I've got a high flow cat and cat back Milltek. I was told my ECU should learn the new air/fuel settings I recently had the timing chain and head gasket also done plus had my throttle body re-aligned and new lamda sensor put in. I suspect something isn't quite right (hopefully it's not the cam timing as I suspect that would be a big lengthy job to rectify?). Could it be a 'compression' issue with the new head gasket? Is a compression test easy for a garage to do? I'm going to try and book my car in with Stealth when they open in the new year to diagnose the problem. My car seems down on p

Cool. How much did you pay? And what mileage / history did it come with?

Yes just like that. The browser I'm on at the mo is IE5. Cheers Matt

Hi I really like the new look of the website. Nice and simplistic and easy to use which I always like. Not sure if you wanted any comments but hope this is helpful - not sure if anyone else has noticed the same thing - occasionally when I reply to a message or view a message thread the actual messages appear all the way at the bottom of the page. The right column always appears on the right of the screen at the top of the page which is correct but there is a blank space in the left area where the messages would normally be, but the messages appear once the right column has finished further d

Smoke and lumpy/uneven running
matth76 replied to Dr.Chinnery's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
If the valve guides or stem seals were on their way out (which you can't tell unless the head is taken apart) then you may get smoke coming out. Although it does sound like the head gasket in your case as the smoke was white. Have a look half way down the engine block on the driver side and there should be a thin line going right across horizontally. That is the edge of the head gasket. See if there is any damp on the engine block around this level. Mine had that recently and for safety sake had my head gasket changed and low and behold it was on its way out. When the head comes off it's a -
Sorry to hear what happened mate. I would take photos and inform the police definitely. It's criminal damage. Glad your car was ok. The intent to damage it was certainly there. I hope it wasn't your brake fluid they used! If you know who did it let the police know.

Thanks for your reply. Mine certainly dives for the red line after 3000 revs. Although I am concerned about the flat spot just below 2000 revs. Seems to be around the 1800 revs area, then fine after that. Although I'm finding I have to go down a gear to get into the power band, which I didn't have to before. Anyone with a 6 branch on here?
-
I've been told that an organic clutch is a good upgrade if you want big power in the future. Not sure how much they are.

Where's Witham? Is it in the south?

Agree with above - get some good pics of the hole in the road and the damage if possible to your car (or quote from a couple of garage of the cost to fix it) and claim compensation. Definitely worth doing as quite a few people in the past have claimed and won compensation due to speed bumps damaging their car because the speed bumps were above the legal 10cms max height.

Hi Has anyone got one of these fitted? Did you notice slightly less power in the lower revs but with more power in the higher revs? I have a slight flat spot remaining around 1500-2000revs. Above 3k revs it has a huge surge of power. Just wondered if other people with this modification had noticed the same? Cheers Matt

I want 200BHP+ out of my standard vr what do i need to do?
matth76 replied to magpiegti's topic in Engine Tuning
Good question - does anyone have rr figures for before and after fitting any kind of induction kit? I'd be very interested to also know how they all compare as there's a big debate about whether heat soak is a big issue - as far as I understand it is not advisable to get an induction kit unless it has its own heat shielding such as a BMC. Un-shielded induction kits can actually reduce power due to hot air intake. What does 'de-coning' the standard air filter involve? -
Which company did your head work?

Hi Does anyone know if there are any companies in the south east area ideally close to or in Sussex that has a rolling road and ideally charges less then

clutch pedal clicking (switch noise)
matth76 replied to jezmoz's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I have a similar noise but it only happens when I go for a long journey or if I'm stopping and starting in a very long traffic jam. It could be the clutch cynlinder slave. -
Storm Developments in the south specialise in head work and Stealth Racing up in the midlands do as well. Both are very good.

Could be the thermostat that links to the fan. Best bet is to ring a VR specialist who will give very good advice over the phone and if they're local get to look over your car (much better and far cheaper than a main dealer) - needs to get sorted mate as temps in the vr engine bay can soar. If you're in the south try Storm Developments or The Phirm. If you're in the midlands best place is Stealth Racing. Quite a few others around though that are excellent.

I'd also be interested what difference in power a Corrado 2.9 inlet manifold would make... anyone? I believe there are two parts (not just the inlet manifold that need replacing - I can't remember what the second part is but Storm mentioned it the other day). And what difference would fitting a corrado throttle body make on a golf vr6? In answer to the thread - I have a 97 golf vr6, a Milltek cat back exhaust and milltek high flow cat. Puts out close to 195bhp and 183ft/lbs torque - on rr at stealth. I now have a 6 branch exhaust manifold - fitted last week actually and the extra surge in -
Ok - an update: I went back to Storm today and they were really helpful - they did another VAG COM check and found out my cam sensor was faulty. Storm put a new one in for me for free and now it drives fine. It is still very very slightly lacking in the low revs but is certainly better than it was yesterday. Would Stealth be able to check and 'fix' cam timing for just

It was a complete "head gasket and tensioner set" that they did which included all tensioners and all timing chains - everything. I will be speaking to the garage tomorrow and also the Phirm as they know my car pretty well. I was wondering if anyone had experienced a similar flat spot and knew what caused it or how it was resolved. Thanks for any help.
