Well i'm now selling my beautiful dragon green 3dr thats in mint condition with only 97.5k on the clock (slip in a ad) basically because i've bought a porsche. Someone is coming to look at the VR tonight and i think that one look at it and it'll sell, as i'm only asking 2750 for it, its just had new catback jetex and whole new suspension, new tyres, camber and alignment done, new MOT and 6 months tax. Bargain. Although i've now got a porsche i will really miss my VR, she has never let me down in three years and starts first time every time, i think that the mk 3 VR has got to be one of the g

whats peoples fuel consumption like?
dstyrrell replied to Russ_vr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
i've had 34 on the way back from london and i wasnt hanging about, i think that VR's are best on long journeys. -
looks exactly the same as mine, so i actually love it !!!

Give me a shout if you find you coil pack is cracked VR MOFO, i'll tell you exactly how i did it and what i used. Dave

Well my VR has felt like a under powered peice of junk for a while so i figured the only thing to do in these circumstances was to pull it apart and investigate!!! And i found a rusty looking cracked sorry excuse for a coilpack that had been zapping my power and enjoyment. Being a tight bastard i thought i'm not buying a new one so i cleaned it up and plastered it back together and coated it in epoxy plastiweld, (awesome stuff i got a real buzz off it), let it dry over night and slapped the bad boy back on the VR. anyway the result was amazing all my lost power had returned and it drives so s

Hi, I think that this head unit was the standard one when the VR was new, i'm putting a sub in and its all wired and powering fine, power lights on ect.... but no sound. It seems to me that there is no signal coming from the aux outputs on the head unit. does anyone know anything about this model as its doing my head in, i'm wondering if the aux out is not permanantly active and i need to activate it somehow. any advice would be most appriciated as i'm close to ripping it out and stamping on it!! Oh i've had a sub running off it before but took it out as i was gonna sell the car but as i've

looks the same as mine too. If that is a balancing weight on that rear wheel, shoot whoever put it there!!! I cant believe some garages that hamme those onto peoples nice alloys !!! Looks good though mate!

did you find out what the juddering was Mulberryman ?? i haven't had time to investigate mine, i think that it might be missing slightly could need new leads and i've notice a crack in the coilpack. more expense. Dave

Ok, but at the end of the day 4wd will give better traction than a fwd car regardless of whether it has got traction control or not. i own a VR and i love it so i'm not slagging them off, i'm just saying that there is a limit to how much power you can efficiently put through a fwd car, and if you have to have a device to stop power(traction control) then effectively its got too much power for the chassis dynamics and traction caperbility of that particular vehicle. As they regularly say "Getting loads of power out of a engine is the easy bit, putting it down is a whole different ball game."

911 Turbos are 4wd. plenty of 911s are rwd Yes they are but 911 turbos are 4wd! lol.
-
correct, but if you do the guides you may aswell change the chains. hence why people say they are getting there 'chains' done.
-
The main dealers say that because VW themselves say that they will last the life of the engine so they can't really say otherwise. Most people change them as a precautionary measure. Dave

Last polish before re-spray, my black VR6

nice car by the way, its nice to see some other standard looking VR's on here, i think that in a few years mint standard looking ones are gonna be pretty rare, when i say standard i mean wheels, obviously they need to be lowered and have a nice exhaust. lol. -
ummmmmmmmmm 320bhp, its all about throttle control.... Does this mean you cant put your foot down because theres too much power for a fwd car.?? If so i think that clarifies my point. When the VXR astra with 250bhp was released and reviewed on top gear they said that top engineers said that 250bhp is the maximum power for a fwd car, other than that its unuseable and they even said the Astra was overpowered. My point is that its not difficult to get alot of power out of an engine, the difficult and clever part is putting it on the ground. This is why cars like 911 turbos cost so much money. Da

Most mods are a waste of money, get a supercharger and have it mapped at the same time and be done with it, this will give you around 40% more power and will keep your car reliable, anymore power than that is a waste of time anyway as you'll never put it down without 4wd and traction control. Larger throttle bodies, larger intake manifolds without forced induction will lose you bottom end, which personally i wouldn't want to do, read the 'manifold trickery thread'. Spend the rest of your money detailing and suspension, uprated clutch and get your chains done. Just my thoughts anyway, good luck

how much is it gonna cost for your respray mate? just out of interest? -
I 've got exactly the same problem mate, mine made large banging noise on acceleration so i investigated and the gearbox mount had completley gone, a rolled up sock would have been better, anyway changed the gearbox mount and it made a hell of a difference but i'm still getting juddering, the engine no longer is moving about but i'm wondering if the two old mounts have loss there shock absorbsion, i think that i'm gonna change them aswell. The only other thing that i'm thinking is that the exhaust might be blowing a bit causing it too judder, maybe the engine movement has caused a fracture??

doesn't need a respray, just needs the rust sortin and a full detail. spend your money on suspension and charger mate. -
Well the climatronic was flashing and had faults as mentioned above, so decided there was only one thing for it i had to pull it apart and have a fiddle, anyway pulled all the dash off pulled a few wires about and then put it back together again and to my surprise it works now perfectly!!!! No more flashing, heats and cools perfectly!! If in doubt pull it about !!!
-
Hi guys i wonder if anyone can help me, my climatronic has been flashing recently so i knew there was a fault, stuck it on a diagnostic machine yeaterday and it came up with these faults Temp regulator flap motor -v68 01271 Airflow flap motor -v71 01274 I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with these, and can offer me any advice. Not sure where they are located, so just thought i'd ask before i start pulling the dash apart. I checked with my mate and the new parts are quite expensive so i'm hoping that theres just a loose connection or they are jammed or something. Fingers cross

dstyrrell replied to stuart colgan's topic in Engine Tuning
Just get yourself a K&N panel filter for your original air box, its about £80 and does the job aswell as any of the others. Dave -
