  1. What's the most suitable smiley for running round angry and kicking things in rage? We didn't exchange today, that's 2 days waiting for one of the solicitors to fax a single piece of paper to another solicitor. Starting to get nervous now, I have BT and Sky booked and the moving company and a day off work and I still don't know if it's happening or not! Grrr! Tick tock, tick tock...
  2. The GTi International show 17th/18th June at Bruntingthorpe test track. We're having a stand/display there. Looking forward to it, not been to a show before.
  3. Finally after months of getting messed around and much personal expense, we are supposed to be moving on Thursday! Contracts are due to exchange today so I'm keeping everything crossed. I get a driveway when we move so I'll finally be able to get and keep my VR buffed up before GTi International next month. Of course, I'll have a million house jobs on the list too, but you've got to have priorities right? Tense? I'm not tense.. :S 8-) |-) *-) :^) :-*
  4. For wireless best make that WEP2 or WEP Plus or 128bit WEP (or a more secure protocol alltogether) if you have the option (which you should on new equipment) as standard WEP is considered unsecure since it was cracked a couple of years ago. If you're not on wireless but are using a standard USB type "modem" thing they send you, strongly consider using it to prop a door open with and get yourself a nice hardware firewall/router, they are very cheap these days.
  5. That's not even as good as it gets either! 2Mb gives a maximum download speed of approx 240kb/s! No doubt wherever you were downloading from was the limit in this case.
  6. I got kits for myself and my wife from www.britewhite.com (in the US)a few years ago. At the time you couldn't get professional kits in the UK at reasonable prices but now you can. I've been very pleased with mine, I just use it occasionally so mine don't glow in the dark. You can go all the way white if you want but I just wanted a natural white look. Leaves your teeth a bit sensitive (varies on person) and it's worse depending on the strength of bleach you go for. 17% is a milder dentist strengh, 22% is the stronger one. You get a kit with 2 mouth trays and 3 sets of 2 part putty. Knead p
  7. Damn, accidentally volunteered for something AGAIN! Must stop doing that.
  8. lol, I don't do football! I currently have a partially dislocated right shoulder (doc's next week for resetting) so tug-o-war is probably not a great idea either. I will bring a camera though.
  9. I'd agree. Sounds like a lack of oil to the top end of the engine.
  10. Sods... I had my crystal indicators and fogs stolen a couple of months ago now - I was livid for about a fortnight. Replaced with tea-leaf unfriendly standard units. lol now I'm angry all over again.
  11. I like them all! Had a mk1 Gti, a mk2 driver and almost bought a mk4 4motion but decided I liked the drive of the mk3 better due to less weight and an old fashioned throttle cable.
  12. Yes, it's a bit of a contradiction in terms. Having discovered the clay and the difference it makes, it just doesn't seem right not to clay the surface first before sealing it. Same as going the 2 step route, I will probably clay, then polish (with a pure polish) before sealing with FMJ. The is a one step product from Menzerna that is about 40% polish and 60% FMJ and provides a good low effort one step application, but for the long term I think it better expending a little more time and doing 2 step. That said, I'm not under the illusion I'm going to get my paint perfectly prepared or finis
  13. Are they just for show use? They aren't road legal in the UK. I've a friend with a polo had german style plates on and after being stopped and fined for the 4th time, decided it wasn't worth the expense for the look.
  14. £6.5k should be quite feasable, I think there's a £4k mulberry highline on here somewhere with 69,000 on it. Add in a charger and you're probably fine with that figure and around 250bhp + Mine makes 209bhp with just a Schrick, inlet filter, exhaust and remap.
  15. I'm guessing you're polishing the outside as we're in bodywork and styling. Nothing too dangerous about it, it's just a lump of soft metal. I'd get the ends sealed up before starting if I were you, but even then it can always be cleaned inside if some dust gets in. You'll probably want to clean it when it's off anyway.
  16. Topping with carnuba waxes apparently dulls the finish a bit, but adds colour depth. I'll try it just sealed first (with probably FMJ) and see if that's what I want or not. I'm not that fussy, although obviously I want it nice! I just clayed my bonnet *cough* not fussy at all..
  17. We're on a busy lane to a large park. I must have had cars keyed 20-30 times in the last 13 years. Touched in 6 scratches on my wife's car only this Sunday, granted they've been wanting doing for a while. Scumbags! Almost always after the car has been washed too, like you say.
  18. I have a rubber hammer you can borrow, you'll have to buy the Stella and administer it yourself.
  19. Thanks stockers. I intend to give it a good rub down with clay and polish before treating it. Poorboy's ex p looks well priced, and their stuff has a good reputation too. I think I'm favoring Menzerna FMJ as I've read a lot of positive things about it. Paint sealant's don't seem that popular here in the UK but from what I hear they have about half the German and US market's and growing for the average user. Still not featured so much in concours competitions but I just want to keep the evil tin worm away and have a decent shine too. I've just cleaned and waxed my car fully so that should hol
  20. I think I'm flying in the face of public opinion by saying I actually like plastic arches. Obviously I must be a bit %-6 Weirdly I actually have a late highline without them. I've considered some for my car, but I think I'd have to smooth and paint them for personal preference. I might even be interested in yours if you want to PM me. Money is a bit tight at the moment though due to an impending on/off/on/off house move that's draining cash faster than a VR on full chat can drink petrol. !amazed
  21. Washing and waxing my car on the road we live on always risking life and limb, but yesterday I took some time to get a good layer of wax on my VR. Unfortunately I found a few bits of rust around the arches so this waxing is just to hold it until we move house and I'll have a driveway (and garage!) where I can tackle the tin worm more effectively. It's pretty much all surface rust that's been done before, and painted over, but not done well. I found a 10p sized patch on the door (same thing, painted and mint when I bought it..) a couple of weeks ago and ground it down to bare metal and took
