Problems with Milltek exhaust fit and booming
matth76 replied to stuey's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I think Milltek should have given you a completely new exhaust system instead of cutting up bits here and there. Their mistake/ their faulty product... therefore they should replace it completely!! Sounds like you got a "dud" as they say which does occasionally happen. Although Stealth should be the ones liaising with Milltek to get a completely new replacement on your behalf as you are the end customer and they are the 'vendor'. Hopefully it is all sorted though. Could always try and sell it on Ebay as a brand new exhaust !lol Hope it works out mate. By the way does your Milltek tailpi -
Is his car 4 wheel drive? Surely a front wheel drive couldn't go round bends with that kind of power? I'm assuming he has the rare(ish) syncro version which is 4 wheel drive or has had a conversion done? Althgouh the advantage with the front wheel drive versions is that they are 1-200kgs lighter than the cars with 4 wheel drivetrains.

What exhaust are you running to be given an asbo !? Blo*dy neighbours.

The coilpack is a weak spot on the golf VR6 odb2's. I would bet it's that. Or the alternator as mentioned above.

It looks an excellent site. Although I havent used as unfortunately it doesn't allow you to just download and play the avi files - it needs you to install software called "utorrent" and open up some ports on your pc making it vulnerable to attacks... is there any other way to run the files... like simply using Real Player or the better quality Windows Media Player?

I've used it once. Didn't realise it was under 89p a litre though! Optimax is just under 95p (although it was 99.9 a couple of weeks ago! I went to the Tesco garage in Crawley west sussex (just after I bought my car actually) and filled up on the 99ron stuff. My car did run smoother but no different to using Optimax. I would continue using it if it was closer but will continue to stick with Optimax at the mo. It's higher ron rating at 98 than BP and all the others. Optmax certainly makes the car feel far far smoother than the standard 95ron... plus many tuners who have done rebuilds on

So it's a complete ecu and fully remappable? Also is my Milltek exhaust big enough at 2.25"? I'd really be looking at high torque and good acceleration as opposed to high bhp and top end power. If my exhaust is slightly too small is it possible just to replace the downpipe with a 2.5" bore... my question is whether it would mate up with / be compatible with the high flow cat and also the Milltek backbox (which are both designed for the 2.25" system).

Is an "Eprom" an ECU or chip? If it is a chip is it a unichip/piggyback style chip, i.e allowing the standard ECU to be remapped? Thanks for your replies. What chargers do you both have fitted? Who did your remap and fitting?

Thanks guys for your responses. Can anyone answer the question about pistons - if a thicker head gasket is fitted can new uprated pistons and conrods easily be added when this is done or does it require much much more work? Also, a very big question: what does the Golf VR6 actually feel like with 280bhp? Who has had it done and can tell? Does the whole car vibrate or is it really smooth... and does the car feel powerful at 2500 revs, or do you have to take it over the usual 3.5k revs to really feel the power? I have a Milltek free flowing exhaust and milltek high flow cat... are both of

Is there a download of the old top gear episode that featured the Golf VR6 on there or another site similar to this? I know it's suspension wasn't rated very good but I'd love to see it all the same. Or are there any old Jeremy C. videos that feature it? Cheers for any help. I tried the site search but it didn't turn out any results.

Looks like I won't be contacting Ultimate Tune then Thanks for the info. Are there any other UK suppliers or fitters of C2 chargers? What kind of price will Stealth be charging to fit a charger and remap ? At least they are someone we can trust.

What recent thread is this? Is Ultimate-tune no longer a supplier of their goods?

Hi I read somewhere on here that the stage 1 C2 supercharger (which is a Vortech 1 charger) offered by Ultimate-Tune.com includes higher flow injectors and new ECU. However I can't see this on the website for the stage 1. The stage 2 C2 supercharger kit includes the higher flow injectors and new Eprom ECU. Is the stage 1 just the charger or does it include anything else? The stage 2 also includes a metal head gasket - although does anyone know if the prices quoted for both stages are fully fitted - or just the parts? Stage 1 is

I think the sales of goods act says you can claim a refund or replacement if goods / services provided are not up to a "reasonable" standard and are not of a "satisfactory quality" - I believe the time limit to claim is 6 years...my memory is a bit fuzzy on the details. I would say you have some kind of case here IF you can get another local garage to prove (if possible) there is nothing wrong with your car (that may be the difficult bit)- however if it's only the head gasket that has failed then that would lead to the possibility it was not fitted correctly as they should not fail so soon.

I'm personally never taking my VR back to Caffyns. Very bad experience. I recently found out following one of their 'full' services each one of my spark plugs was loose ..each one. I took it to The Phirm (a VR6 specialist) who were excellent and diagnosed and fixed the problem in no time ...all for free. Prior to that I was suffering lots of juddering etc. Caffyns use young lads and let them loose on your car in order to train them...as opposed to experienced mechanics... like those at a VR specialist. My advice... take it to a local specialist asap. You can have a new engine fittted fo

More vibration in fourth gear than any other gear...
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
It only happens in fourth - just a mild vibration in the actual gearstick throughout the rev range - checked all other gears in all the rev range which are all fine. To be honest it's only a minor niggle. Just curious why fourth gear may vibrate more than other gears. -
Hi When I put my hand on the gear stick when I'm in fourth I can feel much more vibration than in any of the other gears. Is this common - what could cause this? The car is fine driving in fourth but not quite as smooth as the other gears. Today when the engine was warm I revved the engine in neutral to about 3k revs very briefly and the whole car seemed to vibrate a lot when sitting inside the car, compared to normal driving. Is this normal and because the car is not in gear?

Hi Were cloth Recaro seats ever an option in the Golf VR6? I know there were leather recaro seats available. However my car is cloth all round so it would look out of place having only leather front seats - plus they cost a fortune. Therefore I'm after cloth recaros - which would be specifically for the golf vr6 to match my back seats. If I can make my front seats look more sporty that would be great, with extra back support and shoulder boulsters. Are there any places that either sell them second hand or at reasonable prices? Thanks for any info.
