running a BMC CDA and a jetex cat back system but to add to this ive bought a schrick VGI mani, a raceland 6 branch and a de-cat. before i get them on im just wondering what is worth doin when it goes in the garage - new leads / plugs? heat wrap the 6 branch? anything else - can you still get them doughty racing cams fr cheap anywhere?? ive also got some porka 4 pots going onto drilled n grooved 312's and a progressive NOS controller kit coming too! so im gonn
